For your safety, it is essential to clear any frost, ice, or moisture from the windshield to ensure maximum visibility while operating your Kia K4.
WARNING
Windshield heating
Do not use the
or
setting while running the air conditioner (A/C) in extremely humid weather conditions. A significant temperature differential between the outside air and the glass surface can cause fog to form on the *outer* side of the windshield, which may severely obscure your vision and increase the risk of an accident. In such conditions, set the airflow mode to
and keep the fan speed at its lowest setting.
For the most efficient defrosting, adjust the Kia K4 temperature control to its maximum heat setting and set the fan speed to its highest level.
If you prefer warm air in the footwell while simultaneously clearing the glass, set the Kia K4 climate mode to the floor-defrost position.
Before you begin your trip, thoroughly clear all snow and ice from the windshield, rear window, sideview mirrors, and all side windows of your Kia K4.
To improve heater and defroster efficiency and help prevent interior fogging, clear all snow and ice buildup from the hood and the air inlet vents located in the Kia K4 front grille.
The Kia K4 features an advanced AUTO defogging system that continuously monitors the cabin for moisture buildup on the interior surface of the windshield. By proactively detecting humidity levels, the Kia K4 system works to significantly reduce the likelihood of fogging, ensuring you always maintain a clear view of the road.
|
The Kia K4 AUTO defogging system is designed to function whenever your heating or air conditioning (A/C) system is currently active. When the system is engaged, the AUTO defogging indicator will illuminate on your dashboard, providing you with real-time feedback that the system is working to preserve your visibility.
Once the Kia K4 sensors detect high humidity levels inside the vehicle, the AUTO defogging process initiates automatically. The following corrective actions are performed by the vehicle:
The A/C compressor is engaged to dry the air, and the A/C indicator light will turn on.
The air intake control automatically shifts to external airflow, especially when the outside temperature is low, to bring in drier air.
The climate control mode is adjusted to the defrost setting, directing a concentrated stream of airflow specifically toward the windshield.
The blower fan speed is increased to accelerate the clearing process.
Canceling or resetting the AUTO defogging system
If you wish to manage the system manually, you can cancel or reset it by pressing and holding the front windshield defroster icon for at least 3 seconds while the Kia K4 ignition is in the ON position.
When the AUTO defogging system is successfully canceled, the defrost icon indicator will blink 3 times. Conversely, when the system is reset to its default operational state, the defrost icon indicator will blink 6 times to confirm the configuration.
TIP
If you attempt to switch the A/C system OFF while the AUTO defogging function is currently active, the indicator will blink 3 times, and the system will override your input to keep the A/C engaged for safety.
To ensure the Kia K4 AUTO defogging system operates with maximum efficiency, we recommend avoiding the recirculated air intake setting while the system is actively clearing the glass.
NOTE
Please do not remove or obstruct the sensor cover located at the top center of the windshield glass. Any damage to these integrated system components may compromise performance and may not be covered under your Kia K4 vehicle warranty.
Your Kia K4 is equipped with a high-performance rear window defroster designed to efficiently remove frost, ice, and fog, ensuring clear rearward visibility. For information regarding the clearing of the front windshield, please refer to the "Windshield defrosting and defogging" section in this manual.
NOTE
Conductors
To prevent irreparable damage to the heating conductors bonded to the interior surface of the rear window glass, never attempt to clean the window using sharp objects, scrapers, or window cleaning agents that contain abrasive materials.
Rear window defroster
|
The rear defroster uses integrated heating elements to clear frost and fog from the glass while the Kia K4 ignition is in the ON position. If your vehicle has a heavy accumulation of snow, please brush it off manually before engaging the defroster to achieve the best results.
To turn the rear window defroster on:
Press the rear window defroster icon on the climate control panel. An indicator light will appear on the button to confirm the system is heating.
The Kia K4 rear window defroster is designed to automatically turn off after approximately 20 minutes of continuous operation or immediately when the ignition is switched to the OFF position.
To turn off the defroster manually:
Simply press the rear window defroster icon again.
Outside mirror defroster
If your specific Kia K4 model is equipped with heated outside mirrors, these will automatically activate whenever you turn on the rear window defroster, ensuring your side-view mirrors remain clear in cold or rainy conditions.
To proactively maintain optimal visibility and prevent interior window fogging, the Kia K4 climate control system intelligently manages air intake and A/C operations based on real-time environmental conditions. These adjustments are automatically reflected when specific modes, such as
or
, are active.
If you wish to customize these settings, you may cancel or restore the automatic defogging logic by following the procedures outlined below for your specific Kia K4 climate system type.
Canceling or restoring automatic defogging logic for manual climate control system
Start the Kia K4 engine or place the ignition in the ON position.
Press the front defroster button
.
Within 10 seconds of entering the DEFOG mode, press and hold the air intake button for at least 5 seconds, while simultaneously holding the A/C button for at least 3 seconds.
The indicator light on the air intake control button will blink 3 times to confirm that the Kia K4 defogging logic has been successfully toggled. Please note that this status will reset to default if the 12V battery is disconnected or deeply discharged.
Canceling or restoring automatic defogging logic for automatic climate control system
Start the Kia K4 vehicle.
Press the front defroster icon
.
While holding down the A/C icon, press the air intake control icon at least 5 times within a 3-second window.
The recirculation indicator will blink 3 times at half-second intervals, signaling that the Kia K4 defogging logic has been updated. As with the manual system, this configuration reverts to factory defaults if the 12V battery power is lost.
