Even in vehicles equipped with advanced airbag systems such as the Kia EV6, all occupants must always wear the provided seat belts correctly. Seat belts and airbags are engineered to operate together in order to minimize the severity of injuries during a collision, rollover, or sudden impact.
The airbag system in the Kia EV6 becomes active only when the EV button is in the POWER ON or DRIVE READY position. In certain situations, the airbags may still deploy for approximately three minutes after the vehicle has been switched OFF.
During a severe frontal or side collision, the appropriate airbags in the Kia EV6 inflate instantly to help protect occupants from serious physical injuries.
There is no single collision speed that automatically triggers airbag deployment. The Kia EV6 airbag system evaluates several factors including crash severity, impact direction, vehicle deceleration, and sensor data before determining whether deployment is necessary.
Airbags do not deploy in every collision. Deployment depends on numerous conditions such as impact angle, vehicle speed, object stiffness, collision type, and overall crash dynamics. The determining factors are not limited to those listed above.
The front airbags in the Kia EV6 inflate and deflate extremely quickly during a collision event. In most cases, occupants will not actually see the airbags deploy but will instead notice the deflated airbags after the accident has occurred.
In addition to deploying during severe side impacts, the side and curtain airbags in the Kia EV6 may also inflate if the rollover detection system senses a potential rollover situation.
The curtain airbags are designed to remain inflated for a longer period of time in order to provide additional protection against occupant ejection, especially when used together with properly fastened seat belts.
To deliver effective protection, the airbags in the Kia EV6 must deploy with extremely high speed. The airbags inflate between the occupant and the interior vehicle structure before body contact occurs. This rapid deployment helps reduce the risk of life-threatening injuries, although the force of inflation itself may cause abrasions, bruising, or fractures.
In certain situations, contact with the steering wheel airbag or passenger airbag in the Kia EV6 may result in severe or fatal injuries, particularly if an occupant is seated excessively close to the airbag deployment area.
WARNING
Airbag Inflation
Always sit as far back as practical from the steering wheel while still maintaining safe and comfortable control of the Kia EV6. A minimum distance of approximately 25 cm (10 inches) between the driver’s chest and the steering wheel is strongly recommended. Sitting too close to the airbag may increase the risk of serious injury during deployment.
Kia EV6 2022-2026 Owner's Manual: Parking Distance Warning (PDW): (if equipped)
The Kia EV6 Forward, Side, and Reverse Parking Distance Warning system uses ultrasonic sensors located around the vehicle to detect nearby people, animals, or objects while the vehicle is stationary or moving at low speed. This advanced Kia EV6 parking assistance technology helps improve parking precision and driver awareness in tight spaces, garages, and crowded urban environments. When the Kia EV6 external fresh air mode is selected, outside air enters the cabin and is heated or cooled according to the selected climate settings. The indicator light switches OFF in this mode. Recirculated air intake In recirculation mode, air from inside the Kia EV6 cabin is drawn through the climate control system and heated or cooled according to the selected settings.
