Radio transmitter towers located throughout urban and rural areas broadcast AM and FM radio signals that are received through the Kia EV6 roof-mounted antenna system.
The Kia EV6 audio system processes these incoming radio signals and delivers sound through the vehicle speakers for high-quality entertainment and communication.
However, under certain driving or environmental conditions, the radio signal received by the Kia EV6 may become weak, distorted, or temporarily unclear.
Signal quality may be affected by several factors, including the distance from the radio transmitter, interference from nearby radio stations, tunnels, bridges, mountains, tall buildings, parking structures, or other large obstacles surrounding the Kia EV6.
AM reception
|
AM radio broadcasts can generally be received over much greater distances than FM broadcasts. This is because AM radio waves operate at lower frequencies and travel differently compared to FM signals.
Low-frequency AM radio waves used by the Kia EV6 audio system can follow the curvature of the earth rather than traveling only in straight lines.
Additionally, AM signals can bend around certain obstacles, helping provide broader signal coverage and more reliable long-distance reception for the Kia EV6 radio system.
FM radio station
|
FM radio broadcasts operate at much higher frequencies and generally travel in straight-line patterns instead of following the earth’s surface.
Because of this characteristic, FM radio signals received by the Kia EV6 may begin to weaken at shorter distances from the transmitter tower.
FM signals are also more easily affected by mountains, tunnels, buildings, bridges, parking structures, and other large obstacles. These conditions may occasionally create temporary radio reception disturbances inside the Kia EV6 cabin.
The following conditions are considered normal Kia EV6 radio operating characteristics and do not indicate a malfunction of the audio system:
Fading - As the Kia EV6 moves farther away from the selected FM radio station, the signal strength gradually weakens and the audio volume may begin to fade. If this occurs, select another radio station with a stronger signal.
|
Flutter or static - Weak FM signals or large obstructions between the transmitter tower and the Kia EV6 antenna may create static noise, fluttering sounds, or signal interruptions. Reducing the treble level may help minimize the effect until signal conditions improve.
Station swapping - As an FM signal becomes weaker, another stronger signal operating near the same frequency may begin to play automatically. This occurs because the Kia EV6 radio system is designed to lock onto the clearest available signal. If this situation occurs, select another station with stronger reception.
|
Multi-path cancellation - Radio signals reaching the Kia EV6 antenna from multiple directions may cause temporary distortion or fluttering audio. This may happen because of reflected signals from buildings, mountains, or nearby structures, or from two stations transmitting on similar frequencies. If this occurs, switching to another station usually resolves the condition.
Using a mobile phone or a two-way radio
When a mobile phone is used inside the Kia EV6, electrical interference or audio noise may occasionally be heard through the vehicle speakers. This does not indicate a malfunction of the Kia EV6 audio system.
If interference occurs, operate the mobile device as far away from the Kia EV6 infotainment system and antenna components as possible.
When operating communication equipment such as mobile phones or two-way radios inside the Kia EV6, a separate external antenna should be used whenever possible.
Using communication equipment with only an internal antenna may interfere with the Kia EV6 electrical systems and could negatively affect safe vehicle operation.
WARNING
Mobile Phone Use
Do not use a hand-held mobile phone while driving the Kia EV6. Always stop the vehicle in a safe location before using a mobile phone or communication device.
WARNING
Distracted driving
Driving while distracted may result in loss of control of the Kia EV6 and could lead to an accident, serious injury, or death.
The driver’s primary responsibility is the safe and legal operation of the vehicle. Hand-held devices, communication equipment, infotainment controls, or any other systems that divert the driver’s attention away from the road should never be used while operating the Kia EV6.
