Kia K4: Wiper blades / Blade replacement

Contents:

As the rubber compound ages and is exposed to the elements, the wipers will eventually lose their ability to clear the windshield effectively. If you observe signs of wear, such as cracking or tearing, replace the blades promptly to maintain clear vision while operating your Kia K4.

NOTE

To prevent damage to the wiper arms or internal drive components, do not attempt to move the wipers manually.

NOTE

Using a wiper blade not approved for the Kia K4 could result in improper contact with the windshield, leading to wiper malfunction and potential failure during inclement weather.

Front wiper blade replacement

Service position activation for Kia K4 front windshield wipers

To ensure your convenience and to protect the hood paint from accidental scratches, you should move the windshield wiper blades into the service position before attempting a replacement. After turning the engine OFF, push the wiper switch to the MIST position within 20 seconds and hold it for more than 2 seconds; the wiper blades on your Kia K4 will then move to a vertical position, providing clear access.

NOTE

Wiper arm safety

  • Do not allow the wiper arm to snap back against the windshield glass, as the impact could easily crack or chip the glass surface.

  • Never pull the wiper arm forward while it is in the stowed position, as this movement could scratch or chip the paint on the hood of your Kia K4.

  1. Gently raise the wiper arm away from the windshield.
  2. Lift up the wiper blade release clip (1). Once unlocked, pull the blade assembly downward to remove it from the arm (2).

  6. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position to automatically return the wipers of your Kia K4 to their normal operating position at the base of the glass.

  4. Install the new blade assembly by aligning the center connector with the slot on the wiper arm and pushing until you hear a distinct click.
  5. Ensure the blade is firmly seated. Lower the arm to the rear windshield, switch the ENGINE START/STOP button to ON, and briefly operate the rear wiper to confirm smooth movement. If you are unsure about the procedure, have your Kia K4 wiper blade replaced by an authorized Kia dealer to avoid damaging the arm.

    NOTE

Do not apply excessive force to the wiper arm while pulling the blade, as this may break the internal locking mechanism.

    CAUTION

    • If the wipers do not operate (e.g., due to frozen blades or lack of washer fluid), the system may pause for about 10 seconds to protect the motor. This is part of the Kia K4 motor overload protection system and is not a malfunction.

    • With the blades raised, it is a perfect time to clean your windshield with a hose and a clean towel. Ensure you wipe any accumulated grease or wax off the blades themselves to maintain streak-free performance.
