Kia K4: Integrated memory system / Resetting the system

Contents:

If the Integrated Memory System in your Kia K4 fails to operate properly, follow the recommended reset procedures detailed in the vehicle service section. Should the issue persist after a manual reset, please visit your local authorized Kia dealer for a professional diagnostic check.

Resetting the integrated memory system

If you encounter issues with the Integrated Memory System (IMS) in your Kia K4, such as unresponsive buttons or incorrect seat positioning, you may need to perform a system reset. Follow these steps to restore functionality:

  1. Park your Kia K4 in a safe location, ensure the transmission is shifted into P (Park), and keep the ENGINE START/STOP button in the ON position.
  2. Use the seat controls to manually adjust the driver’s seat and seatback to the foremost (most forward) position.
  3. Simultaneously press and hold the memory button (1 or 2) and push the driver’s seat movement switch forward for more than 2 seconds.

While resetting the integrated memory system

  1. The reset process begins once you hear a notification chime from the system.

  2. The driver’s seat and seatback will automatically move to the rearward position accompanied by a notification sound.

  3. Finally, the driver’s seat and seatback will return to the default (central) position, signaled by a final notification sound.

Please note that the reset procedure and the accompanying chimes will be interrupted if any of the following occur:

    • The memory button is pressed during the cycle.

    • The seat control switch is manually operated.

    • The gear selector is moved out of the P (Park) position.

    • The vehicle's driving speed exceeds 3 mph (5 km/h).

    • The driver’s door is closed.

    TIP

    • If the reset process is interrupted before completion, do not worry; simply restart the entire procedure from the beginning to ensure the Kia K4 memory system is fully recalibrated.

    • Always verify that there are no obstructions, such as luggage or debris, around the driver’s seat area before initiating the reset to prevent potential damage.

    • After a successful reset, you must re-save your preferred seating positions into the memory buttons (1 or 2) to resume normal operation.

If you notice the windshield wipers on your Kia K4 are no longer cleaning the glass adequately—leaving streaks or skipping—the blades are likely worn or cracked and require immediate replacement.
