Kia Seltos: Maintenance / Engine oil and filter
Contents:
Changing the engine oil and filter
Have the engine oil and oil filter changed by an authorized Kia dealer according to the Maintenance Schedule listed at the beginning of this chapter. This applies to Kia Seltos models equipped with the (Gasoline) 2.0 MPI engine.
For Kia Seltos models equipped with the Smartstream G1.6 T-GDi engine, the lubrication, rust prevention, cooling, and cleaning performance of the engine oil gradually decreases during use. Have the engine oil and filter replaced by an authorized Kia dealer according to the Engine Oil Life Management System instructions or the maintenance schedule.
-
If the scheduled engine oil replacement interval is exceeded, the oil may deteriorate and engine condition may be affected. Replace the engine oil according to the proper Kia Seltos maintenance schedule.
-
To keep the engine in optimal condition, use the recommended engine oil and oil filter. If the recommended engine oil and filter are not used, follow the maintenance schedule for severe usage conditions.
-
The maintenance schedule for engine oil replacement is designed to prevent oil deterioration. It does not replace regular oil level checks, because engine oil consumption can occur during normal operation. Check and refill engine oil regularly.
WARNING
Used engine oil
Used engine oil may cause skin irritation and may increase the risk of skin cancer if it remains in contact with the skin for long periods. Used engine oil contains chemicals that have caused cancer in laboratory animals. Always protect your skin and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water as soon as possible after handling used oil. Keep used engine oil out of the reach of children.
NOTICE
For Smartstream G1.6 T-GDi engine
When engine oil pressure becomes low because of insufficient engine oil, the Engine Oil Pressure (
) warning light will appear.
If the Kia Seltos continues to be driven in this condition, the enhanced engine protection system may activate and limit engine power. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (
) may also appear.
Once the correct engine oil pressure is restored, the Engine Oil Pressure warning light and the enhanced engine protection system will turn off after the engine is restarted.
CAUTION
Engine oil can be extremely hot immediately after the vehicle has been driven and may cause burns during replacement. Allow the engine oil to cool before changing it or performing related service work.
NOTICE
Never add aftermarket additives to the engine oil. Engine oil additives can alter the oil's properties and may cause serious engine failure. For reliable Kia Seltos engine protection, use only the recommended engine oil specification.
