When approaching the Kia EV6 within approximately 1 ft. (30 cm) of either the driver’s or front passenger’s door while carrying the registered smart key, the exterior door handles automatically extend outward and the doors unlock for convenient entry.
At the same time, the hazard warning lights flash twice and the confirmation chime sounds twice, notifying the driver that the Kia EV6 has recognized the smart key and unlocked the vehicle successfully.
After the initial approach detection, the Kia EV6 continues searching for the smart key signal approximately every 5 seconds. If the smart key is no longer detected nearby, the vehicle automatically locks the doors again and the retractable door handles return to their original recessed position.
The intelligent Approach Unlock feature enhances convenience while maintaining the aerodynamic exterior styling of the Kia EV6.
When the Approach unlock is deactivated
|
When the Approach Unlock feature is disabled, the exterior door handles of the Kia EV6 remain recessed even when the driver approaches the vehicle while carrying the smart key.
To unlock the driver’s door manually, touch the lock/unlock sensor located on the driver-side exterior door handle while all doors are closed and locked. The hazard warning lights flash twice and the confirmation chime sounds twice to indicate that the driver’s door has been unlocked.
Touch the driver-side door handle sensor once more to unlock all doors of the Kia EV6. The hazard warning lights and chime operate twice again to confirm that every door has been unlocked successfully.
Touching the lock/unlock sensor on the front passenger-side door handle while all doors are locked unlocks all vehicle doors simultaneously. The hazard warning lights flash twice to confirm the unlocking operation.
If no door is opened within approximately 30 seconds, the Kia EV6 automatically locks the doors again and retracts the exterior door handles back into their closed position.
NOTE
In emergency situations, such as when the 12V battery is discharged, the electric exterior door handles of the Kia EV6 can still be operated manually in a manner similar to conventional mechanical door handles.
|
When all doors are completely closed, touch the sensor area located on the front exterior door handle while carrying the Kia EV6 smart key. The exterior handles automatically retract and all doors lock securely.
After locking is completed, the hazard warning lights flash once and the chime sounds once to confirm successful operation.
The advanced touch sensor locking system of the Kia EV6 provides quick and convenient vehicle access without needing to remove the smart key from your pocket or bag.
NOTE
If the Kia EV6 doors are repeatedly locked and unlocked several times in rapid succession using either the smart key or the door lock switch, the system may temporarily stop operating in order to protect internal electronic circuits and prevent damage to system components. Under these conditions, the Approach Unlock function may also become temporarily unavailable. Wait briefly before attempting operation again.
The Kia EV6 Approach Unlock feature is not designed for continuous repeated operation. If all doors are closed and the system does not respond immediately, retry after a short period of time.
NOTE
In extremely cold or wet weather conditions, freezing moisture may affect the normal operation of the Kia EV6 door locks and door handle mechanisms.
If the doors are repeatedly locked or unlocked too quickly using either the smart key or door lock switch, the electronic protection system may temporarily suspend operation to prevent overheating or electrical damage.
When washing the vehicle
Self car wash
Keep the Kia EV6 locked with the exterior door handles fully retracted before entering a self-service car wash.
If you need to keep the vehicle unlocked, gently push the exterior door handle inward manually. This function helps prevent accidental damage to the retractable handle mechanism during washing. The handle will automatically extend again when the unlock button is pressed.
Auto car wash
Keep all doors of the Kia EV6 locked with the retractable door handles fully closed before entering an automatic car wash.
If the smart key is outside the vehicle, switch the Kia EV6 off completely and keep the smart key at least 78 inches (2 m) away from the vehicle to prevent accidental operation of the exterior door handles during washing.
|
Press the front section (1) of the Kia EV6 exterior door handle to extend the rear section outward. While continuing to press the front portion, insert the mechanical emergency key (2) into the lock cylinder with the key handle facing downward, as illustrated.
To lock the Kia EV6 door manually, turn the key toward the front (left side) of the vehicle. To unlock the door, turn the key toward the rear (right side) of the vehicle.
The mechanical emergency key provides backup access to the Kia EV6 during situations involving battery discharge, freezing temperatures, or electronic malfunction.
NOTE
Do not apply excessive force to the Kia EV6 exterior door or retractable door handle mechanism. Excessive pressure may damage the handle assembly or surrounding body components.
CAUTION
Do not apply excessive force on the Kia EV6 door or door handle assembly, as this could damage the retractable handle mechanism or door structure.
NOTE
The mechanical emergency key only locks or unlocks the driver’s door of the Kia EV6. For additional emergency access procedures, refer to the emergency section of this chapter.
