Kia Seltos: ENGINE START/STOP button / ENGINE START/STOP button position

Contents:

Your Kia Seltos is equipped with four different ignition positions for the ENGINE START/STOP button. These positions allow the driver to control accessory power, check vehicle systems, and start or stop the engine safely.

OFF

To turn off the engine while the Kia Seltos is in the START/RUN position, or to switch off vehicle power from the ON position, press the ENGINE START/STOP button with the shift lever placed in P (Park). If the ENGINE START/STOP button is pressed while the shift lever is not in P (Park), the button will not move to the OFF position. Instead, it will change to the ACC position.

CAUTION

If the Kia Seltos is still moving and you need to restart the vehicle:

ACC (Accessory)

Press the ENGINE START/STOP button while it is in the OFF position without pressing the brake pedal.

In the ACC position, the steering wheel unlocks and electrical accessories become available. This allows certain Kia Seltos features to be used without starting the engine.

If the ENGINE START/STOP button remains in the ACC position for more than 1 hour, the system turns off automatically to help prevent battery discharge.

ON

Press the ENGINE START/STOP button while it is in the ACC position without pressing the brake pedal.

In the ON position, the warning lights and vehicle systems can be checked before the engine is started. Do not leave the ENGINE START/STOP button in the ON position for a long time while the engine is not running, because the battery may discharge.

START/RUN

To start the engine, press the brake pedal and then press the ENGINE START/STOP button with the shift lever in P (Park) or N (Neutral). For normal starting, it is recommended to start the Kia Seltos with the shift lever in P (Park).

Kia Seltos ENGINE START STOP button safety warnings

WARNING

  • Never press the ENGINE START/STOP button while the vehicle is moving, except in an emergency. Doing so can cause loss of steering control and braking assistance, which may result in an accident.

  • Before leaving the driver's seat, always make sure the shift lever is in P (Park), fully apply the parking brake, and turn the engine off. If these precautions are not followed, the Kia Seltos may move unexpectedly and suddenly.

  • Never reach for the ENGINE START/STOP button or any other control through the steering wheel spokes while the vehicle is moving. Placing your hand or arm in this area may cause loss of vehicle control, an accident, serious injury, or death.

  • Do not place movable objects around the driver's seat. Such items may shift while driving, interfere with the driver or pedals, and increase the risk of an accident.
