Emergency Steering
|
A: Emergency Steering |
If the collision risk increases during a lane-change maneuver, the Kia EV6 Emergency Steering function may provide steering assistance to help avoid a side collision.
To notify the driver that steering assistance will be activated, the emergency steering warning light (
) will blink while warning messages appear on the
instrument cluster, audible alerts sound, and steering wheel vibration activates.
The outside rear-view mirror warning indicator will illuminate whenever the Kia EV6 detects vehicles approaching from the rear in adjacent lanes.
The Kia EV6 steering assist system may intervene automatically to help guide the vehicle away from a potential side collision.
Emergency Steering may activate under the following approximate conditions:
Your Kia EV6 driving speed is approximately 25–90 mph (40–145 km/h)
The speed of the approaching lane-changing vehicle or powered two-wheeler is within the detectable operating range of the Kia EV6 sensor system.
The Kia EV6 Lane-Change Side Emergency Steering function is especially helpful during highway lane changes, dense urban traffic, and situations involving fast-approaching vehicles in blind-spot areas.
WARNING
The Kia EV6 Lane-Change Side function does not operate if the approaching vehicle or powered two-wheeler is completely stopped.
The operating detection range of the Kia EV6 front-corner radar and rear-corner radar systems is based on standard lane widths used on ordinary roads.
On narrow roads, the system may incorrectly detect vehicles or powered two-wheelers driving in adjacent lanes and trigger unnecessary warnings.
On unusually wide roads, the Kia EV6 radar sensors may fail to recognize vehicles traveling farther away in neighboring lanes, which could prevent warnings from activating.
The Kia EV6 Lane-Change Side function automatically deactivates under the following conditions:
The vehicle has already moved a certain distance into the adjacent lane.
The Kia EV6 moves away from the direction where the collision risk exists.
The steering wheel is turned abruptly or aggressively.
The brake pedal is pressed by the driver.
The Kia EV6 Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system activates another emergency control function.
After the Kia EV6 Lane-Change Side function activates, or after completing a lane change, always reposition the vehicle toward the center of the lane.
If the Kia EV6 continues driving too close to the lane edge, the Lane-Change Side function may deactivate automatically.
NOTE
If the Kia EV6 determines that an additional collision risk may occur during Emergency Steering intervention, the system may provide only a collision warning instead of steering assistance.
On left-hand drive Kia EV6 vehicles, collision warnings may occasionally activate while turning left in certain traffic situations.
On right-hand drive Kia EV6 vehicles, collision warnings may occasionally activate while turning right under specific traffic conditions.
Environmental conditions such as heavy rain, snow, fog, or dirty radar sensors may temporarily reduce the effectiveness of the Kia EV6 Lane-Change Side detection system.
