NOTE
In the event of a system error, the following alerts will be displayed on your Kia K4 LCD screen. For comprehensive troubleshooting, please refer to the "malfunction and limitations" documentation for the affected system:
"Check forward attention warning system" (Indicates a potential sensor or software issue)
"Forward attention warning disabled. Camera obscured" (Indicates the in-cabin camera lens is blocked, dirty, or obstructed by accessories)
In the event that the Forward Attention Warning (FAW) system in your Kia K4 experiences an internal diagnostic fault, the instrument cluster will display a warning message for several seconds. Simultaneously, the Forward Attention Warning indicator light (
) will illuminate on the dash, and an audible chime will sound to alert the driver until the system status is corrected.
Warning message: Check forward attention warning system
If this alert persists, we strongly recommend having your Kia K4 inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible to ensure your safety systems are fully operational.
Forward Attention Warning disabled
The Forward Attention Warning system relies on a clear line of sight from the in-cabin camera to the driver. If an object is positioned directly in front of the camera or obstructs the view between the camera and the driver for an extended period, the FAW will not be able to operate correctly. If this obstruction is detected, a warning message will appear on the Kia K4 instrument cluster for several seconds, the Forward Attention Warning light (
) will light up, and an audible warning will sound until the obstruction is cleared.
Warning message: Forward attention warning disabled. Camera obscured
Once the obstructing object is removed and the in-cabin camera can once again detect the driver’s face, the Kia K4 system will automatically resume normal operation. If the Forward Attention Warning remains disabled after the obstruction is cleared, please contact an authorized Kia dealer for a professional system inspection.
CAUTION
Avoid applying any physical impact or pressure to the surface of the in-cabin camera or its surrounding housing. Any structural damage to the camera lens or sensor unit may result in the Kia K4 Forward Attention Warning system malfunctioning.
Do not place personal items, such as cellular phones, hats, or accessories, over or in front of the in-cabin camera while the Kia K4 is in operation, as this will interfere with the camera's ability to monitor the driver.
When cleaning the in-cabin camera unit, use only a soft, clean microfiber cloth. To prevent damage to the delicate lens coating, never use sharp tools, abrasive materials, or harsh chemical cleaners near the Kia K4 in-cabin camera.
For consistent detection accuracy, ensure the in-cabin camera lens and the surrounding area remain clean, dry, and free of dust or moisture.
Do not apply stickers, tape, or other foreign materials over or around the infrared LED located near the in-cabin camera, as this will disrupt the system's ability to operate in low-light conditions.
TIP
You may observe two red lights emitting from the in-cabin camera unit. This is a normal operation of the infrared illumination system, which may be visible under the following conditions:
When driving at night or in conditions with low ambient exterior lighting.
When the Kia K4 is driven inside buildings, tunnels, underground parking garages, or other dim environments.
If the external camera housing or lens cover has sustained minor damage, making the infrared internal light source more visible.
The Forward Attention Warning (FAW) system in your Kia K4 is a highly sophisticated feature, but its reliance on precise in-cabin optical tracking means it may function unexpectedly or fail to detect the driver under the following specific circumstances:
Eyewear Obstructions: If the driver is wearing sunglasses, infrared cutoff glasses, thick-rimmed spectacles, specialty goggles, or refracting lenses, the camera may struggle to track eye movement accurately within the Kia K4.
Facial Cosmetics and Features: Heavy eye makeup (including eyeliner, mascara, or colorful eyeshadow), false eyelashes, or facial piercings around the eye area can lead to misinterpretation of gaze patterns by the Kia K4 sensor.
Physical Blockages: Any hair, hats, hand positioning, or clothing items (such as scarves or high-collared jackets) that partially cover the driver's face will reduce system effectiveness.
Eye Conditions: Winking, wearing an eye patch, or having eyes narrowed significantly due to genuine laughter or intense sun glare can prevent the system from registering an open eye.
Masking: Facial coverings like masks or scarves that conceal the nose and mouth region can hinder the Kia K4 camera's ability to map the driver's facial structure.
Lighting Interference: Direct sunlight, strong backlighting, or external light reflections on spectacles—as well as reflections from the Kia K4 in-cabin camera’s own infrared LED—can cause glare that obscures the driver’s face.
Head Movement: If the driver rotates or drops their head, causing the eyes or facial features to leave the field of view of the camera, the system will not be able to track focus.
Vehicle and Driver Dynamics: Excessive vehicle vibration due to rough road surfaces, or the driver shaking their head, can blur the image input. Furthermore, if the driver is not seated correctly, or is significantly outside of average height ranges (too tall or too short), the sensor may miss them.
Steering Obstruction: The physical positioning of the driver’s hands on the steering wheel may inadvertently block the line of sight between the Kia K4 in-cabin camera and the driver's face.
Multiple Occupants: The system is designed to monitor the driver; if more than two people are simultaneously within the camera’s view from the driver’s seat, the tracking logic may fail.
False Positives: The Kia K4 in-cabin camera might incorrectly identify objects, such as mannequins or high-quality photos/displays with human facial features, as the driver.
IR Interference: The use of other electronic devices within the Kia K4 cabin that emit infrared light can create interference with the FAW’s internal infrared system.
Kia K4 (CL4) 2025-2026 Owner's Manual: Consumer assistance for the Kia K4 (U.S. only)
Every new Kia K4 model is backed by a comprehensive Roadside Assistance program. This coverage begins on the vehicle's in-service date—defined as the date the vehicle is delivered to its first retail buyer or otherwise put into use—and remains valid for a period of 60 months or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Please consult the Kia Warranty and Consumer Information Manual specifically applicable to your Kia K4 model year for a complete breakdown of terms, conditions, and specific exclusions.Kia K4 (CL4) 2025-2026 Owner's Manual: Rear occupant alert (ROA) system
The advanced Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) system integrated into your vehicle is a vital driver assistance feature configured to monitor the rear passenger cabin. This sub-system actively reduces the risk of a child, infant, vulnerable passenger, or family pet being inadvertently left behind in the vehicle when the driver exits. Environmental Sensor Optimization Protocol: To ensure the underlying ultrasonic interior sensors function with maximum accuracy, make sure that all side passenger windows and the sunroof assembly are completely closed whenever the ROA framework is operational.
