If the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) system in your Kia K4 encounters a fault and is not functioning as intended, the Master warning light (
) will illuminate on the instrument cluster, accompanied by a diagnostic warning message that remains visible for several seconds.
Should this occur, please have the system inspected by an authorized Kia dealer to ensure your Kia K4 safety features are fully restored.

In the event that the warning indicator integrated into the outside rearview mirror malfunctions, the Master warning light (
) will trigger on the instrument cluster, alongside a corresponding warning message. We recommend visiting an authorized Kia dealer to have this indicator serviced.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist disabled
|
|
The performance of the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist in your Kia K4 may be temporarily restricted or disabled if the rear-side radar sensors are obstructed. This can occur due to the accumulation of foreign materials like rain, mud, or snow on the rear bumper, or by the installation of external accessories such as a trailer, bike carrier, or rear-mounted cargo carrier.
When the system detects such obstructions, a warning message will appear on your Kia K4 instrument cluster to inform you of the limited functionality.
Typically, the system will resume normal operation automatically once you clean any debris from the sensors or remove obstructions from the rear bumper area. If the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist remains unavailable or shows persistent errors after clearing the area, please contact an authorized Kia dealer for a professional inspection.
WARNING
Please remain vigilant, as the Kia K4 may not always display a warning message even if the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist is experiencing reduced operational accuracy.
The system may not calibrate correctly or operate properly in open, featureless areas immediately after the Kia K4 is started, as it requires environmental references to initialize.
TIP
To prevent false alerts or system errors, it is recommended to turn OFF the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist manually when installing or removing a trailer, carrier, or similar attachment. Once the attachment is securely removed, remember to toggle the system back ON to maintain full safety coverage in your Kia K4.
While the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) system in your Kia K4 is designed to enhance your safety, there are specific environmental and driving conditions where the system may operate abnormally or unexpectedly. Always remain attentive when maneuvering your Kia K4.
The system may experience performance limitations in the following scenarios:
Exiting or reversing from areas with dense, overgrown foliage that can obstruct sensor detection.
Operating in areas with wet road surfaces, as heavy rain or standing water can influence radar signal reflection.
When an approaching vehicle is moving at an unusually high or very low speed, which may fall outside the system’s calibrated detection window.
Automated braking control may be compromised, necessitating manual driver intervention, under these conditions:
The Kia K4 experiences severe vibration while driving over extremely uneven surfaces, potholes, or unpaved terrain.
Driving on low-friction surfaces, such as deep snow, slush, heavy rain, or patches of ice, which can affect the vehicle's braking stability.
When tire pressure is improperly maintained or if a tire is physically damaged, as this impacts the vehicle's overall handling and braking response.
NOTE
For additional technical details regarding the rear corner radar sensors, please refer to the "Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)" section of your owner's manual.
WARNING
Operating near vehicles or structures:
![]() |
|
The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist in your Kia K4 may have limited visibility when maneuvering near large vehicles or fixed structures. In such environments, the system might fail to detect a vehicle approaching from the left or right, resulting in a failure to provide a warning or engage the brakes. Always perform a manual check of your surroundings while backing up.
Complex parking environments:
![]() |
In highly congested parking lots, the RCCA system may occasionally detect vehicles that are merely parking or pulling out in the vicinity of your Kia K4 (such as a neighboring vehicle departing, or a vehicle turning nearby). This can lead to unnecessary alerts or unintended brake control. Always maintain awareness of your surroundings while reversing.
Diagonal parking or maneuvering:
![]() |
The detection capability of your Kia K4 may be restricted when backing up at a diagonal angle. Under these conditions, the system may not detect traffic approaching from the sides, and automated warnings or braking may not be initiated. It is your responsibility to monitor your surroundings carefully at all times.
Always maintain a high level of vigilance and directly check your surroundings while backing up your Kia K4.
Vehicle operation on or near a slope
|
The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) system of your Kia K4 may experience limitations when the vehicle is positioned on or near an incline or decline. Changes in vehicle pitch can affect sensor angles, potentially causing the system to miss vehicles approaching from the left or right. Consequently, the Kia K4 may fail to provide timely warnings or automatic braking intervention. Always perform a manual visual check of your surroundings when reversing.
Parking maneuvers near structural obstacles
|
|
When you reverse the Kia K4 into a parking space bounded by walls or physical structures, the sensors might mistakenly identify cross-traffic vehicles passing in front of you. This can trigger unnecessary audible warnings or automatic brake activation. Always remain alert and verify your environment while backing up your Kia K4.
Parking in reverse
|
If your Kia K4 is parked in a reverse orientation, the RCCA system may detect passing traffic behind the vehicle, which can result in nuisance alerts or unintentional brake control. As always, rely on your direct observation of the surroundings while operating the Kia K4 in reverse.
TIP
For safety reasons, please ensure that you turn OFF the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist whenever you are towing a trailer or attaching other rear-mounted accessories to your Kia K4.
High-intensity electromagnetic interference in the environment may disrupt the radar sensors, causing the Kia K4 system to operate inconsistently.
Please note that after the engine is started or the rear corner radars are initialized, there may be a brief delay of approximately 3 seconds before the Kia K4 system becomes fully active and operational.
If you restart your Kia K4 while the sensors are blocked or in a faulted state, the RCCA function will remain in its last active status; however, it may not function properly until the obstruction is cleared.
Operation of this electronic system in your Kia K4 is subject to the following two conditions:
This device may not cause harmful interference, and
this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation of the vehicle's electronic features.
TIP
Any changes or modifications to the equipment in your Kia K4 not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void your authority to operate the equipment.
Kia K4 (CL4) 2025-2026 Owner's Manual: Inside rearview mirror
Adjust the inside rearview mirror so that you can view the entire rear window clearly from your driving position. Ensure this adjustment is finalized before you begin your journey in the Kia K4. To maintain a clear view, avoid placing bulky items, boxes, or passengers in the rear seat or cargo area that could obstruct the rear window visibility. WARNING Mirror adjustment For your safety, never attempt to adjust the rearview mirror while the Kia K4 is in motion.Electronic Stability Control (ESC) indicator light The ESC system is a critical safety feature of your Kia K4. This indicator light operates as follows: It illuminates for approximately 3 seconds as a system self-diagnostic check whenever you turn the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position. If the light remains illuminated, it indicates a malfunction in the ESC system.
