If the Highway Driving Assist (HDA) system in your Kia K4 is not functioning as intended, the Master warning light (
) will illuminate on the instrument cluster. You will also see a warning message appear for several seconds. If this occurs, please have the Highway Driving Assist system inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible to ensure your Kia K4 remains in peak operating condition.
WARNING
You remain solely responsible for driving safely and maintaining control of your Kia K4 at all times.
Always keep your hands on the steering wheel while driving; never rely solely on automated systems.
Highway Driving Assist is a supplemental convenience function designed to support the driver; it is NOT a fully autonomous driving system. Always monitor road conditions closely and be prepared to take immediate manual action to drive safely.
Always keep your eyes on the road. It is your legal responsibility to obey all traffic laws. Kia is not responsible for any traffic violations, fines, or accidents caused by the driver's failure to maintain focus.
The Kia K4 Highway Driving Assist system may not recognize all traffic situations. The function has inherent limitations and may fail to detect potential collisions, obstacles (such as vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians, or unspecified objects), or stationary structures (such as guardrails, construction barriers, or tollgates) that pose a collision risk.
Highway Driving Assist in your Kia K4 will automatically turn OFF in the following situations:
When driving on roads where the function is not supported, such as rest areas, intersections, complex junctions, and local city streets.
When the navigation system of your Kia K4 experiences a temporary failure or is performing a reboot/update.
Highway Driving Assist may inadvertently engage or disengage based on changing road conditions, navigation map updates, and external environmental factors.
The Lane Following Assist (LFA) function may be temporarily disabled if the front-view camera is obscured, cannot clearly detect lane markings, or if a hands-off warning is triggered.
Be aware that audible HDA warning sounds may be difficult to hear if your driving environment is excessively noisy.
When driving your Kia K4 on a sharp curve at high speeds, the vehicle may veer toward the edge or unintentionally depart from the lane.
For your own safety and the safety of others, always turn Highway Driving Assist OFF when towing a trailer or another vehicle with your Kia K4.
The timing of the hands-off warning message may vary based on road conditions, your steering technique, and system sensors. Always keep your hands on the steering wheel for your safety.
Please thoroughly read the owner's manual before utilizing the Highway Driving Assist features in your Kia K4.
Highway Driving Assist will not engage immediately upon starting the vehicle while the detection sensors or navigation system are still in the process of initialization.
TIP
You can verify system status and check for specific issues via the "Service message" section within the utility information view of your Kia K4 instrument cluster display.
The Highway Driving Assist (HDA) and Highway Lane Change Assist systems in your Kia K4 are advanced driver-assistance features; however, they may operate abnormally or unexpectedly if the vehicle encounters any of the following circumstances:
The onboard navigation system map information is outdated, causing a mismatch with the actual road layout.
Real-time GPS data errors or inaccuracies in the digital map data lead to inconsistencies between the Kia K4 position and the road network.
The Kia K4 infotainment system experiences high processor load, such as when simultaneously running complex route planning, high-definition video playback, or extensive voice recognition tasks.
GPS signal reception is obstructed, such as when the Kia K4 is driving through tunnels, parking structures, or densely built-up urban areas.
You deviate from the planned route, manually reset the navigation destination, or cancel the active route guidance entirely.
The Kia K4 enters a service station, rest area, or exit lane.
Android Auto™ or Apple CarPlay® are actively running, which may prioritize external device processes over internal system functions.
The navigation system loses precision in vehicle positioning, which can occur on complex multi-level road structures like overpasses, elevated highways adjacent to surface streets, or parallel road networks.
The vehicle’s forward-sensing cameras fail to clearly distinguish single white dashed lane lines or ambiguous road boundaries.
The lane of travel is undergoing temporary restrictions, construction, or reconfiguration.
The roadway lacks physical center-separation infrastructure, such as a median strip or permanent guardrail, which is essential for certain HDA operational logic.
The lane you intend to shift into is a dedicated bus lane, HOV lane, or a variable-direction lane.
You have a trailer, cargo carrier, or other external equipment attached to the rear or exterior of your Kia K4, which can interfere with radar-based detection.
NOTE
For comprehensive technical details regarding the front camera, front radar, and corner radar sensor suites, please refer to the "Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) (Sensor Fusion)" section of your Kia K4 manual.
