Kia Seltos: Key positions / Ignition switch position

Contents:

Your Kia Seltos is equipped with four different ignition positions. Each position controls a different stage of vehicle operation, from locking the steering system to powering accessories and starting the engine.

Kia Seltos ignition switch positions LOCK ACC ON and START

LOCK (1)

The ignition key can be removed only when the switch is in the LOCK position. This position helps secure the Kia Seltos when the vehicle is parked and not in use.

ACC (Accessory) (2)

In the ACC position, electrical accessories can be operated without starting the engine. If it is difficult to turn the ignition switch to ACC, gently turn the key while moving the steering wheel right and left to release steering wheel tension.

ON (3)

In the ON position, the warning lights can be checked before the engine is started. This is also the normal operating position after the engine has started.

Do not leave the ignition switch in the ON position when the engine is not running, as this may discharge the battery and prevent the Kia Seltos from starting later.

START (4)

Turn the ignition switch to the START position to start the engine. The engine will crank until the key is released, and then the switch returns automatically to the ON position. The brake warning light can also be checked while the switch is in this position.

Before leaving the driver's seat, always confirm that the shift lever is in P (Park) for the intelligent variable transmission, fully apply the parking brake, and turn the engine off. If these precautions are not followed, the Kia Seltos may move unexpectedly and create a serious safety risk.

Kia Seltos warning about heavy key holder and ignition switch safety

WARNING

Key holder

Do not attach small purses, multiple keys, or heavy accessories to the driver's key chain used to start the vehicle. Excess weight on the key chain may accidentally move the inserted key to the ACC position while the Kia Seltos is in motion. This could increase the risk of an accident and may deactivate several important safety features.

Kia Seltos warning about leaving the vehicle safely in Park

WARNING

Leaving the Vehicle

To avoid unexpected or sudden vehicle movement, never leave your Kia Seltos unless the transmission is locked in P (Park) and the parking brake is fully engaged. Before leaving the driver's seat, always make sure the shift lever is in P (Park), set the parking brake completely, and turn the engine off.
