Kia Seltos: What to do in an emergency / If you have a flat tire (with spare tire)

Contents:

If your Kia Seltos has a flat tire, it may be replaced with the spare tire by using the supplied tools. Always park the vehicle safely before beginning any tire change procedure.

Kia Seltos flat tire warning with spare tire replacement instructions WARNING

Driving the Kia Seltos on a flat tire can permanently damage the tire. Re-inflating a tire that has been driven while severely underinflated or completely flat may cause a blowout and could lead to a serious crash. Never attempt to re-inflate a tire after it has been driven in this condition. Repair or replace the damaged tire as soon as possible.

Important - use of compact spare tire

Your Kia Seltos is equipped with a compact spare tire. This spare tire is smaller than a standard tire and is designed to save storage space in the vehicle. It is intended for temporary emergency use only and should not be treated as a regular replacement tire.

  • Drive carefully while the compact spare tire is installed. Replace it with the correct conventional tire and wheel as soon as possible.

  • Operating the Kia Seltos with more than one compact spare tire installed at the same time is not recommended.

Kia Seltos compact spare tire emergency use warning

WARNING

Spare tire

The compact spare tire is for emergency use only. Do not drive your Kia Seltos faster than 50 mph (80 km/h) while the compact spare is installed. The original tire should be repaired or replaced as quickly as possible to prevent failure of the spare tire, which could result in bodily injury or death.

The compact spare tire should be inflated to 60 psi (420 kPa).

Kia Seltos compact spare tire inflation pressure notice

NOTICE

After installing the spare tire, check the tire inflation pressure. Adjust it to the specified pressure whenever necessary.

When using a compact spare tire on the Kia Seltos, observe the following precautions:

  • Do not exceed 50 mph (80 km/h) under any circumstances. Higher speeds may damage the compact spare tire.

  • Drive slowly enough for road and traffic conditions. Road hazards such as potholes, stones, or debris can seriously damage the compact spare tire.

  • Continuous use of the compact spare tire may cause tire failure, loss of vehicle control, and possible personal injury.

  • Do not exceed the maximum vehicle load rating or the load-carrying capacity shown on the sidewall of the compact spare tire.

  • Avoid driving over obstacles. The compact spare tire has a smaller diameter than a conventional tire and reduces ground clearance by approximately 1 in (25 mm), which may cause damage to the Kia Seltos.

  • Do not take the vehicle through an automatic car wash while the compact spare tire is installed.

  • Do not install tire chains on the compact spare tire. Because of its smaller size, the chain may not fit correctly and could damage the vehicle or come loose.

  • Do not use the compact spare tire on another vehicle. It has been designed specifically for your Kia Seltos.

  • The tread life of a compact spare tire is shorter than that of a regular tire. Inspect it regularly and replace a worn compact spare tire with one of the same size and design, mounted on the same wheel.

  • The compact spare tire should not be used on any other wheel. Standard tires, snow tires, wheel covers, or trim rings should not be installed on the compact spare wheel. Attempting to do so may damage these parts or other vehicle components.

  • Do not use more than one compact spare tire at the same time.

  • Do not tow a trailer while the compact spare tire is installed.

  • Do not accelerate or decelerate suddenly from 0 to 25 mph (0 to 40 km/h) in any driving mode, as this may cause transfer oil leakage.

  • When using the compact spare tire, make sure the AWD Lock or AWD Auto Lock mode in the Kia Seltos is turned off.
