Kia Seltos: Infotainment system / How vehicle radio works
Contents:
FM reception
AM and FM radio signals are broadcast from transmitter towers located around your city or region. These signals are received by the antenna on the Kia Seltos, processed by the radio unit, and then sent to the vehicle speakers.
In some cases, the radio signal received by the Kia Seltos may not be strong or clear.
This can happen because of distance from the radio station, interference from nearby strong radio stations, or obstacles such as buildings, bridges, hills, tunnels, or other large structures in the area.
AM reception
AM broadcasts can often be received over greater distances than FM broadcasts. This is because AM radio waves are transmitted at lower frequencies and can travel farther.
These long-distance, low-frequency radio waves can follow the curvature of the earth instead of traveling only in a straight line. They can also bend around certain obstructions, which helps provide wider signal coverage for the Kia Seltos radio system.
FM radio station
FM broadcasts are transmitted at high frequencies and do not bend to follow the earth's surface. Because of this, FM broadcasts usually begin to fade within a relatively short distance from the station. FM signals can also be affected by buildings, mountains, bridges, and other large obstructions. These conditions may create poor listening quality, even when the Kia Seltos radio system is operating normally.
The following conditions are normal and do not indicate a radio malfunction:
-
Fading - As the Kia Seltos moves farther away from the radio station, the signal becomes weaker and the sound may begin to fade. When this occurs, select another station with a stronger signal.
-
Flutter/Static - Weak FM signals or large obstructions between the transmitter and the vehicle radio can disturb the signal, causing static or fluttering sounds. Reducing the treble level may help lessen this effect until the disturbance clears.
-
Station Swapping - As an FM signal weakens, a stronger signal near the same frequency may begin to play. This happens because the radio is designed to lock onto the clearest available signal. If this occurs, select another station with better reception.
-
Multi-Path Cancellation - Radio signals received from several directions may cause distortion or fluttering. This can happen when direct and reflected signals from the same station reach the antenna at different times, or when signals from two nearby frequencies overlap. If this occurs, select another station until the condition has passed.
CAUTION
When using a communication system, such as a mobile phone or radio set, inside the Kia Seltos, a separate external antenna must be fitted. If a mobile phone or radio set is used only with its internal antenna, it may interfere with the vehicle's electrical system and negatively affect safe operation.
WARNING
Mobile phone use
Do not use a mobile phone while driving. Stop the Kia Seltos in a safe location before using a mobile phone.
WARNING
Distracted driving
Driving while distracted can result in loss of vehicle control, which may lead to an accident, serious injury, or death. The driver's primary responsibility is the safe and legal operation of the vehicle. Do not use handheld devices, equipment, or vehicle systems in any way that takes your eyes, attention, or focus away from driving the Kia Seltos safely.
