Kia Seltos: Child Restraint System (CRS) / Installing a CRS

Contents:

After selecting the correct child seat for your child, check that it fits properly in the Kia Seltos seating position where it will be used.

Follow all instructions provided by the child restraint manufacturer when installing the seat. These general steps can help when installing a CRS in your Kia Seltos:

  • Properly secure the child restraint to the vehicle. All child restraints must be attached using the lap portion of a lap/shoulder belt or the Lower Anchors and Tether for Children (LATCH) system.

  • Make sure the child restraint is firmly secured. After installation, push and pull the CRS forward and from side to side to confirm that it is attached securely to the seat. A child restraint installed with a seat belt should be as firm as possible, although slight side-to-side movement can be expected.

  • Secure the child correctly in the child restraint. Make sure the harness, buckle, chest clip, and straps are positioned and tightened according to the child restraint manufacturer's instructions.

Before every trip, recheck the CRS installation and make sure the child is properly restrained. A correctly installed child seat is an essential part of safe family travel in the Kia Seltos.

LATCH system

The LATCH system helps secure a child restraint in the Kia Seltos during normal driving and in the event of an accident. This system is designed to make child seat installation easier and to reduce the risk of incorrect installation. It uses built-in vehicle anchors together with matching attachments on the child restraint, so the child seat can be secured to the rear seat without using the vehicle seat belt.

Lower anchors are metal bars built into the vehicle structure. Each LATCH seating position has two lower anchors designed to accept a child restraint equipped with lower anchor attachments.

To use the LATCH system in your Kia Seltos, the child restraint must be equipped with compatible LATCH attachments.

The child seat manufacturer will provide specific instructions for connecting the child restraint attachments to the LATCH lower anchors. Always follow those instructions carefully, along with the safety information in the Kia Seltos owner's manual.

Kia Seltos LATCH child restraint anchor locations in the rear outboard seats

LATCH anchors are provided in the left and right rear outboard seating positions of the Kia Seltos. Their locations are shown in the illustration. LATCH anchors are not provided for the center rear seating position.

WARNING

LATCH lower anchors

Never attempt to attach a LATCH-equipped child seat in the center rear seating position. The LATCH lower anchors are designed only for the left and right rear outboard seating positions. Installing a LATCH child restraint in the center position may damage the anchors or cause them to fail during a collision.

The lower anchor position indicator symbols are located on the left and right rear seatbacks to help identify the location of the lower anchors in the Kia Seltos. Refer to the arrows shown in the illustration.

  2. Lower Anchor

The LATCH anchors are located between the seatback and the seat cushion in the left and right rear outboard seating positions.

To access and use the lower anchor, push the upper portion of the lower anchor cover. After installation, always check that the child restraint is firmly secured and does not contact nearby seat belt buckles.

Kia Seltos SP2 (2021-2026) Owner's Manual: Engine coolant

The Kia Seltos high-pressure cooling system uses a reservoir filled with year-round antifreeze coolant. This coolant is installed at the factory and is designed to help protect the engine from overheating, freezing, and internal corrosion. Check the antifreeze protection and coolant level at least once a year, preferably at the beginning of the winter season, and before driving the Kia Seltos to a colder climate.

Kia Seltos SP2 (2021-2026) Owner's Manual: Smart key immobilizer system

The Kia Seltos smart key immobilizer system helps protect the vehicle from theft. If an incorrectly coded key or an unauthorized electronic device is used, the vehicle's power system may be disabled and the engine may not start. When the ENGINE START/STOP button is placed in the ON position, the immobilizer system indicator should illuminate briefly and then turn off.
