The hood acts as the primary protective structural cover for the front engine compartment. Open the hood panel whenever you need to inspect internal fluid levels, perform routine technical checkups, or have professional maintenance work executed within the powertrain compartment of your Kia K4.
Locate and firmly pull the primary interior hood release lever positioned on the lower left side of the driver’s footwell dash panel to unlatch the primary lock mechanism. The hood will pop open slightly, releasing from its flush alignment position.
|
Walk to the front of the vehicle, slide your fingers into the gap beneath the slightly raised hood panel, and locate the secondary safety catch. Push the secondary hood release lever (1) firmly to the left side to disengage the secondary latch hardware, and lift the hood panel upward.
|
Lift the unlatched hood upwards halfway; the integrated gas-charged support struts or counter-balance hinges will take over the structural weight, guiding it until it fully opens into a stable configuration.
An automated visual hood open warning graphic message will instantly project onto the central instrument cluster LCD display screen if the sensor detects that the front latch is not fully locked down into position.
|
To prevent driving visibility hazards, an audible warning chime will also sound continuously when you attempt to accelerate or drive the vehicle at or above a speed threshold of 2 mph (3 km/h) while the hood remains unsecured on your Kia K4.
|
Before closing the front hood panel, carefully audit the engine bay and check the following technical parameters:
All oil, coolant, windshield washer, and brake fluid filler caps in the engine compartment must be fully tightened and correctly installed.
Maintenance gloves, cleaning rags, tools, or any other loose combustible materials must be completely removed from the warm engine compartment surfaces.
Grip the hood and lower it slowly until the front lip is positioned about 12 inches (30 cm) directly above the closed bumper alignment level, and then let it drop freely under its own weight. Make sure that the structural catch successfully locks into place with an audible confirmation click.
Physically check that the hood has latched properly by lifting up gently on the front edge of the panel.
If the panel can be raised even slightly, it means the primary lock mechanism is not properly engaged or stuck on the safety catch. Open it again via the cabin lever and close it with a small amount of additional downward force.
CRITICAL OBSTRUCTION CAUTION:Before closing the hood panel, verify that all external objects, tools, or hands are removed from the perimeter channel opening. Closing the hood with any physical obstruction present in the frame may result in severe personal physical injury or permanent structural property damage to your Kia K4.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE RISK WARNING:Do not leave detailing gloves, shop rags, towels, or any other highly combustible materials inside the engine compartment. Doing so can lead to heat-induced ignition or severe fire hazards when contacting hot exhaust components.
UNSECURED HOOD FLIGHT HAZARD WARNING:Always double check to be absolutely sure that the hood is firmly latched and locked down before driving away from a stop. If it is not fully engaged, the aerodynamic air pressure could force the hood to fly open completely while you drive the vehicle at speed, causing a total loss of forward visibility which may result in a severe vehicle accident.
