Kia EV6: Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist operation / Evasive Steering Assist function: (if equipped)

The Kia EV6 Evasive Steering Assist function is part of the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system and is designed to help reduce the risk of collisions through intelligent steering intervention.

The Evasive Steering Assist function in the Kia EV6 provides the following emergency assistance feature:

  • Emergency Steering

A: Emergency Steering

The Kia EV6 Emergency Steering Driver Assist function can alert the driver using multiple warning methods when a possible collision risk is detected.

The Emergency Steering warning light (Kia EV6 Emergency Steering warning indicator icon) will blink while a warning message appears on the instrument cluster, an audible warning sounds, and steering wheel vibration activates.

If the Kia EV6 detects a possible collision with another vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist, or motorcyclist ahead, the Emergency Steering Driver Assist system may provide steering assistance to help the driver avoid or reduce collision impact.

This advanced Kia EV6 safety technology works together with radar sensors, front cameras, and steering control systems to support emergency avoidance maneuvers during critical driving situations.

Emergency Steering Driver Assist may activate under the following approximate conditions:

  • Your Kia EV6 driving speed is approximately 25–53 mph (40–85 km/h)

The Kia EV6 Evasive Steering Assist system is especially useful during urban driving, highway traffic, and situations where sudden obstacle avoidance is necessary.

The Kia EV6 Evasive Steering Assist function can also activate automatically when the risk of a collision with a pedestrian, cyclist, or motorcyclist ahead becomes critical.

The system alerts the driver using the Emergency Steering warning light (Kia EV6 Evasive Steering Assist warning symbol), warning messages, audible alerts, and steering wheel vibration.

If the Kia EV6 has already exceeded the operating speed range for Emergency Braking, the Evasive Steering Assist function may intervene automatically to help avoid a collision through steering assistance.

The system continuously evaluates surrounding traffic conditions, lane markings, available road space, and nearby obstacles before initiating steering intervention.

Emergency Steering Evasive Assist may activate under the following approximate conditions:

  • Your Kia EV6 driving speed is approximately 40–47 mph (65–75 km/h)

The detected pedestrian or cyclist must be moving either in the same direction as the Kia EV6 or approaching from the opposite direction.

Additionally, the system requires sufficient available space for the Kia EV6 to perform a safe evasive steering maneuver.

However, the Evasive Steering Assist function may not operate correctly for pedestrians or cyclists moving horizontally across the roadway.

The Kia EV6 uses intelligent sensor fusion technology to determine whether steering intervention can be safely performed without creating an additional collision risk.

CAUTION

  • While the Kia EV6 Emergency Steering system is operating, the steering wheel may move automatically without additional driver input.

  • The Kia EV6 Evasive Steering Assist function automatically ends once collision risk conditions disappear. The driver should adjust steering input as necessary after system intervention.

  • Emergency Steering assistance may deactivate during operation if the steering wheel is held too firmly or if the driver steers strongly in the opposite direction.

  • When the Kia EV6 steering assist system intervenes to avoid collisions with vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, or motorcyclists, the Evasive Steering Assist function may deactivate if additional potential collision risks are detected nearby.

  • The Kia EV6 Evasive Steering Assist system may not operate if there is insufficient road space available to perform a safe avoidance maneuver.

  • During nighttime driving, the Kia EV6 detection capability for motorcycles and powered two-wheelers may be reduced. Under low-visibility conditions, the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system may operate with temporary limitations or reduced effectiveness.

  • Heavy rain, snow, fog, dirty sensors, or poor road markings may temporarily affect the operating performance of the Kia EV6 Evasive Steering Assist system.

NOTE

For additional details regarding Kia EV6 warning notifications and system alerts, refer to the Collision Warning section of this manual.

WARNING

  • For maximum safety, always adjust Kia EV6 Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist settings only after parking the vehicle in a safe and secure location.

  • The Kia EV6 Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system does not operate in every driving situation and cannot prevent all accidents or collisions.

  • The driver remains fully responsible for controlling the Kia EV6 at all times. Do not rely entirely on the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system.

Always maintain a safe following distance, pay close attention to surrounding traffic conditions, and manually apply the brake pedal whenever necessary to reduce vehicle speed or stop the vehicle safely.

  • Never intentionally drive the Kia EV6 toward pedestrians, vehicles, obstacles, or any other objects in an attempt to test the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system.

Doing so may result in severe injury, vehicle damage, or death.

  • The Kia EV6 Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system may not operate correctly if the driver is already manually braking to avoid a collision.

  • Depending on road conditions, traffic flow, weather, visibility, or surrounding environments, the Kia EV6 Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system may provide warnings late or may not provide warnings at all.

  • During Kia EV6 Emergency Braking operation, the vehicle may stop abruptly.

Sudden deceleration may cause unsecured cargo or loose objects inside the vehicle to shift unexpectedly and potentially injure occupants.

Always wear seat belts and properly secure all loose items inside the Kia EV6.

  • The Kia EV6 Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system may not display warning messages or generate audible alerts if another driver assistance system warning message or warning sound is already active at the same time.

  • The audible warning sounds of the Kia EV6 Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system may be difficult to hear in noisy surroundings or while loud audio systems are operating.

  • Depending on road surface conditions, weather conditions, sensor visibility, or nearby environmental factors, the Kia EV6 Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system may temporarily turn OFF, operate unnecessarily, or function improperly.

  • Even if the Kia EV6 Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system experiences a malfunction, the vehicle’s normal braking performance will continue to operate.

  • Kia EV6 Emergency Braking intervention initiated by the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system may automatically end if the driver applies strong braking force or rapidly turns the steering wheel.

  • Heavy rain, snow, fog, dirty sensors, or direct sunlight may temporarily reduce the detection capability of the Kia EV6 driver assistance systems.

CAUTION

  • The surrounding driving environment may affect the operating speed range and detection capability of the Kia EV6 Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system, which could temporarily limit or disable system operation.

  • The Kia EV6 Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system evaluates the direction, speed, distance, and surrounding traffic conditions of oncoming vehicles when determining collision risk levels.

  • The Kia EV6 system may not activate if the vehicle is traveling at very high speeds or when there is a significant speed difference between your vehicle and surrounding traffic.

  • If the Kia EV6 determines that an additional collision risk may occur during emergency steering intervention, the Lane-Change Oncoming, Lane-Change Side, and Evasive Steering Assist functions may provide only warning notifications without steering assistance. : (if equipped)

  • Radar sensors and front cameras on the Kia EV6 should always be kept clean and unobstructed to ensure proper system performance.

NOTE

  • If a collision becomes imminent, the Kia EV6 Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system may automatically provide additional brake assist even if the driver is already braking, provided the braking force is insufficient to avoid the collision.

  • The appearance of warning images, icons, graphics, or colors displayed on the Kia EV6 instrument cluster or infotainment screen may vary depending on cluster specifications, display themes, software versions, or regional vehicle configuration.

  • Certain Kia EV6 Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist functions may operate differently depending on vehicle trim level, installed equipment, and regional market specifications.
