When you open the liftgate of the Kia EV6, a spacious rear cargo area becomes available for luggage, travel equipment, shopping bags, and everyday storage needs. The wide opening design improves convenience when loading or unloading larger items.
The liftgate of the Kia EV6 locks and unlocks together with all vehicle doors when using the smart key, mechanical key, or the central door lock/unlock switch. This integrated system adds extra convenience and security for everyday driving and cargo access.
CAUTION
Liftgate gas lifters
Always make sure the Kia EV6 liftgate is fully closed before driving. Driving with the liftgate partially open may damage the liftgate gas lifters, hinges, or related mounting hardware over time.

The liftgate alone can be unlocked by pressing and holding the liftgate unlock button on the Kia EV6 smart key for approximately 1 second.
Once unlocked, press the liftgate handle (1) and gently lift upward to open the cargo area.
After the liftgate is opened and then closed again, it automatically locks when all vehicle doors remain locked.

NOTE
In cold or wet weather conditions, the Kia EV6 door locks and liftgate mechanisms may operate slower or become temporarily affected by freezing temperatures.

Lower the Kia EV6 liftgate carefully and press it downward firmly until it latches securely into position.

Rear Cargo Area
Passengers should never ride inside the rear cargo area of the Kia EV6 because proper restraints and safety equipment are not available there. All occupants must remain properly seated and restrained while the vehicle is moving.

To manually unlock and open the Kia EV6 liftgate from inside the luggage compartment, follow the procedure below:
Insert a long, flat tool into the opening located at the bottom section of the liftgate trim.
Move the latch mechanism in the direction indicated by the arrow to release the liftgate lock.
Push the liftgate outward to open it manually.
WARNING
For emergency preparedness, familiarize yourself with the location and operation of the Kia EV6 emergency liftgate release latch before an emergency occurs.
No person or animal should ever remain inside the luggage compartment. In the event of an accident, the cargo area can become extremely dangerous.
The emergency release latch should only be used during emergency situations. Exercise extreme caution, especially if the Kia EV6 is moving.

No passenger should occupy the cargo compartment of the Kia EV6 at any time. The rear cargo area is not designed for passenger transportation.
