Basic function

The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system in your Kia K4 is designed to proactively monitor the road ahead. By utilizing advanced sensor fusion technology, it can detect vehicles, motorcyclists, pedestrians, or cyclists in your path. If the system calculates that a collision is imminent, it provides both a visual warning on the instrument cluster and an audible alert to the driver. Furthermore, the Kia K4 can automatically apply the brakes if necessary to help reduce the impact speed or, in certain conditions, completely avoid a collision.

Beyond standard forward detection, the Kia K4 is capable of identifying vehicles in adjacent lanes even at higher speeds. Should you initiate a lane change while an obstacle is detected in the target area, the vehicle may trigger automatic emergency braking to mitigate the risk and help you maintain safety during high-speed maneuvers.

Junction Turning function

When you prepare to turn left at a crossroad with your turn signal active, the Junction Turning function monitors the oncoming lane. If the system detects a vehicle, motorcyclist, or cyclist approaching from the opposite direction, it will activate emergency braking to assist you in avoiding a potentially hazardous collision.

Direct Oncoming function

The Direct Oncoming function adds an extra layer of protection to your Kia K4 by monitoring for traffic approaching from the opposite direction. If the sensors detect a vehicle or motorcyclist heading toward you, the system can assist in reducing the collision speed to mitigate the severity of a potential impact.

Junction Crossing function:

The Junction Crossing function is designed to assist you when crossing an intersection. It can detect vehicles approaching from your left or right side and, if necessary, apply emergency braking to help you mitigate or avoid a collision, providing enhanced peace of mind while driving your Kia K4 through busy intersections.

Lane-Change Oncoming function:

When you are in the process of changing lanes, the Lane-Change Oncoming function monitors your surroundings. If it detects a vehicle or motorcyclist approaching in the target lane, it can assist with steering adjustments to help you avoid a collision and maintain a safe path for your Kia K4.

When executing lane changes, the Lane-Change Side function actively monitors the adjacent lanes. This system is designed to provide steering assistance to the driver of the Kia K4, helping to mitigate or altogether avoid potential collisions with vehicles or motorcyclists traveling in the next lane. By continuously scanning for threats, this feature enhances the safety profile of your Kia K4 during highway driving and urban commutes.

Evasive Steering Assist function:

  • Driver Steering Assist

If the advanced sensor array of your Kia K4 detects a potential collision trajectory with a vehicle, pedestrian, or cyclist positioned ahead, the Driver Steering Assist feature may provide torque input to the steering wheel. This assistance is designed to support the driver in executing an evasive maneuver to avoid the collision.

  • Evasive Steering Assist

The Evasive Steering Assist function is engineered to help mitigate or prevent collisions with pedestrians or cyclists located in the same lane. Should the Kia K4 detect a high risk of collision, the system will provide a warning and proactively assist your steering inputs as you turn the steering wheel to move the vehicle out of harm's way.

Detection sensor

For a comprehensive overview of the applicable sensors, their technical specifications, and their precise installation locations on the Kia K4, please refer to the "Detecting sensor(s)" section in this manual.

CAUTION

  • Never attempt to damage, modify, or disassemble the detection sensor or the associated sensor assembly, as this can permanently compromise the safety systems of the Kia K4.

  • If any detection sensors have been replaced or repaired, it is mandatory to have the vehicle inspected and calibrated by an authorized Kia dealer to ensure correct functionality.

  • If your Kia K4 experiences an impact to the front or rear bumper areas near the radar sensors, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist may cease to operate correctly. This can occur even if the instrument cluster does not display an explicit warning message. Please consult an authorized Kia dealer for a diagnostic check.

  • To ensure the front view camera maintains a clear line of sight, never tint the windshield or install any aftermarket accessories, stickers, or dash-cams that could obstruct the camera's field of view.

  • Ensure the front view camera area is kept dry and clean at all times to prevent sensor interference.

  • Do not place any reflective objects, such as white paper, mirrors, or glossy ornaments, on the dashboard or near the instrument cluster, as these may cause glare or reflections that interfere with sensor operation.

  • Do not place objects or install accessories near the windshield, as this can disrupt the airflow for the climate control system’s defogging and defrosting functions. Obstructed defogging may prevent the Driver Assistance systems from seeing clearly through the windshield.

  • Do not apply license plate frames, bumper stickers, protective films, or bumper guards near the front radar cover, as these can block the radar signals.

  • Always keep the front radar cover clean and free of dirt, mud, snow, or road debris. Use only a soft cloth and mild soap to clean the area. Do not spray high-pressure water directly on the sensor or the sensor cover.

  • Do not paint or alter the surface of the front, front corner, or rear corner radar sensor covers. Any modification will likely cause the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system to malfunction. Always use genuine Kia parts or components of equivalent quality for any repairs involving these sensors.

  • System performance may be significantly degraded if the bumper is replaced, or if the areas surrounding the front or rear corner radars have been damaged or repainted with non-standard materials.

  • Installing aftermarket towing equipment, trailers, or rear-mounted carriers can adversely affect the performance of the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system, potentially causing the system to provide false warnings or fail to activate when needed.
