Kia EV6: Rear Cross-traffic Collision-avoidance Assist (RCCA): (if equipped) / Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist operation

Contents:

The Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system warns the driver and may intervene with braking assistance depending on the detected collision risk level:

  • Collision Warning

  • Emergency Braking

  • Stopping the vehicle and ending brake control

Collision Warning

The Kia EV6 collision warning function alerts the driver through a warning indicator on the outside rearview mirror, a warning message on the instrument cluster, and an audible warning sound.

The collision warning notification is also displayed on the Kia EV6 infotainment screen for additional visibility.

Collision warning operates when all of the following conditions are satisfied:

  • The gear selector is shifted to R (Reverse) while the Kia EV6 driving speed remains below 6 mph (8 km/h).

  • An approaching vehicle is detected within approximately 82 ft (25 m) from the left or right side of the Kia EV6.

  • The speed of the approaching vehicle from either side exceeds 3 mph (5 km/h).

NOTE

  • If all operating conditions are satisfied, the Kia EV6 may issue a warning even when the vehicle itself is stationary at 0 mph (0 km/h).

  • The images, warning graphics, and display colors may appear differently depending on the Kia EV6 instrument cluster type or selected theme.

Emergency Braking

A: Emergency Braking

The Kia EV6 collision warning system alerts the driver using a warning light on the outside rearview mirror, a warning message, and an audible alarm.

The collision warning also appears on the Kia EV6 infotainment display for enhanced awareness.

Emergency Braking helps reduce the risk of a collision by automatically assisting with braking when a vehicle approaches from the left or right side while reversing.

Emergency Braking operates when all of the following conditions are satisfied:

  • The gear selector is shifted into R (Reverse) while the Kia EV6 driving speed remains below 6 mph (8 km/h).

  • An approaching vehicle is approximately 5 ft (1.5 m) from the left or right side of the Kia EV6.

  • The speed of the approaching vehicle from either side is above 3 mph (5 km/h).

WARNING

Brake control ends under the following conditions:

  • The approaching vehicle leaves the Kia EV6 sensor detection range.

  • The approaching vehicle passes behind the Kia EV6.

  • The approaching vehicle is no longer moving toward the Kia EV6.

  • The approaching vehicle significantly reduces speed.

  • The driver presses the brake pedal with sufficient force.

Stopping the vehicle and ending brake control

A: Drive carefully

If Emergency Braking brings the Kia EV6 to a stop, a warning message will immediately appear on the instrument cluster to notify the driver that braking intervention has occurred.

For maximum safety, the driver should immediately press the brake pedal firmly, carefully monitor the surrounding traffic conditions, and confirm that the area behind and beside the Kia EV6 is clear before continuing to move.

  • Brake control automatically ends approximately 2 seconds after Emergency Braking stops the Kia EV6.

  • During emergency braking intervention, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist automatically cancels brake control if the driver applies the brake pedal excessively or takes direct control of the vehicle.

WARNING

  • For your safety, always adjust Kia EV6 driver assistance settings only after parking the vehicle in a secure and safe location.

  • If another system warning message or audible alert is already active, the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist warning message or warning sound in the Kia EV6 may not appear or may be delayed.

  • The warning sound of the Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system may not be heard clearly in noisy environments, crowded parking areas, or during heavy rain and traffic conditions.

  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate if the driver is already applying the brake pedal in an attempt to avoid a collision.

  • During Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist operation, the vehicle may stop abruptly, which could cause passenger movement or shift unsecured cargo. Always wear seat belts and properly secure loose items inside the vehicle.

  • Even if there is a malfunction with Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, the Kia EV6 standard braking system will continue to function normally.

WARNING

  • While the Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist function is operating, braking control will automatically cancel if the accelerator pedal is pressed excessively.

  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist cannot detect every situation and may not prevent all possible collisions.

  • Depending on road layout, weather conditions, lighting, or surrounding traffic, the Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system may issue warnings later than expected or may not warn at all.

  • The driver remains fully responsible for controlling the Kia EV6 at all times. Do not rely solely on Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist. Always maintain a safe reversing speed and apply the brake pedal whenever necessary.

  • Never depend exclusively on Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist to avoid collisions involving pedestrians, animals, bicycles, or stationary objects. Failure to drive carefully may result in serious injury or death.

WARNING

The Kia EV6 brake control system may not operate correctly depending on the condition or operation of the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system.

A warning will only appear under the following conditions:

  • The ESC warning indicator is illuminated on the Kia EV6 instrument cluster.

  • The ESC system is already controlling another vehicle stability function.

NOTE

  • If braking assistance is activated by the Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system, the driver must immediately depress the brake pedal and verify surrounding traffic conditions.

  • After shifting the Kia EV6 into R (Reverse), automatic braking control can operate once for approaching traffic from the left and once for approaching traffic from the right.
