Kia Seltos: What to do in an emergency / Emergency starting
Contents:
If the vehicle will not start because of low battery power, the Kia Seltos may need to be jump-started using a booster battery and proper jumper cables.
Jump-starting
Connect the jumper cables in numerical order and disconnect them in the reverse order.
(Gasoline) 1.6 T-GDi
(Gasoline) 2.0 MPI
Jump-starting can be dangerous if performed incorrectly. To avoid personal injury, vehicle damage, or battery damage, follow the proper jump-starting procedure carefully. If you are unsure, have a qualified technician or towing service jump-start your Kia Seltos.
WARNING
Battery
Never attempt to check the battery electrolyte level. Doing so may cause the battery to rupture or explode.
WARNING
Frozen batteries
Do not attempt to jump-start the vehicle if the discharged battery is frozen. A frozen battery may rupture or explode.
WARNING
Battery
Keep flames, sparks, cigarettes, and other ignition sources away from the battery. The battery produces hydrogen gas, which can explode if exposed to flame or sparks.
WARNING
Battery cables
Do not connect the jumper cable directly from the negative terminal of the booster battery to the negative terminal of the discharged battery. This can cause the discharged battery to overheat, crack, or become damaged.
Connect one end of the jumper cable to the negative terminal of the booster battery and the other end to a solid metallic ground point away from the battery.
WARNING
Sulfuric acid risk
Automobile batteries contain sulfuric acid. When jump-starting your Kia Seltos, avoid contact with your skin, eyes, clothing, or vehicle surfaces. Battery acid is poisonous and highly corrosive.
Push-starting
Kia Seltos vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission cannot be push-started. If the battery is low, only jump-starting should be used. Follow the correct jump-starting procedure in this section and refer to More Details when needed.
WARNING
Tow starting vehicle
Never tow your Kia Seltos to start the engine.
When the engine starts, the vehicle may suddenly surge forward and could collide with the towing vehicle or another object.
