Checking the brake fluid level

Monitoring the brake fluid level in your Kia K4 is a critical maintenance task for safety. Periodically inspect the reservoir; the fluid level should consistently remain between the MAX and MIN markers embossed on the side of the container.

  1. To prevent the introduction of contaminants into the sensitive hydraulic braking system, use a clean cloth to thoroughly wipe the area around the reservoir cap before removing it to inspect or add fluid.
  2. Regularly verify that the brake fluid level resides between the MIN and MAX indicators. Note that a gradual decline in fluid level as you accumulate mileage is a standard and expected condition, as it corresponds to the natural wear of the brake pads and linings.

However, if the fluid level in your Kia K4 drops rapidly or falls below the MIN mark, you must have the brake system inspected immediately by an authorized Kia dealer to check for leaks or premature component failure.

For your safety, use only high-performance hydraulic brake fluid that strictly conforms to DOT 4 specifications. Please refer to the "Recommended lubricants and capacities" section of your manual for the exact requirements for the Kia K4 braking system.

Never mix different types or brands of brake fluid, as chemical incompatibility can cause system failure.

TIP

Loss of brake fluid

If you find that your Kia K4 brake system requires frequent fluid top-offs, this indicates a potential leak or hydraulic issue. Please have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer at the earliest opportunity.

WARNING

Brake fluid handling

Handle brake fluid with extreme care, as it is a hazardous chemical. Ensure it does not come into contact with your eyes. If accidental contact occurs, immediately flush your eyes with a large volume of fresh tap water for several minutes and seek an examination by a doctor as soon as possible.

NOTE

Protect your vehicle's finish by preventing brake fluid from coming into contact with the body paint, as it is highly corrosive and will cause irreversible damage. Never utilize fluid from a container that has been left open to the atmosphere for an extended period, as brake fluid is hygroscopic (absorbs moisture), which degrades its performance; dispose of any old, opened containers properly. Additionally, strictly avoid putting any non-brake fluid into the reservoir. Even a trace amount of mineral-based oil—such as engine oil—will destroy the seals and internal components of your Kia K4 braking system.
