If equipped, the Kia EV6 panoramic wide sunroof can be tilted or slid open using the control switch located on the overhead console.

Kia EV6 panoramic wide sunroof controls and operation

The Kia EV6 sunroof operates only when the EV button is in the POWER ON or DRIVE READY position.

The sunroof can still operate for approximately 3 minutes after the EV button is switched to the OFF position. However, if a front door is opened during this time, sunroof operation will stop.

The wide glass roof design of the Kia EV6 enhances cabin openness and increases natural light for both front and rear passengers.

WARNING

  • Operate the Kia EV6 sunroof only when it is safe to do so. Using the sunroof while driving may distract the driver and increase the risk of an accident.

  • Whenever leaving the Kia EV6 unattended, switch the vehicle off and take the smart key with you to prevent children from operating the sunroof.

  • Do not sit, stand, or place heavy objects on the Kia EV6 sunroof glass, as this may damage the mechanism or glass panel.

Power sunshade

The advanced power sunshade system in the Kia EV6 is designed to reduce direct sunlight entering through the panoramic sunroof glass while helping maintain a more comfortable cabin environment for both the driver and passengers. This feature also improves driving comfort during hot weather conditions and enhances the premium interior atmosphere of the Kia EV6.

  • Push the sunroof switch rearward to the first detent position and the power sunshade will automatically slide open, allowing additional natural light and improved visibility inside the Kia EV6 cabin.

  • Push the sunroof switch forward to the first detent position and the power sunshade will automatically close. If the sunroof glass is currently open, the glass panel will close first before the power sunshade finishes its operation.

To immediately stop the movement of the power sunshade at any desired position, push the sunroof switch in any direction.

The panoramic roof system of the Kia EV6 is engineered for smooth and quiet operation, providing a refined experience during daily driving or long-distance travel.

NOTE

Do not attempt to manually pull or push the power sunshade, as doing so may damage the internal mechanism or lead to improper operation of the Kia EV6 sunroof system.

Wrinkles or slight surface variations visible on the power sunshade material are considered normal characteristics of the fabric used in the Kia EV6.

Tilt open or close

  • Push the sunroof switch upward and the sunroof glass will tilt open automatically. If the power sunshade is fully closed, the sunshade will open first before the glass tilting function begins.

  • Push the sunroof switch upward or forward while the sunroof glass is in the tilted-open position, and the sunroof glass will automatically close securely.

To stop the movement of the Kia EV6 sunroof at any position, push the sunroof switch in any direction.

The tilt ventilation mode is especially useful for improving airflow inside the Kia EV6 while minimizing excessive wind noise during driving.

Slide open or close

  • Push the sunroof switch rearward to the first detent position and the sunroof glass will begin to open. If the power sunshade is closed, the power sunshade will automatically open first before the glass panel slides rearward.

    Push the sunroof switch forward to the first detent position and the sunroof glass will close. Once the sunroof glass is fully closed, the power sunshade will close automatically.

  • Push the sunroof switch forward or rearward to the second detent position and the sunroof glass together with the power sunshade will operate automatically until reaching the fully open or fully closed position.

    To stop the Kia EV6 sunroof movement at any moment, push the sunroof switch in any direction.

The large panoramic roof area of the Kia EV6 helps create a more spacious and open feeling inside the vehicle while enhancing the premium electric crossover experience.

Automatic reversal

If the power sunshade or sunroof glass detects an obstacle while automatically closing, the system will reverse direction and then stop at a certain position to help prevent injury or damage.

The automatic reversal feature may not operate properly if a thin, soft, or flexible object becomes trapped between the sliding power sunshade or sunroof glass and the sunroof frame.

The Kia EV6 incorporates advanced anti-pinch protection technology as part of its modern safety and convenience systems.

WARNING

  • Ensure that heads, hands, arms, fingers, or any other body parts and objects are clear of the sunroof opening before operating the system. Serious injury or vehicle damage may occur if something becomes trapped.

  • Never intentionally use any part of your body to test the automatic reversal function. Injury may still occur even if the sunroof glass or power sunshade reverses direction.

NOTE

  • Do not continue pressing the sunroof switch after the Kia EV6 sunroof is fully opened, closed, or tilted. This may damage the sunroof motor and internal components.

  • Repeated continuous operations such as slide open, slide close, tilt open, or tilt close may cause overheating or malfunction of the sunroof system.

  • Regularly clean accumulated dust and debris from the sunroof rails to maintain smooth operation.

  • Open the sunroof occasionally and clean dust between the sunroof glass and roof panel using a soft clean cloth.

  • Do not attempt to open the sunroof when temperatures are below freezing or when the sunroof is covered with snow or ice. Forced operation may damage the system.

  • Do not drive with the sunroof open immediately after washing the Kia EV6 or after heavy rain, as water may enter the vehicle interior.

  • Do not extend luggage or oversized objects through the sunroof opening while driving. Sudden braking may result in vehicle damage or unsafe driving conditions.

WARNING

Never extend your head, arms, body parts, or any objects through the sunroof opening while the Kia EV6 is moving. Sudden stops or unexpected maneuvers could cause serious injuries.

Resetting the sunroof

Under certain conditions, it may become necessary to reset the Kia EV6 sunroof system to restore normal operation. Typical situations include:

  • When the 12V battery has been disconnected or completely discharged

  • When the sunroof fuse has been replaced or serviced

  • If the sunroof one-touch AUTOOPEN / CLOSE feature is not operating correctly

Sunroof resetting procedure:

  1. It is recommended to perform the reset procedure while the Kia EV6 is in READY mode. Place the vehicle in P (Park) before starting.

  2. Make sure the power sunshade and sunroof glass are completely closed. If either component is open, push the switch forward until the power sunshade and sunroof glass are fully closed.

  3. Release the switch once the power sunshade and sunroof glass are fully closed.

  4. Push the switch forward again until the power sunshade and sunroof glass move slightly. Then release the switch.

  5. Once again push and hold the sunroof switch forward until the power sunshade and sunroof glass complete a full slide open and close cycle. Do not release the switch until the operation has fully completed.

    If the switch is released during the process, repeat the entire procedure beginning from step 2.

Correctly resetting the Kia EV6 sunroof system can help restore automatic opening and closing functions as well as ensure smooth and accurate operation.

NOTE

If the Kia EV6 sunroof system does not reset after the vehicle battery has been disconnected or discharged, or after a blown fuse, the sunroof may not function correctly and additional inspection may be required.

If the driver switches off the Kia EV6 while the panoramic sunroof is not completely closed, a warning chime will sound for several seconds and a sunroof open warning message will appear on the instrument cluster LCD display.

The Kia EV6 is equipped with this reminder system to help prevent accidental exposure of the interior to rain, snow, dust, or unauthorized access when the vehicle is parked.

Always make sure the sunroof is securely closed before leaving your Kia EV6 unattended.

CAUTION

Verify that the sunroof is fully closed whenever exiting the vehicle.

If the sunroof remains open, rainwater or snow may enter the interior and damage electronic components or upholstery. Leaving the sunroof open while the Kia EV6 is unattended may also increase the risk of theft or unauthorized entry.
