The immobilizer system installed in the Kia EV6 is designed to help protect the vehicle from theft and unauthorized operation. If an incorrectly coded key or unauthorized device is used, the vehicle’s starting system will be disabled.
When the EV button is pressed to the POWER ON or DRIVE READY position, the immobilizer system indicator should illuminate briefly and then turn off. If the indicator continues blinking, the Kia EV6 has not recognized the coding information stored in the smart key.
If this occurs, press the EV button again to return the Kia EV6 to the POWER ON or DRIVE READY state and attempt the procedure once more.
Under certain conditions, the Kia EV6 may fail to recognize the smart key signal if another smart key device, wireless transmitter, or metal object such as a smartphone is located too close to the key.
If signal interference occurs, move additional smart keys, electronic devices, or metallic objects away from the Kia EV6 smart key before attempting to start the vehicle again.
If the immobilizer system repeatedly fails to recognize the smart key coding, contact an authorized Kia dealer for inspection and diagnosis.
Do not attempt to modify the immobilizer system or install additional unauthorized devices, as doing so may create electrical problems and potentially render the Kia EV6 inoperable.
The advanced immobilizer technology integrated into the Kia EV6 works together with the electronic smart key system to improve overall vehicle security and theft prevention.
NOTE
When starting the Kia EV6, avoid placing the smart key near other immobilizer keys or electronic key devices. Signal interference between keys may prevent the vehicle from starting correctly or may cause the system to shut the vehicle off shortly after startup. Keep each key separated to avoid malfunction.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of vehicle theft, never leave spare keys or replacement smart keys inside the Kia EV6.
Your immobilizer password and security coding information are unique to your vehicle and should always remain confidential.
Do not store immobilizer security information or key codes inside the vehicle.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules.
Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
This device may not cause harmful interference, and
this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
TIP
Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance may void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
If the Kia EV6 keyless entry system becomes inoperative because of unauthorized modifications or non-approved changes, resulting damage or malfunction may not be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
To use the Digital Key 2 smartphone functionality on the Kia EV6, install the Kia Access App on your compatible smartphone, register your account information, and activate the connected services subscription.
Once setup is completed successfully, the Kia EV6 can recognize the registered smartphone as an authorized digital vehicle key.
Smartphone Registration
|
|
Start the Kia EV6 using the registered smart key and keep the smart key inside the vehicle throughout the Digital Key 2 registration process.
Shift the Kia EV6 into P (Park), then open the Kia Access App on your smartphone and select Digital Key Settings > Register. Follow the registration instructions displayed inside the application.
For smartphones that do not support UWB technology, place the smartphone’s NFC antenna directly onto the center of the indoor authentication pad, also known as the wireless charging pad (1).
|
|
For smartphones equipped with UWB support, the Kia EV6 can register the Digital Key 2 wirelessly even if the smartphone is not physically placed on the indoor authentication pad, provided the phone remains inside the vehicle.
After the Kia EV6 Digital Key 2 registration process is completed successfully, a confirmation message appears on the instrument cluster or infotainment display.
NOTE
You can verify the location of the NFC antenna on Samsung smartphones through Settings > Connections > NFC and contactless payments. On Apple iPhone ®(1), the NFC antenna is located near the top rear section of the device, while the Apple Watch ®(2) places the NFC antenna near the center of the display area. Ensure that the smartphone’s NFC antenna aligns correctly with the Kia EV6 in-vehicle authentication pad (wireless charging pad).
|
Since NFC antenna placement may vary depending on smartphone brand and model, contact the smartphone manufacturer for more detailed hardware information if necessary.
When it is not registered on the Kia Access app on your smartphone
If the message Registering... does not appear on the Kia EV6 infotainment system screen even after placing the smartphone on the indoor authentication pad, registration can still be completed manually using the following procedure.
After turning the Kia EV6 off, restart the vehicle using the smart key and ensure that the smart key remains inside the cabin.
While the Kia EV6 remains in P (Park), open the infotainment system and select Setup > Vehicle > Digital Keys > Smartphone key > My Smartphone Key.
|
Place the smartphone’s NFC antenna directly at the center of the Kia EV6 indoor authentication pad (wireless charging pad).
Once the Kia EV6 Digital Key 2 smartphone registration has been saved successfully, a confirmation message appears on the infotainment display.
TIP
The Kia EV6 infotainment system interface may change following software updates. For updated operating information, refer to the infotainment system manual and quick reference guide.
Vehicle
If a Digital Key 2 smartphone key is already registered in the Kia EV6, the infotainment system displays Delete All within the Smartphone Key menu and Delete within the My Smartphone Key menu. To register a new digital key again, first remove the previously saved digital key.
Smartphone
The Kia EV6 digital key cannot be saved again while an active digital key already exists inside the smartphone manufacturer’s wallet application. Delete the previous digital key from either the OEM wallet application or the vehicle before attempting registration again.
The Kia EV6 Digital Key 2 registration process automatically cancels if any of the following conditions occur:
The smartphone is removed from the indoor authentication pad (wireless charging pad)
The infotainment or instrument cluster screen changes during registration
The Kia EV6 is switched off
The gear position is changed
No smart key is detected inside the vehicle before starting registration
Depending on the internal hardware design of certain smartphones, the Kia EV6 indoor authentication pad may not recognize the device immediately. If registration fails, slightly reposition the smartphone left or right on the wireless charging pad and try again.
UWB (Ultra WideBand) refers to ultra-wideband wireless communication technology, while NFC (Near Field Communication) refers to short-range wireless communication used for close-proximity authentication.
Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
This device may not cause harmful interference, and
this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
TIP
Changes or modifications that are not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance may void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
If the Kia EV6 Digital Key 2 system becomes inoperative due to unauthorized modifications or unapproved changes, such issues may not be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
