Kia EV6: Maintenance / Brake Fluid

Contents:

Brake fluid transfers hydraulic pressure whenever the brake pedal is applied. Maintaining the correct brake fluid condition and level is essential for ensuring smooth, responsive, and reliable braking performance in the Kia EV6.

The brake fluid should be inspected regularly and serviced according to the recommended maintenance schedule. Periodic maintenance helps maintain optimal operation of both the hydraulic braking system and the regenerative braking functions used by the Kia EV6.

Always use brake fluid that meets Kia specifications and DOT 4 requirements to ensure proper braking performance and long-term system reliability.

Checking the Brake Fluid Level

The brake fluid level in your Kia EV6 should be inspected regularly as part of routine maintenance. Maintaining the correct fluid level is essential for consistent braking performance, proper pedal feel, and reliable operation of both the hydraulic and regenerative braking systems.

The fluid level inside the reservoir should always remain between the MAX and MIN markings located on the side of the reservoir.

Kia EV6 brake fluid reservoir inspection and fluid level check
  1. Before removing the reservoir cap, thoroughly clean the surrounding area to prevent dirt, dust, moisture, or other contaminants from entering the brake hydraulic system of the Kia EV6.

    CAUTION

    Proper Fluid

Only approved brake fluid should be used in the brake system. Even small amounts of incorrect fluid can damage internal brake components, reduce braking efficiency, and lead to costly repairs.

  2. Inspect the brake fluid reservoir periodically and verify that the fluid remains between the MIN and MAX marks. As the Kia EV6 accumulates mileage, a gradual reduction in fluid level is normal and usually occurs because of brake-pad wear.

If the brake fluid level drops excessively or unusually quickly, have the braking system inspected by an authorized Kia dealer immediately.

Always use the specified brake fluid recommended for the Kia EV6. Refer to the Recommended Lubricants and Capacities section for the correct specification.

Never mix different brands or types of brake fluid, as doing so may compromise braking performance and damage system components.

If frequent topping-up of brake fluid becomes necessary, the Kia EV6 should be professionally inspected because this may indicate a leak or another brake-system issue.

When handling brake fluid, use care to avoid contact with your eyes, skin, and painted vehicle surfaces. If brake fluid comes into contact with your eyes, immediately flush them with large amounts of clean water and seek medical attention without delay.

CAUTION

Brake Fluid

Do not allow brake fluid to contact painted surfaces of the Kia EV6. Brake fluid may damage paintwork and exterior finishes.

Brake fluid that has been exposed to open air for an extended period should never be reused because moisture contamination can significantly reduce its effectiveness. Dispose of old fluid properly according to local regulations.
