Kia EV6: Air bag - advanced supplemental restraint system / Precautions

To reduce the risk of severe or fatal injuries and to receive the maximum safety benefit from the restraint systems installed in the Kia EV6:

• Never place an infant, child, or booster seat in the front passenger seat of the Kia EV6.

• In the event of a collision, deployment of the front passenger airbag may cause serious injury or death to a child seated in the front position.

• Children aged 13 and younger must always ride in the rear seats of the Kia EV6 and be properly restrained using an appropriate child restraint system or seat belt.

• If a child older than 13 must ride in the front passenger seat, the seat belt must be properly fastened and the seat should be positioned as far rearward as possible.

• Children seated in the rear outboard seating positions of the Kia EV6 should always use a suitable child restraint system designed for their age, height, and weight.

• ABC — Always Buckle Children in the back seat. The rear seating area remains the safest location for children of all ages when traveling in the Kia EV6.

• For maximum protection during all types of collisions, every occupant including the driver should wear a properly fastened seat belt at all times, regardless of whether airbags are installed at their seating position.

• Do not sit unnecessarily close to the airbag modules while the Kia EV6 is in motion. Airbags deploy with tremendous force and require adequate space to operate safely.

• The SRS airbag system in the Kia EV6 deploys extremely rapidly during an accident to provide protection. Occupants who are not properly restrained may be struck forcefully by a deploying airbag, which could result in serious injuries or fatalities.

• Front and side airbags may injure occupants who are sitting improperly or out of position in the front seats of the Kia EV6.

• Adjust the driver and front passenger seats as far back as practical while still maintaining safe and comfortable control of the vehicle.

• Improper seating posture may result in serious injury or death during a crash. All occupants should sit upright with the seatback in an upright position, centered on the seat cushion, with seat belts fastened securely, feet resting on the floor, and legs comfortably extended until the Kia EV6 is fully parked.

• To minimize the possibility of severe injury caused by airbag deployment, the driver should maintain as much distance as practical from the steering wheel airbag while maintaining full control of the Kia EV6.

• The front passenger should always sit upright with the seat positioned as far rearward as possible from the dashboard airbag module.

• Do not allow passengers to lean their heads or bodies against the doors, rest their arms on the doors, extend their arms outside the windows, or place objects between themselves and the door panels when seated in positions equipped with side or curtain airbags.

• For maximum effectiveness of the side airbag system in the Kia EV6, both front occupants should remain seated upright with seat belts properly fastened throughout the drive.

• No objects such as dashboard covers, mobile phone holders, beverage containers, decorative accessories, perfume bottles, or stickers should be placed near the steering wheel, instrument panel, windshield area, or front passenger airbag modules. During airbag deployment, these items may become dangerous projectiles and cause additional injuries.

• Never place any objects between yourself and the airbag modules in the Kia EV6.

• Do not insert or place objects into openings near side airbag labels attached to the vehicle seats. Interference with airbag deployment areas may lead to unexpected injuries or malfunction during a collision.

• When installing liquid air fresheners inside the Kia EV6 cabin, avoid placing them near the instrument cluster, dashboard surface, or airbag deployment zones. In the event of airbag activation, these containers may become airborne and cause injury.

Do not place any objects over the airbag modules or between yourself and the airbag deployment areas inside the Kia EV6. Additionally, never attach accessories or place items near locations where the airbags inflate, including the doors, side window glass, front pillars, rear pillars, or roof rail areas. During deployment, loose objects may become dangerous projectiles and increase the risk of severe injury.

• For safety reasons, avoid hanging heavy bags, clothing, or other large objects on the coat hooks inside the Kia EV6 cabin, as these items could become hazardous during sudden braking or collisions.

If the SRS airbag warning indicator in the Kia EV6 remains illuminated while driving, immediately have the vehicle inspected and repaired by an authorized Kia dealer. An illuminated warning light may indicate a malfunction within the supplemental restraint system.

Airbags are designed for single-use deployment only. After any airbag deployment in the Kia EV6, all related components must be replaced and inspected by an authorized Kia dealer before the vehicle is driven again.

Keep all SRS system wiring, sensors, and components away from water or liquids. Exposure to moisture may damage the airbag system in the Kia EV6 and could result in electrical malfunction, fire, or serious personal injury.

If the Kia EV6 has been flooded or if water has soaked the carpeting or floor panels, do not attempt to start the vehicle. In this situation, contact an authorized Kia dealer for a complete inspection. When cleaning the airbag pad covers, use only a soft dry cloth or a cloth lightly moistened with clean water. Harsh chemicals, solvents, or cleaning agents may damage the airbag covers and interfere with proper airbag deployment.

Airbag deployment in the Kia EV6 may cause certain minor or serious injuries, including facial abrasions, skin irritation, burns, or injuries caused by broken eyeglasses or loose objects inside the cabin.

After deployment, airbag-related components located in the steering wheel, instrument panel, roof rails, and side curtain airbag areas may become extremely hot. To avoid burns or additional injury, do not touch the airbag storage compartments or nearby internal parts immediately after the airbags inflate.

Front and side airbags in the Kia EV6 may cause serious injury to occupants who are seated improperly or positioned too close to the airbag deployment zones.

Under certain collision conditions, there is a possibility that the driver’s airbag, front passenger airbag, side airbag, or curtain airbag in the Kia EV6 may not deploy as expected if the sensors or vehicle structure have been damaged or altered.

To help prevent unexpected side airbag deployment that could result in personal injury, avoid striking or applying force near the side impact sensor areas while the EV button is in the POWER ON or DRIVE READY position, and for approximately three minutes after the Kia EV6 has been switched OFF.

Do not strike, modify, or allow objects to impact the locations where airbags or airbag sensors are installed in the Kia EV6. Damage to these areas could trigger unintended airbag deployment or prevent the airbags from operating correctly during a collision.

If the installation position, angle, or alignment of the airbag sensors is altered in any way, the airbags in the Kia EV6 may deploy unexpectedly or may fail to deploy when required. This could result in severe injury or death. Never attempt maintenance or repairs near the airbag sensor locations yourself. Always consult an authorized Kia dealer for professional service.

Never tamper with, disconnect, or modify any wiring, sensors, or components associated with the SRS system in the Kia EV6. This includes attaching decorative badges, covers, or accessories to airbag panels or altering the body structure of the vehicle. Unauthorized modifications may negatively affect airbag performance and increase the risk of injury.

If airbag components or the Kia EV6 itself must be disposed of or scrapped, important safety precautions must be followed. Airbags and seat belt pretensioners can present a fire or explosion hazard if removed incorrectly. Authorized Kia dealers are trained to safely handle and dispose of SRS components and can provide the necessary guidance and procedures.
