Professional Maintenance Tip: Always ensure the Kia K4 engine is switched off and has sufficiently cooled down before opening the hood or attempting to check any fluid levels. Never attempt to remove the radiator cap while the engine is hot, as the system is under pressure and could cause severe burns. If you are unsure about the location or maintenance procedure for any of these components, consult your Kia K4 owner's manual or visit an authorized service center for professional assistance.

Maintenance services

When performing any maintenance or inspection procedures on your Kia K4, prioritize safety by taking the utmost care to prevent accidental damage to the vehicle and to avoid personal injury. Always ensure the vehicle is on a stable, flat surface and the engine is off unless the procedure specifically requires it to be running.

If you have any doubts, questions, or concerns regarding the proper inspection or maintenance of your Kia K4, do not attempt the work yourself. Instead, have an authorized Kia dealer perform the necessary service.

Authorized Kia dealers employ factory-trained technicians who possess the specific knowledge and diagnostic equipment to service your Kia K4 correctly. Furthermore, they use genuine Kia parts, which are engineered to meet the exact specifications of your vehicle. For expert technical advice and high-quality service, always rely on an authorized Kia dealer.

Be aware that inadequate, incomplete, or insufficient service can lead to operational problems. Such neglect may result in premature component failure, vehicle damage, dangerous driving conditions, or serious personal injury.

Owner’s responsibility

NOTE

Proper maintenance service and the diligent retention of service records are your responsibility as the vehicle owner.

It is essential that you retain all invoices, receipts, and documents proving that regular maintenance has been performed on your Kia K4 according to the scheduled maintenance charts outlined in this manual. You will need this documentation to demonstrate your compliance with the servicing requirements, which is a condition for maintaining the validity of your vehicle warranties.

Consult your Warranty and Consumer Information manual for comprehensive details regarding your coverage. Please note that any repairs, adjustments, or replacements necessitated by improper maintenance or a failure to adhere to the required service schedule are not covered under the manufacturer's warranty.

To ensure your vehicle remains in peak condition, have your Kia K4 maintained and repaired exclusively by an authorized Kia dealer. Authorized Kia dealers are held to the highest service quality standards and receive continuous technical support directly from the manufacturer, ensuring a superior level of satisfaction and vehicle reliability.

NOTE

NHTSA Safety Corrosion Alert

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a safety advisory to vehicle owners of all brands regarding the risks associated with vehicle underbody corrosion. To protect the structural integrity of your Kia K4, take the following preventative measures:

  • Regularly wash the underbody of your Kia K4 during the winter months, or whenever the vehicle has been exposed to road salts, de-icing chemicals, or coastal salt air.

  • Perform a thorough, high-pressure wash of the entire undercarriage at the end of the winter season to remove accumulated residues that promote rust.

  • Periodically inspect the underbody for any signs of surface rust or protective coating damage and address these areas promptly to prevent further corrosion.

  • Have your Kia K4 professionally inspected for corrosion annually by a qualified service technician or at an authorized governmental inspection station to ensure the vehicle's long-term safety.

  • Seek an immediate inspection for your Kia K4 if you observe any signs of corrosion, such as flaking, bubbling, or scaling paint. Additionally, stay alert for any changes in vehicle performance, including soft or spongy brake feel, fluid leaks under the car, loss of directional control, unusual suspension noises, or audible rattling from metal underbody straps.

  • The NHTSA further advises that once your Kia K4 is over 7 years old, it becomes increasingly essential to adhere strictly to these maintenance recommendations to protect yourself and your passengers from potential hazards caused by advanced corrosion.

  • Owner maintenance precautions

While taking care of your vehicle is rewarding, please note that improper or incomplete service may lead to mechanical issues. This section is designed to provide guidance only for basic maintenance tasks that are safe and straightforward for an owner to perform on their Kia K4.

Please remember that several complex technical procedures require specialized diagnostic equipment and training, and these can only be performed correctly by an authorized Kia dealer.

    NOTE

Performing improper or inadequate maintenance on your Kia K4 during the warranty period may negatively impact your warranty coverage. For specific details and limitations, please refer to the separate Warranty and Consumer Information manual provided with your vehicle. If you feel uncertain about any specific service or maintenance procedure, it is always best to have it performed by an authorized Kia dealer to maintain the vehicle's integrity.

    WARNING

    Maintenance work safety

To prevent serious injury, do not wear jewelry or loose clothing while working under the hood of your Kia K4, especially if the engine is running. Items such as rings, bracelets, watches, and necklaces, as well as scarves or neckties, can easily become entangled in rotating components like the drive belt or cooling fans. If you absolutely must have the engine running while performing a check, remove all such items before reaching near any moving parts.

    WARNING

    Touching metal parts

Exercise extreme caution and avoid touching metal components, including engine strut bars, exhaust manifolds, or radiator parts, while your Kia K4 is operating or shortly after it has been driven. These surfaces reach extremely high temperatures and can cause severe burns upon contact. Always turn the vehicle ignition to the OFF position and allow sufficient time for the metal components to cool completely before attempting any maintenance work on the Kia K4.

    12V Parking lithium battery

In addition to the main starting battery, your Kia K4 utilizes an auxiliary 12V lithium parking battery. This unit is designed to provide a stable power supply for specific functions while the vehicle is parked, such as processing Over-the-Air (OTA) updates, climate "after-blow" features, and Climate Control System (CCS) operation.

    12V Lithium auxiliary battery care

The 12V lithium auxiliary battery is equipped with sophisticated self-monitoring. If the system detects an abnormality—such as an over-temperature condition or overcharging—an warning message will appear on the instrument cluster. Additionally, if your Kia K4 is linked to a registered mobile phone, a malfunction alert text message will be sent to notify you of the issue.

Note that this automated text notification is an exclusive feature for customers subscribed to the Kia Connect service.

    TIP

If you see a warning on your instrument cluster or receive a text notification on your phone, do not ignore it. Have the lithium battery system inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible to ensure the continued reliability of your Kia K4.
