Kia EV6: Opening and closing / Auto LOCK Enable on speed

Contents:

When this convenience feature is activated through the Kia EV6 infotainment system, all vehicle doors automatically lock once the vehicle speed exceeds approximately 9 mph (15 km/h).

The automatic speed-sensitive locking system of the Kia EV6 is designed to improve passenger safety and enhance overall vehicle security while driving.

Drivers can activate or deactivate the automatic door locking and unlocking functions according to their personal preferences.

To configure the Auto Lock feature, select Setup > Vehicle > Door > Automatically Lock > Enable on speed through the Kia EV6 infotainment system menu.

The customizable automatic locking functions help make everyday driving in the Kia EV6 more secure and convenient.

Auto LOCK Enable on shift

When this function is enabled in the Kia EV6 infotainment settings, all doors automatically lock once the gear selector is shifted out of P (Park) while the vehicle is in the DRIVE READY state.

This feature helps prevent accidental door opening and improves cabin security while preparing to drive.

Auto UNLOCK On Shift to P

When this convenience feature is enabled, all Kia EV6 doors automatically unlock once the gear selector is shifted into the P (Park) position.

The automatic unlock function provides easier passenger exit access when parking the vehicle.

Auto UNLOCK Vehicle off

If this setting is activated through the Kia EV6 infotainment system, all vehicle doors automatically unlock when the vehicle is switched off.

This automatic unlocking feature improves convenience and allows occupants to exit the Kia EV6 more easily after driving.

Additional unlock safety feature airbag deployment

As an added occupant protection feature, all Kia EV6 doors automatically unlock if a collision is severe enough to trigger airbag deployment.

This emergency unlocking system is designed to assist emergency responders and allow passengers to exit the vehicle more quickly after an accident.

Impact sensing door unlock system

The Kia EV6 impact-sensing door unlock system automatically unlocks all doors when an impact causes the airbags to deploy.

This integrated safety function helps improve occupant safety during emergency situations and collision events.

Child-protector rear door lock: (if equipped)

The child-protector rear door lock system in the Kia EV6 is designed to help prevent children from accidentally opening the rear doors from inside the vehicle while driving.

The rear door safety locks should always be activated whenever children are riding inside the Kia EV6.

The child safety lock mechanism is located on the edge of each rear door. When the child safety lock is set to the lock position (1), the rear door cannot be opened from inside the vehicle even if the interior door handle (2) is pulled.

To activate the child safety lock, insert the mechanical key or a flat screwdriver into the locking slot and rotate it to the lock position.

To allow the rear doors of the Kia EV6 to open normally from inside the cabin again, deactivate the child safety lock mechanism.

WARNING

Rear Door Locks

Always use the rear child safety locks whenever children are inside the Kia EV6. If a child accidentally opens a rear door while the vehicle is moving, serious injury or ejection from the vehicle could occur.

Electronic child safety lock : (if equipped)

Electronic child safety lock activation button inside the Kia EV6

When the electronic child safety lock switch is pressed and the indicator illuminates, rear passengers cannot open the rear doors of the Kia EV6 from inside the vehicle.

To deactivate the electronic child safety lock system, press the switch once again. The indicator light will turn off after the function has been canceled.

Safe Exit Assist operates together with the electronic child safety lock when Safe Exit Assist is enabled through the cluster settings. However, activating Safe Exit Assist alone does not automatically enable the electronic child safety lock system.

If approximately 3 minutes pass after the button is switched to the OFF position, the indicator light on the electronic child safety lock button turns off automatically. Under these conditions, the driver cannot deactivate the system until the Kia EV6 is returned to the POWER ON or DRIVE READY state.

To switch the function off again, press the EV button to the POWER ON or DRIVE READY position and then press the electronic child safety lock button.

WARNING

If children accidentally open the rear doors while the Kia EV6 is moving, they could fall from the vehicle and suffer severe injury. Always activate the electronic child safety lock whenever children are traveling in the rear seats.

NOTE

If the electronic child safety lock system does not operate when the switch is pressed, a warning message appears and an audible alarm sounds.

If the Kia EV6 displays a child safety lock malfunction warning, have the system inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

NOTE

If the Kia EV6 is equipped with the electronic child safety lock system, separate manually operated rear child-protector locks are not included.

Rear Occupant Alert (ROA)

The Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) system is designed to help drivers avoid leaving passengers, children, pets, or belongings in the rear seats of the Kia EV6 after exiting the vehicle.

  • When a rear door has been opened and closed before driving, the Kia EV6 displays the Check rear seats warning message on the instrument cluster after the vehicle is turned off and the driver opens the front door.

The Rear Occupant Alert function can be activated or deactivated through the Kia EV6 infotainment system.

The menu can be accessed using the following steps:

  1. Press the Setup button on the Kia EV6 infotainment screen.

  2. Select Setup > Vehicle > Convenience > Rear Occupant Alert within the infotainment menu.

For additional details regarding system configuration and operation, refer to the separately supplied Kia EV6 infotainment system manual.

WARNING

The Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) system in the Kia EV6 does not physically detect people or objects in the rear seats. Instead, it uses rear door opening and closing history information to remind the driver that rear occupants or belongings may still be inside the vehicle.

CAUTION

  • The Kia EV6 ROA system operates using rear door open and close history data.

  • The stored history resets after the driver turns the vehicle off normally, exits the Kia EV6, and locks the doors remotely. As a result, ROA warnings may still appear even if a rear door has not been reopened.

  • For example, if the driver continues driving the Kia EV6 again without locking the doors after a previous ROA alert, the system may issue another reminder notification.

WARNING

If the Kia EV6 electrical system becomes damaged or compromised, the electronic door locking system may not operate normally. Ensure that child passengers understand how to open the vehicle doors manually before an emergency situation occurs.
