Follow the correct Kia EV6 portable charging procedure carefully to ensure safe and stable charging operation.
Turn OFF all switches, move the shift dial to P (Park), and switch the Kia EV6 OFF completely.
Connect the plug securely to a household electric outlet.
|
Check whether the green power lamp illuminates on the ICCB control box.
|
Depress the brake pedal and apply the parking brake.
Turn OFF all switches, shift to P (Park), and turn OFF the vehicle. If charging is started while the gear is not in P (Park), the Kia EV6 automatically shifts to P before charging begins.
Open the charging door.
For more details, refer to Charging door.
Open the protective caps on the charging connector and charging plug. Inspect for dust, moisture, or foreign substances before connection.
Hold the charging connector handle and connect it securely to the Kia EV6 charging inlet. Push the connector fully into place. Improper connection between the charging connector and charging terminal may result in overheating or fire.
NOTE
If the charging connector and charging inlet are not connected correctly, the connector may droop or vibrate. In this case, hold the connector handle and push it fully into the charging inlet again.
Charging starts automatically and the charging lamp illuminates when charging begins.
|
Check that the high-voltage battery charging indicator light (
) on the instrument cluster is
ON.
Charging is not active when the charging indicator light (
) is OFF. If the connector is
not
properly connected, reconnect the charging cable and begin charging again.
After charging starts, the estimated charging time appears on the Kia EV6 instrument cluster for approximately 1 minute.
|
If the driver seat door is opened while charging, the estimated charging time is also displayed for approximately 1 minute. When scheduled charging or scheduled climate control is enabled, the estimated charging time may appear as "--".
Follow the proper Kia EV6 portable charging cable removal procedure to help protect the charging connector, charging inlet, and ICCB charging system components from unnecessary wear or damage.
Before disconnecting the charging connector from the Kia EV6, confirm that all vehicle doors are unlocked. When the doors are locked, the charging connector lock system prevents the connector from being removed.
To help prevent charging cable theft, the Kia EV6 charging connector remains locked to the inlet while the doors are locked. However, if the vehicle is set to charging connector AUTO mode, the charging connector unlocks automatically after charging is completed.
NOTE
Always unlock the vehicle doors before disconnecting the charging connector. Attempting to remove the connector while the lock system is engaged may damage both the charging connector and the Kia EV6 charging inlet.
Hold the charging connector handle firmly and pull the connector straight outward from the Kia EV6 charging inlet.
|
Make sure the Kia EV6 charging door is closed securely after disconnecting the charging cable.
Disconnect the plug from the household electrical outlet. Always hold the plug body directly when disconnecting. Never pull on the charging cable itself.
|
Close the protective cover on the charging connector to help prevent dust, moisture, or foreign materials from entering the terminal section.
Store the Kia EV6 charging cable properly inside the designated cable storage compartment to protect the cable from physical damage and contamination.
Do not attempt to repair, disassemble, modify, or adjust the Kia EV6 portable charger or ICCB control box.
Do not use extension cords, adapters, multi-plugs, or uncertified electrical accessories with the Kia EV6 portable charging system.
Stop using the portable charger immediately if any malfunction, abnormal smell, overheating, or charging interruption occurs.
Never touch the charging plug or charging connector with wet hands.
Do not touch the terminal section of the AC charging connector or the Kia EV6 charging inlet.
Do not use the portable charging cable if it is worn, damaged, cut, cracked, or has exposed wiring.
If the ICCB case, charging connector, charging plug, or charging cable is cracked, damaged, or has exposed wires, stop using the Kia EV6 portable charger immediately.
Do not allow children to operate or play with the portable charging equipment.
Keep the charging connector terminals and plug contacts free from moisture, dirt, dust, or foreign substances.
Do not pull, sharply bend, twist, crush, or step on the charging cable or power cord.
Do not charge the Kia EV6 during thunderstorms or lightning conditions.
Do not place heaters, heat-generating equipment, or high-temperature objects near the charger during charging.
Charging the Kia EV6 using a damaged or worn household electrical outlet may create a risk of fire or electric shock. If you are unsure about the condition of the outlet, have it inspected by a qualified electrician before charging.
Stop using the portable charger immediately if the outlet, plug, ICCB control box, or charging cable becomes excessively hot or if a burning smell is detected.
During Kia EV6 charging operation, radio reception quality may temporarily decrease in certain locations because of electromagnetic interference.
NOTE
To help prevent charging cable theft, the Kia EV6 charging connector cannot be disconnected from the charging inlet when the doors are locked or when the charging connector is set to Always lock mode. Unlock all doors before attempting to disconnect the charging connector.
If the vehicle is configured to charging connector Lock while charging mode, the charging connector unlocks automatically after charging is completed.
For more details, refer to Charging connector lock.
If the release button does not operate even after all doors are unlocked, pull the emergency release cable located in the motor room and then press the release button on the connector to disconnect it from the Kia EV6. If the release button still does not function correctly, visit an authorized Kia dealer for inspection.
Proper storage of the Kia EV6 charging cable helps maintain cable durability and protects the charging connector from dust, moisture, and physical damage.
|
Kia recommends storing the portable charging cable inside the dedicated storage box after every charging session.
Kia EV6 2022-2026 Owner's Manual: Defogging logic: (if equipped)
The Kia EV6 automatic defogging logic helps reduce the possibility of windshield fogging by automatically controlling the air intake mode and air conditioning operation according to specific conditions, such as () or () mode. To deactivate or restore the Kia EV6 automatic defogging logic, follow the procedure below.Kia EV6 2022-2026 Owner's Manual: If the Vehicle Will Not Start
The Kia EV6 may fail to start if the 12-volt battery charge is insufficient or if a related electrical issue is present. Check the battery condition by performing the following steps: Verify that the shifter dial is positioned in P (Park). The Kia EV6 can only be started when the transmission selector is in the Park position.
