Display and control
You can view the current operating status of Highway Driving Assist in the Driving Assist view on the Kia EV6 instrument cluster. For additional details about the display layout and related indicators, refer to the LCD display section.
|
|
The Highway Driving Assist status is shown on the Kia EV6 instrument cluster using the following information and indicators:
The Highway Driving Assist indicator, the presence of a vehicle ahead, and the selected distance level are displayed together to help the driver understand the current assistance condition.
Highway Driving Assist indicator
Green HDA: Operating state, meaning Highway Driving Assist is actively supporting lane centering, speed, and distance control.
Gray HDA: Standby state, meaning the function is available but not actively controlling all assistance functions.
White HDA blink: Accelerator depressed state, meaning the driver is temporarily overriding acceleration while the system remains in a related assistance mode.
Unlit: OFF, meaning Highway Driving Assist is not operating.
The selected set speed is displayed on the cluster.
The Lane Following Assist indicator is displayed to show lane-centering support status.
The system shows whether there is a vehicle ahead and which headway distance has been selected.
The display shows whether lane markings are detected or not detected by the Kia EV6 driver assistance system.
NOTE
For more detailed information about lane-related display indicators, refer to Lane Following Assist (LFA).
For more detailed information about speed and vehicle-distance display indicators, refer to Smart Cruise Control (SCC).
The images, indicator colors, and graphic layout may appear differently depending on the Kia EV6 instrument cluster specification, display theme, software version, or market configuration.
Turning on Highway Driving Assist
Highway Driving Assist in the Kia EV6 operates when the required road, system, and driver assistance conditions are satisfied:
When driving on an available road, press the Drive Assist button to turn on Highway Driving Assist.
When entering the main roads of highways or motorways while Smart Cruise Control is operating, Highway Driving Assist will not turn on if Lane Following Assist is turned off.
For the most stable operation, use Highway Driving Assist only on supported highways where lane markings are visible and traffic conditions allow safe driver assistance operation.
Restarting after stopping
|
|
When Highway Driving Assist is operating, the Kia EV6 can stop if the vehicle ahead stops. If the vehicle ahead
begins moving again within 30 seconds after the stop, your vehicle may also start moving automatically. If the
Kia
EV6 remains stopped for more than 30 seconds, a message appears on the cluster. To resume driving, press the
accelerator pedal or operate the (+) switch, (-) switch, or (
) switch.
Before restarting, always confirm that the road ahead is clear and that it is safe to move forward.
Hands-off warning
|
|
If the driver removes their hands from the steering wheel for several seconds, a warning message appears and an audible warning sounds in stages. The Kia EV6 uses this warning to remind the driver that Highway Driving Assist is not an autonomous driving system and that the driver must remain engaged.
First stage: Warning message appears on the cluster.
Second stage: Warning message appears with a red steering wheel symbol, and an audible warning sounds.
If the driver continues to keep their hands off the steering wheel, Emergency Stop may activate. For more information, refer to Emergency Stop (ES).
|
|
If the driver still does not place their hands on the steering wheel after the hands-off warning, another warning message appears and Highway Driving Assist is automatically canceled.
Driving to one side within lane: (if equipped)
|
When the Kia EV6 is traveling above 37 mph (60 km/h), and a nearby vehicle is driving very close to one side of your vehicle, the system may assist steering slightly toward the opposite side of the lane to support safer driving. If vehicles are close on both sides of the lane, the function will not intentionally move the vehicle toward either side.
This feature is designed only to provide assistance within the lane and does not replace the driver’s responsibility to maintain a safe lateral distance from surrounding vehicles.
Highway Driving Assist standby
If Smart Cruise Control is temporarily canceled while Highway Driving Assist is operating, Highway Driving Assist switches to standby, while Lane Following Assist continues to operate if its required conditions remain satisfied.
NOTE
Driving Speed Limit helps the Kia EV6 remain below 40 mph (60 km/h). During this condition, the vehicle decelerates because of the vehicle ahead. After the vehicle has slowed down, it cannot automatically accelerate again until the required conditions are restored.
Driving Speed Limit is canceled in the following circumstances:
When the driver holds the steering wheel again.
When the driver turns on Lane Following Assist by pressing the Lane Driving Assist button
(
).
When the driver operates the (+), (-), or (
) switch or
(
)
button, or presses the accelerator or brake pedal.
Even when Highway Driving Assist is active, the driver of the Kia EV6 must continuously monitor traffic, lane markings, speed, and the behavior of nearby vehicles.
