To manually toggle the Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist system in your Kia K4, locate the Parking Safety button (
) and press and hold it for more than 2 seconds.
When the Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA) system in your Kia K4 detects a potential collision risk with pedestrians or objects situated behind the vehicle, it employs a multi-layered warning strategy. You will receive an audible alert, tactile feedback through steering wheel vibration, and a visual warning message on the instrument cluster. Furthermore, if your Kia K4 is equipped with and utilizing the Surround View Monitor, the infotainment screen will display a supplementary hazard warning.
In scenarios where a collision risk becomes urgent, the Kia K4 Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist will automatically intervene by controlling the vehicle's braking system to mitigate or avoid impact.
To ensure this feature is active, navigate to the "Backward Safety" option within the Parking Safety menu on your infotainment screen. The system is enabled and ready to function under these specific conditions:
All doors, as well as the trunk/liftgate, are fully closed.
The Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) is fully released.
The transmission gear selector is shifted into R (Reverse).
Vehicle speed is below 6 mph (10 km/h) when the system is monitoring for pedestrians.
Vehicle speed is below 1 mph (4 km/h) when the system is monitoring for static objects.
All core components of the Kia K4 collision-avoidance system—including the high-definition wide-rear view camera and all rear ultrasonic sensors—are functioning normally and are free from debris.

When the Kia K4 Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist is actively engaged, a status line will appear at the base of the vehicle graphic within your instrument cluster.
TIP
For safety, the Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist in your Kia K4 operates once per R (Reverse) engagement. To trigger the system again, you must shift out of Reverse and back into R (Reverse).
If the Kia K4 detects an impending collision risk, the system provides audible alerts and cluster-based warnings. If your infotainment screen is active, a corresponding visual warning will be prioritized on that display.
Should a collision become imminent, the system may initiate emergency braking. Please note that this braking assistance will automatically release after 5 minutes. In such a scenario, you must immediately press the brake pedal yourself and verify that the area around your Kia K4 is clear.
The automatic braking assist will also disengage under the following conditions:
You shift the transmission into P (Park) or D (Drive).
You apply the manual brake pedal with sufficient force to hold the vehicle.
You clear the warning alert by shifting the gear selector to P (Park), N (Neutral), or D (Drive).
TIP
If the automatic braking control is activated while you are reversing in your Kia K4, the system will release the brake pressure after 5 minutes, at which point the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) will automatically engage to secure the vehicle.
