Kia EV6: Opening and closing / Lock (1)

Contents:

All doors of the Kia EV6 are securely locked when the lock button is pressed. If every door is fully closed, the hazard warning lights will flash once and the warning chime will sound once to confirm that the vehicle has been locked successfully.

If one or more doors remain open, the hazard warning lights and confirmation chime may not activate. However, once all doors are properly closed after pressing the lock button, the Kia EV6 will automatically confirm the locking operation with a single flash of the hazard lights and a confirmation sound.

The advanced smart key system used in the Kia EV6 is designed to improve security, convenience, and driver confidence during daily operation.

Unlock (2)

The driver’s door unlocks when the unlock button is pressed once. The hazard warning lights will blink twice, and the warning chime will sound twice to indicate that the driver’s door has been unlocked.

Pressing the unlock button a second time unlocks all remaining doors of the Kia EV6. The hazard warning lights will flash twice again to confirm that all doors are now unlocked.

After the unlock button has been pressed, the doors will automatically relock unless a door is opened within approximately 30 seconds.

If you attempt to lock or unlock the Kia EV6 under any of the following conditions, the system may prevent the operation for safety reasons:

  • When attempting to lock or unlock the doors while the vehicle is in the POWER ON or DRIVE READY mode.

  • When trying to lock the vehicle while one or more doors remain open.

Depending on the Kia EV6 configuration, drivers may activate or deactivate the two-press unlock feature, which requires pressing the unlock button twice to unlock all doors.

NOTE

  • If the Kia EV6 smart key becomes inoperative due to water exposure or liquid contamination, resulting damage may not be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.

  • Window tint film, particularly metalized tint film, may interfere with the receiving frequency of the Kia EV6 smart key system and reduce operating range or signal performance.

Liftgate unlock/Power liftgate open/close (3): (if equipped)

The liftgate of the Kia EV6 unlocks or automatically opens, if equipped with the power liftgate feature, when the button is pressed and held for more than one second.

When the power liftgate is already open, press and hold the power liftgate button again to close it automatically. If the button is released while the liftgate is closing, the operation will stop and the Kia EV6 will emit a warning sound for approximately five seconds.

The available power liftgate system improves convenience when loading cargo or accessing the luggage compartment with limited hand movement.

Panic alarm (4)

The horn sounds and the hazard warning lights flash for approximately 30 seconds when this button is pressed for longer than 0.5 seconds.

To deactivate the panic alarm system, press any button on the Kia EV6 smart key transmitter.

The panic alarm function may help drivers locate the vehicle quickly in crowded parking areas or draw attention during emergency situations.

Remote start (5)

The Kia EV6 can be remotely started using the remote start button integrated into the smart key system.

To remotely start the Kia EV6:

  • Lock all doors by pressing the door lock button (1) while remaining within approximately 32 ft (10 m) of the vehicle.

  • Within 4 seconds after locking the doors, press and hold the remote start button for more than 2 seconds.

Press the remote start button once again to switch the vehicle off remotely.

If no additional vehicle operation occurs after remote starting, the Kia EV6 will automatically turn off approximately 10 minutes later.

During the remote start process, the hazard warning lights flash three times to confirm successful activation. To stop the remotely started vehicle, press the Remote Start button (5) again.

The remote start function allows the cabin of the Kia EV6 to begin climate conditioning before entering the vehicle, improving comfort during extremely hot or cold weather conditions.

NOTE

The hazard warning light confirmation sequence during remote starting may vary depending on local regulations or market specifications.

Remote smart parking assist (RSPA) (6, 7): (if equipped)

The Kia EV6 allows the driver to operate certain parking functions remotely without inserting the key into the vehicle.

Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) uses advanced ultrasonic sensors and intelligent control systems to help guide the Kia EV6 into or out of parking spaces semi-automatically.

Using the forward and backward buttons (6, 7) located on the Kia EV6 smart key, the driver can remotely move the vehicle forward or backward while outside the vehicle.

The RSPA system assists with steering, vehicle speed control, and gear selection to simplify parking in tight or challenging spaces.

For detailed operating procedures and safety precautions, refer to the Remote Smart Parking Assist section of the Kia EV6 Owner’s Manual.

Start-up

The Kia EV6 can be started without physically inserting the key into the vehicle.

As long as the smart key is detected inside the cabin, drivers can activate the vehicle using the EV button.

The push-button start system improves convenience while maintaining advanced electronic security protection.

For additional information regarding vehicle startup procedures, refer to the EV button section of this Kia EV6 manual.

Pull the mechanical key out from the protective smart key cover (1).

The mechanical emergency key provides backup access to the Kia EV6 in situations involving discharged batteries, electronic malfunctions, or signal interference.

This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules.

Operation is subject to the following two conditions:

  1. This device may not cause harmful interference, and

  2. this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.

TIP

Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance may void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.

If the Kia EV6 smart key becomes inoperative due to unauthorized modifications or unapproved alterations, resulting failures may not be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

Losing the smart key

A maximum of two smart keys can be registered to a single Kia EV6 vehicle.

If a smart key is lost, the vehicle may no longer start normally. To protect the Kia EV6 against unauthorized access or theft, immediately contact an authorized Kia dealer and bring the remaining key to the dealership.

If necessary, have the Kia EV6 transported to the dealership so the lost key can be deactivated and a replacement smart key can be properly registered to the vehicle.

Keeping both registered smart keys in safe locations can help prevent unexpected inconvenience and reduce the risk of vehicle security issues.

Smart key precautions

The Kia EV6 smart key may not operate correctly under certain environmental or electronic conditions. Various external signals and nearby electronic devices can interfere with communication between the smart key and the vehicle.

  • The Kia EV6 smart key may not function properly when positioned close to strong radio transmitters such as airport communication systems, broadcasting stations, or similar high-frequency equipment that can interfere with normal signal transmission.

  • The smart key signal may also be affected when it is located near mobile two-way radio systems, wireless communication equipment, or active mobile phones.

  • If another vehicle equipped with a smart key system is being operated nearby, the radio signals may temporarily interfere with the operation of your Kia EV6 smart key.

If the Kia EV6 smart key does not function normally, use the mechanical emergency key to lock or unlock the doors and contact an authorized Kia dealer for inspection and assistance.

When the smart key is kept very close to a mobile phone or smartphone, the phone’s operating signals may interfere with the communication frequency of the smart key. This situation is more likely while making phone calls, receiving calls, sending messages, or transmitting data. To reduce the possibility of interference, avoid placing the Kia EV6 smart key and mobile devices in the same pocket or storage compartment.

CAUTION

Smart Key

Keep the Kia EV6 smart key away from water, beverages, or other liquids. Exposure to moisture may permanently damage internal electronic components and prevent the key from functioning correctly.

NOTE

Losing the smart key

A maximum of two smart keys can be registered to a single Kia EV6 vehicle.

If a smart key is lost, the vehicle may no longer start normally. To reduce the risk of theft or unauthorized access, immediately bring the Kia EV6 and the remaining smart key to an authorized Kia dealer. If necessary, have the vehicle transported to the dealer for inspection and key registration.
