Kia EV6: Driving your vehicle / Smart regeneration system

Contents:

The Kia EV6 Smart Regeneration System automatically adjusts regenerative braking force based on road gradient, driving conditions, and the movement of vehicles ahead.

This advanced Kia EV6 feature helps reduce unnecessary brake and accelerator pedal operation, improving electrical efficiency while supporting smoother and more comfortable driving.

Setting smart regeneration system

Pull and hold the right-side Kia EV6 paddle shifter for more than 0.5 seconds to switch the automatic regenerative braking adjustment system ON or OFF.

Smart regeneration system activation

When AUTO appears on the instrument cluster, the Kia EV6 Smart Regeneration System automatically adjusts the regenerative braking level to match current driving conditions. This intelligent feature becomes active when the vehicle speed exceeds 6 mph (10 km/h) and one or more of the following driving situations are detected. The advanced energy recovery system in the Kia EV6 is designed to improve driving comfort, increase efficiency, and optimize battery usage during everyday driving.

  • The road gradient or slope changes while driving

  • The distance to the vehicle ahead decreases or increases

  • The speed of the vehicle ahead changes during traffic flow

If none of the conditions listed above are detected, the regenerative braking system in the Kia EV6 operates at level 0 for a smoother coasting experience.

NOTE

  • The regenerative braking level can be personalized according to the driver’s preferred deceleration behavior. Available settings include Strong deceleration, Medium deceleration, and Soft deceleration for a more customized Kia EV6 driving experience.

To modify these settings, navigate to Settings > EV > Smart Regeneration System within the infotainment system menu.

  • The infotainment interface and menu layout may vary after software updates. For updated details, refer to the Kia EV6 infotainment manual and the quick reference documentation supplied with the vehicle.

NOTE

When vehicle speed falls below 6 mph (10 km/h), the Smart Regeneration System is automatically canceled. In these situations, the driver must directly control the vehicle speed using the accelerator or brake pedal according to surrounding traffic, road conditions, and driving circumstances.

Kia EV6 smart regeneration system activation display and regenerative braking control illustration

When the front radar sensor detects a vehicle ahead, the AUTO indicator appears in green on the cluster display. The Kia EV6 regenerative braking level is then adjusted automatically according to the traffic situation and the movement of the preceding vehicle. Directional arrows on the cluster indicate the currently applied regeneration intensity.

However, if the driver presses the brake pedal while the Smart Regeneration System is active, the current regenerative braking level remains unchanged. The system is also temporarily suspended whenever the accelerator pedal is depressed aggressively.

WARNING

The Smart Regeneration System in the Kia EV6 is intended solely as a supplemental convenience feature for assisting the driver during coasting and deceleration. Drivers must never rely entirely on this system to stop the vehicle or avoid collisions. The system may not provide sufficient braking force in all situations, especially if the vehicle ahead suddenly stops, another vehicle abruptly cuts into the lane, or the road surface includes steep inclines or slippery conditions. Always maintain full attention to the road and be prepared to brake manually when necessary.

Kia EV6 2022-2026 Owner's Manual: Lock (1)

All doors of the Kia EV6 are securely locked when the lock button is pressed. If every door is fully closed, the hazard warning lights will flash once and the warning chime will sound once to confirm that the vehicle has been locked successfully. If one or more doors remain open, the hazard warning lights and confirmation chime may not activate.

Kia EV6 2022-2026 Owner's Manual: Junction Crossing, Lane-Change Oncoming, Lane-Change Side, Evasive Steering Assist function: (if equipped)

The Kia EV6 Junction Crossing, Lane-Change Oncoming, Lane-Change Side, and Evasive Steering Assist systems may experience reduced performance when the temperature around the front or rear side radar sensors becomes excessively high or low. Installing a trailer, bicycle carrier, cargo carrier, or other accessory near the Kia EV6 rear corner radar may interfere with sensor operation and limit driver assistance performance.
