Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist malfunction

Kia EV6 driver assistance malfunction warning message

A: Check Driver Assistance system.

If the Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system is not operating correctly, a warning message will appear on the instrument cluster for several seconds, and the master warning light (Kia EV6 master warning indicator icon) will illuminate.

If this occurs, have the Kia EV6 inspected by an authorized Kia dealer or qualified service center as soon as possible.

Kia EV6 side mirror warning light malfunction notification

A: Check side view mirror warning light

If the outside rearview mirror warning indicator of the Kia EV6 is malfunctioning, a warning message will briefly appear on the cluster, and the Master warning light (Kia EV6 master warning symbol) will illuminate.

If this situation occurs, have the Kia EV6 system inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist disabled

Kia EV6 radar blocked warning message display

A: Driver Assistance system limited. Radar blocked.

If the rear bumper area around the Kia EV6 rear-side radar sensors becomes covered with snow, rain, mud, dirt, or other foreign material, or if a trailer or cargo carrier is installed, the sensor detection performance may decrease and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may become temporarily limited or disabled.

When this occurs, a warning message will appear on the Kia EV6 instrument cluster.

The Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system resumes normal operation after foreign material such as snow, mud, or rain is removed from the radar area, or after any trailer or carrier obstruction is removed from the rear bumper.

If the Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system still does not function correctly after cleaning the sensors or removing obstructions, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

WARNING

  • Even if no warning message appears on the Kia EV6 instrument cluster, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may still not operate properly under certain conditions.

  • The Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system may not function correctly in open terrain or environments where nearby objects or vehicles cannot be detected immediately after vehicle startup.

CAUTION

Turn OFF Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist before installing or removing a trailer, bicycle carrier, cargo rack, or similar attachment. Turn the system back ON after installation or removal is complete.

Limitations of Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist

The Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system may operate unexpectedly or provide limited performance under certain environmental or driving conditions. Drivers should remain attentive and never rely entirely on the system while reversing or maneuvering in confined areas.

  • Backing out from areas where trees, bushes, or tall grass heavily obstruct visibility

  • Departing from locations where the road surface is wet, reflective, or covered with standing water

  • The speed of the approaching vehicle is excessively fast or unusually slow for accurate sensor prediction

Automatic braking control in the Kia EV6 may not function correctly, and direct driver attention is required under the following circumstances:

  • The vehicle experiences excessive vibration while driving over rough pavement, uneven roads, potholes, speed bumps, or patched concrete surfaces

  • Driving on slippery road conditions caused by snow, ice, puddles, mud, or wet surfaces

  • The Kia EV6 tire pressure is too low or one of the tires is damaged

  • The braking system has been modified, improperly serviced, or tuned

  • Remote Smart Parking Assist is currently operating (if equipped)

NOTE

For additional information regarding Kia EV6 rear corner radar operation and detection performance, refer to Blind-spot Collision-avoidance Assist (BCA).

WARNING

  • You are driving near a vehicle or structure

Kia EV6 rear cross-traffic assist detecting nearby structure while reversing
    1. Structure

The Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system may become restricted when reversing close to parked vehicles, walls, pillars, fences, or large structures. In these situations, the system may fail to properly detect an approaching vehicle from the left or right side.

If this occurs, the Kia EV6 may not issue a warning or automatically apply braking assistance when needed.

Always visually inspect the surroundings carefully while backing up.

  • The vehicle is in a complex parking environment

Kia EV6 operating in a crowded parking environment

The Kia EV6 system may detect vehicles that are parking, reversing, turning, or pulling away near your vehicle, including vehicles exiting adjacent parking spaces.

Under these complex parking conditions, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may provide unnecessary warnings or unexpectedly activate brake control.

Always monitor the surroundings directly and reverse cautiously.

  • The vehicle is parked diagonally

    1. Vehicle

When the Kia EV6 is parked diagonally or at an unusual angle, the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system may have difficulty detecting approaching traffic from either side.

In this case, the system may not provide timely warnings or automatic brake intervention.

Always confirm the area behind the Kia EV6 is clear before reversing.

  • The vehicle is on or near a slope

Kia EV6 reversing near an uphill or downhill slope

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist in the Kia EV6 may not operate properly when the vehicle is positioned on steep uphill or downhill grades, or when reversing near a sloped surface.

The system may fail to recognize vehicles approaching from the left or right side in these situations.

Always maintain awareness of surrounding traffic while backing up the Kia EV6.

  • Pulling into the parking space where there is a structure

    1. Structure

    2. Wall

While reversing the Kia EV6 into a parking space near walls, columns, or structures, the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system may detect vehicles traveling in front of the vehicle.

This can result in unnecessary warning messages or unexpected automatic braking intervention.

Always verify the surroundings manually while parking the Kia EV6.

  • The vehicle is parked backward

Kia EV6 reverse parking detection warning example

The Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system may detect vehicles moving behind the vehicle while reversing into a parking space.

In certain situations, this may cause unnecessary alerts or temporary brake control activation.

Always check behind the Kia EV6 carefully before and during reversing maneuvers.

WARNING

  • When towing a trailer or another vehicle with the Kia EV6, turn OFF Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist for safety and to prevent false warnings.

  • Kia EV6 Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may not operate correctly if affected by strong electromagnetic interference or nearby electronic equipment.

  • The Kia EV6 system may require approximately 3 seconds after startup or radar initialization before Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist becomes fully operational.

  • Even after restarting the Kia EV6, if the radar sensors remain blocked or malfunctioning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may continue to operate improperly because the previous settings are retained.

This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules.

Operation of this Kia EV6 system is subject to the following two conditions:

  1. This device may not cause harmful interference, and

  2. this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.

TIP

Any changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate this Kia EV6 equipment and related driver assistance systems.
