Kia Seltos: Features of your vehicle / Hood
Contents:
The hood covers the engine compartment of the Kia Seltos. Open the hood when inspection, maintenance, fluid checks, or other engine compartment work is required. Always open and secure the hood correctly before performing any work near the engine area.
Opening the hood
-
Pull the hood release lever inside the vehicle to unlatch the hood. The hood should rise slightly.
NOTICE
Open the hood only after turning off the engine, parking the Kia Seltos on a flat surface, shifting the gear selector to P (Park), and applying the parking brake.
-
Move to the front of the vehicle, raise the hood slightly, push the secondary hood release lever (1) sideways, and lift the hood (2).
-
Pull out the hood support rod from its holder.
-
Insert the support rod securely into the designated hole to hold the hood open.
WARNING
HOT parts
When the engine is hot, grasp the support rod only by the area wrapped in rubber. The rubber covering helps protect your hand from burns caused by heated metal parts in the Kia Seltos engine compartment.
Hood open warning
A warning message will appear on the Kia Seltos LCD display when the hood is open or not fully latched. This reminder helps the driver notice the condition before the vehicle is driven.
If the Kia Seltos is driven above 4 mph (7 km/h) while the hood remains open, a warning chime will sound. Stop the vehicle safely and check that the hood is fully closed before continuing.
Closing the hood
-
Before closing the hood, check the following:
-
All filler caps in the Kia Seltos engine compartment must be correctly installed and tightened.
-
Gloves, rags, tools, paper, or any other combustible material must be removed from the engine compartment.
-
-
Lower the hood halfway, approximately 12 in (30 cm), and then push it down firmly so it locks securely in place.
-
Check that the hood has engaged properly before driving the Kia Seltos.
-
If the hood can be raised slightly, it is not properly latched.
-
Open it again and close it with a little more force until it locks correctly.
-
CAUTION
Hood obstruction
Before closing the hood, make sure all obstructions are removed from the hood opening. Closing the hood with an object in the way may cause personal injury or property damage.
WARNING
Fire risk
Do not leave gloves, rags, paper, or any other combustible material in the motor compartment of the Kia Seltos. Heat from the engine or surrounding components may cause a fire.
WARNING
Unsecured hood
Always double-check that the hood is firmly latched before driving away. If the hood is not secured, it could fly open while the Kia Seltos is being driven, blocking visibility and possibly causing an accident.
