If the Kia EV6 charging cable cannot be disconnected because of battery discharge or electrical system malfunction, open the hood and carefully pull the emergency release cable slightly as illustrated above. This procedure unlocks the charging connector manually.

WARNING

  • Electromagnetic waves generated during charging may interfere with certain medical electronic devices, including implantable cardiac pacemakers and other medical implants.

If you use medical electronic devices, consult your physician and the device manufacturer before charging the Kia EV6 to verify that vehicle charging will not affect device operation.

  • Before connecting the Kia EV6 charging cable, always inspect the charging connector and plug for water, moisture, dirt, or dust contamination. Connecting a contaminated charging cable may result in electric shock or fire.

  • Do not touch the Kia EV6 charging connector, charging plug, or charging inlet while connecting or disconnecting charging equipment.

  • To reduce the risk of electric shock while charging the Kia EV6:

    • Always use a waterproof charging system approved for electric vehicle charging.

    • Do not touch the charging connector or charging plug with wet hands. Never stand in water, snow, or wet conditions while connecting the charging cable.

    • Exercise extreme caution during thunderstorms or lightning activity.

    • Use additional caution whenever the charging connector or charging plug is wet.

  • If abnormal conditions such as smoke, unusual odor, sparks, or excessive heat are detected while charging the Kia EV6, stop charging immediately.

  • Using uncertified extension cords, cable reels, or non-approved adapters may overload electrical outlets and increase the risk of fire, explosion, or electrical failure.

  • When connecting or disconnecting the Kia EV6 charging cable, always hold the charging connector handle firmly.

Pulling directly on the cable instead of the handle may damage internal wiring, resulting in fire, charging malfunction, or electric shock.

  • Do not leave the Kia EV6 unattended with the charging door left open unnecessarily. An open charging door may indicate that the vehicle is unlocked and could increase the risk of theft or tampering.

CAUTION

  • Before charging the Kia EV6 battery, switch the vehicle OFF completely. After charging begins, ACC or ON mode may be used if operation of other vehicle systems is necessary.

  • While charging the Kia EV6, the cooling fan inside the motor compartment may activate automatically even when the vehicle is turned OFF. Do not touch the cooling fan while charging is in progress.

  • To prevent damage to the Kia EV6 charging connector, avoid dropping the connector or allowing it to strike hard surfaces.

  • Do NOT use extension cords while using the Kia EV6 Level 1 trickle charger, as overheating or electrical damage may occur.

NOTE

While charging the Kia EV6 high-voltage battery, or immediately after charging completes, the air conditioning system and battery cooling system may operate automatically to regulate battery temperature.

During this process, operating sounds from the air conditioner compressor and cooling fan are normal characteristics of the Kia EV6 battery thermal management system.
