How to connect portable charger (ICCB: In-Cable Control Box)

Portable charging lets the Kia EV6 charge from a suitable household electrical outlet when a dedicated AC charger or DC fast charger is not available. Always use the correct ICCB portable charger and confirm that the outlet capacity matches the selected charging level before connecting.

  1. Connect the plug securely to a household electric outlet that is suitable for Kia EV6 portable charging.

  2. Confirm that the green power lamp appears on the ICCB control box before connecting the charger to the Kia EV6.

  3. Press the brake pedal and apply the parking brake to keep the Kia EV6 securely stationary during charging.

  4. Turn all switches off, shift the vehicle to P (Park), and switch the Kia EV6 off. If charging is started before the gear is in P (Park), charging will begin only after the vehicle automatically shifts to P.

  5. Open the charging door.

For more details, refer to Charging door.

  6. Open the protective caps on the charging connector and charging plug. Check carefully for dust, moisture, or foreign material before connecting.

  7. Hold the charging connector by the handle and insert it fully into the Kia EV6 charging inlet. Push the connector all the way in. If the charging connector and charging terminal are not connected correctly, overheating or fire may occur.

If the charging connector and charging inlet are not seated properly, the connector may droop or vibrate. In this case, hold the connector handle and push it fully into the inlet again.

  8. Charging starts automatically when the connection is correct, and the charging lamp appears.

  9. Check that the high-voltage battery charging indicator light ( Kia EV6 high voltage battery charging indicator on) in the instrument cluster is turned ON. Charging is not active when the charging indicator light ( Kia EV6 high voltage battery charging indicator off) is off. If the charging connector is not connected correctly, reconnect the charging cable and begin charging again.

  10. After charging begins, the estimated charging time appears on the Kia EV6 instrument cluster for approximately 1 minute.

    1. Remaining Time

If the driver seat door is opened while charging, the estimated charging time is also displayed on the instrument cluster for about 1 minute. When scheduled charging or scheduled air conditioning/heating is active, the estimated charging time may appear as "--".

CAUTION

Make sure the selected portable charging level matches the capacity of the circuit breaker and household outlet. Selecting an unsuitable charge level may cause a blown fuse, overheating, or electrical damage.

NOTE

  • If the Kia EV6 charging door cannot be opened because of freezing weather, lightly tap the area around the charging door or remove ice carefully. Do not force the charging door open.

  • Although charging is possible with the EV button in the POWER ON or DRIVE READY position, it is safer to begin charging with the EV button in the off position and the vehicle shifted to P (Park). After charging begins, electrical components such as the radio may be used by pressing the EV button to the POWER ON or DRIVE READY position.

During charging, the gear cannot be shifted from P (Park) to any other gear.

  • The time required to charge the Kia EV6 may vary depending on high-voltage battery condition, battery durability, charger specifications, selected current level, and ambient temperature.

How to disconnect portable charger (ICCB: In-Cable Control Box)

Disconnect the portable charger carefully to protect the Kia EV6 charging inlet, connector terminals, and cable components from damage.

  1. Hold the charging connector handle and pull it out (2) while pressing the unlock button (1) on the charging connector.

  2. Make sure the Kia EV6 charging door is completely closed after the connector is removed.

  3. Disconnect the plug from the household electric outlet. Always hold the plug itself and never pull directly on the cable.

  4. Close the protective caps on the charging connector and charging plug to protect them from dust, moisture, and other foreign substances.

  5. If a personal charging connector is used, store the connector properly in the cable compartment.

Precautions for portable charger (ICCB: In-Cable Control Box)

Follow these Kia EV6 portable charging precautions to reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, charger malfunction, or damage to the high-voltage charging system.

  • Use only a portable charger certified by an authorized Kia dealer.

  • Do not attempt to repair, disassemble, modify, or adjust the portable charger yourself.

  • Do not use an extension cord, adapter, multi-plug, or uncertified connector with the Kia EV6 portable charger.

  • Stop using the portable charger immediately if a failure, warning, overheating, or abnormal operation occurs.

  • Do not touch the plug or charging connector with wet hands.

  • Do not touch the terminal section of the AC charging connector or the AC charging inlet on the Kia EV6.

  • Do not connect the charging connector to a voltage source that does not comply with local electrical regulations.

  • Do not use the portable charger if it is worn, cracked, exposed, overheated, or visibly damaged.

  • If the ICCB case, AC charging connector, plug, or wiring is damaged, cracked, or exposed in any way, do not use the portable charger.

  • Do not allow children to operate, handle, or touch the Kia EV6 portable charger.

  • Keep the control box dry and protected from water.

  • Keep the charging connector, charging plug, and terminal areas free of foreign substances.

  • Do not step on the cable or cord. Do not pull, twist, bend sharply, crush, or place heavy pressure on the cable.

  • Do not charge the Kia EV6 during lightning or severe electrical storms.

  • Do not drop the control box or place heavy objects on top of it.

  • Do not place heaters, hot tools, or other high-temperature objects near the charger while charging.

  • Charging from a worn or damaged household outlet may create a risk of electric shock or fire. If the outlet condition is uncertain, have it inspected by a licensed electrician before charging the Kia EV6.

  • Stop using the portable charger immediately if the household outlet or any charging component becomes overheated, discolored, or produces a burning odor.

NOTE

To help prevent charging cable theft, the Kia EV6 charging connector cannot be disconnected from the inlet when the doors are locked or when the charging connector is in Always lock mode. Unlock all doors before disconnecting the charging connector from the inlet.

If the Kia EV6 is set to Lock while charging mode, the charging connector automatically unlocks from the inlet after charging is completed.

If the charging connector is disconnected without pressing the release button, the connector and charging inlet may be damaged.

For more details, refer to Charging connector lock.

If the release button does not work after all doors are unlocked, pull the emergency release cable in the motor room and press the connector release button to disconnect it from the vehicle. If the release button still does not operate, visit an authorized Kia dealer.
