Kia Seltos: Rear View Monitor (RVM) / RVM malfunction and limitations

Contents:

RVM malfunction

If Rear View Monitor (RVM) malfunctions, the image on the screen may appear green, blue, black, distorted, or otherwise abnormal.

If RVM is not working properly, the screen flickers, or the camera image does not display normally, have the function inspected by an authorized Kia dealer. A clear rear camera image is important when maneuvering the Kia Seltos at low speeds.

Limitations of RVM

When the Kia Seltos is stopped for a long time in winter, or when the vehicle is parked in an indoor parking lot, exhaust fumes or moisture may temporarily blur the camera image.

The screen may appear abnormal under the following condition:

  • When the tailgate is open.

WARNING

  • The rear view camera does not show the complete area behind the vehicle. Always check the rear area directly using the inside mirror, outside rearview mirrors, and by looking around before parking or backing up.

  • The image shown on the screen may not accurately represent the actual distance to an object. Always check the surroundings of your Kia Seltos directly for safety.

  • Always keep the rear view camera lens clean. If the lens is covered with dirt, snow, water, dust, or other foreign material, camera performance may be reduced and RVM may not operate normally. Do not use chemical solvents such as strong detergents, high-alkaline cleaners, gasoline, acetone, or other volatile organic solvents, as these may damage the camera lens.

  • Driving with the tailgate open is not normal and can be unsafe. If the tailgate is open, be especially careful and drive only when absolutely necessary.

Kia Seltos SP2 (2021-2026) Owner's Manual: Theft-alarm system

The Kia Seltos theft-alarm system is designed to help protect the vehicle from unauthorized entry and unwanted access. This system operates in three stages: the first is the "Armed" stage, the second is the "Theft-alarm" stage, and the third is the "Disarmed" stage. If the system is triggered, the Kia Seltos provides an audible alarm and the hazard warning lights blink to draw attention to the vehicle.

Kia Seltos SP2 (2021-2026) Owner's Manual: Safe Exit Warning (SEW)

Safe Exit Warning (SEW) in the Kia Seltos is designed to help protect occupants when the vehicle is stopped. If an approaching vehicle from the rear area is detected as a passenger opens a door, SEW may warn the driver with a warning message and an audible alert to help reduce the risk of a collision. CAUTION The warning timing may vary depending on the speed of the approaching vehicle and the surrounding traffic conditions.
