Lane Keeping Assist malfunction

Kia EV6 Check Driver Assistance system malfunction warning message
  1. Check Driver Assistance system

If the Kia EV6 Lane Keeping Assist system is not operating correctly, a warning message will appear on the instrument cluster.

The Master Warning light (Kia EV6 Master Warning light indicator) together with the yellow Lane Safety warning light (Kia EV6 Lane Safety warning indicator) may illuminate on the cluster.

If this occurs, have your Kia EV6 inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

The Kia EV6 Lane Keeping Assist system relies on the front view camera, steering control systems, and electronic driver assistance modules for accurate operation.

Lane Keeping Assist disabled

Kia EV6 Driver Assistance system limited camera obscured warning notification
  1. Driver Assistance system limited. Camera obscured.

If snow, rain, dirt, mud, ice, or other foreign material covers the Kia EV6 sensors or the windshield area where the front view camera is located, Lane Keeping Assist detection performance may become limited or temporarily disabled.

Under these conditions, a warning message will appear together with the Master Warning light (Kia EV6 Master Warning system icon) and the yellow Lane Safety warning light (Kia EV6 Lane Safety limited operation warning light) on the instrument cluster.

This is considered normal Kia EV6 system behavior under temporarily limited sensor visibility conditions.

The Kia EV6 Lane Keeping Assist system should resume normal operation after the windshield, camera area, and sensors are cleaned.

Always keep the Kia EV6 front camera area clean and unobstructed for optimal driver assistance system performance.

If Lane Keeping Assist still does not operate correctly after removing snow, rain, dirt, or accessories such as trailers or rear carriers, have the Kia EV6 inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

WARNING

  • Even if no warning message or warning light appears on the Kia EV6 instrument cluster, the Lane Keeping Assist system may still not function properly.

  • Even after restarting the Kia EV6, Lane Keeping Assist may remain limited if the obstruction or malfunction condition continues.

  • Environmental conditions such as heavy rain, snow, fog, strong sunlight, or faded lane markings may temporarily reduce the effectiveness of the Kia EV6 Lane Keeping Assist system.

NOTE

You can check the current Kia EV6 Lane Keeping Assist status through the service message section within the utility information display of the instrument cluster.

Limitations of Lane Keeping Assist

The Kia EV6 Lane Keeping Assist system may not operate correctly, may become temporarily limited, or may function unexpectedly under certain driving, weather, or road conditions, including the following situations:

  • The lane markings or road edges are contaminated, unclear, or difficult for the Kia EV6 front view camera to recognize because:

    • Lane markings or road edges are covered by rain, snow, dirt, mud, oil, water, slush, or road debris.

    • The color or contrast of the lane markings or road edges is difficult to distinguish from the surrounding road surface.

    • Additional markings, road edges, cracks, repair lines, or nearby structures resemble lane markings and may confuse the Kia EV6 camera system.

    • The lane markings or road edges are faded, damaged, partially missing, or poorly maintained.

    • Shadows from surrounding objects such as medians, crash barriers, walls, noise barriers, trees, bushes, parked vehicles, or roadside structures partially cover the lane markings.

  • The number of lanes suddenly increases or decreases, or the lane markings merge, split, or intersect.

  • There are more than two visible lane markings or road boundaries near the Kia EV6.

  • Lane markings or road edges become unusually complex due to road construction areas, temporary lane markings, detours, or traffic control barriers.

  • The roadway contains additional markings such as zigzag lanes, arrows, crosswalks, painted road symbols, or road signs that may interfere with Kia EV6 lane recognition.

  • The lane markings suddenly disappear, such as near intersections, merges, toll plazas, or highway exits.

  • The lane or roadway is unusually wide or unusually narrow.

  • The road edge exists without clearly visible lane markings.

  • There are roadside structures or boundaries such as tollgates, curbs, sidewalks, barriers, guardrails, or medians located close to the driving lane.

  • You are driving the Kia EV6 extremely close behind another vehicle, causing the vehicle ahead to block the camera’s view of the lane markings or road edges.

  • Strong sunlight, glare, reflections, fog, or nighttime conditions reduce front camera visibility.

  • The windshield area in front of the Kia EV6 front view camera is dirty, fogged, frosted, or covered by condensation.

  • The Kia EV6 is driving on rough, uneven, sharply curved, or steep roads that reduce lane detection accuracy.

NOTE

For additional information regarding Kia EV6 front view camera limitations and sensor operating conditions, refer to the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) (Sensor Fusion) section.

WARNING

  • The driver is fully responsible for safely operating and controlling the Kia EV6 at all times.

Do not rely entirely on Lane Keeping Assist or drive carelessly while the system is active.

  • The Kia EV6 Lane Keeping Assist system may stop operating, operate unexpectedly, or function incorrectly depending on road conditions, weather, lane visibility, or surrounding traffic environments.

Always drive carefully and remain attentive to road conditions.

  • Refer to the Kia EV6 Lane Keeping Assist malfunction and limitations information if lane markings are not detected correctly.

  • When towing a trailer or another vehicle with the Kia EV6, turn OFF Lane Keeping Assist for safety reasons.

  • If the Kia EV6 is driven at very high speed, steering assistance may not operate properly.

The driver must always obey local speed limits and maintain full steering control.

  • The Kia EV6 Lane Keeping Assist system may not display warning messages or generate audible alerts if another driver assistance system warning or notification is active at the same time.

  • You may not clearly hear Kia EV6 Lane Keeping Assist warning sounds in noisy surroundings or while the audio system volume is high.

Adjust the audio volume appropriately and always remain attentive while driving.

  • If objects or accessories are attached to the Kia EV6 steering wheel, steering assistance performance may be reduced or may not operate correctly.

  • The Kia EV6 Lane Keeping Assist system may require approximately 15 seconds after vehicle startup or front camera initialization before full operation becomes available.

  • Kia EV6 Lane Keeping Assist will not operate under the following conditions:

    • The turn signal indicators or hazard warning flashers are activated.

    • The Kia EV6 is not properly centered within the lane when Lane Keeping Assist is turned ON or immediately after a lane change.

    • ESC (Electronic Stability Control) or VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) systems are actively operating.

    • The Kia EV6 is cornering sharply or turning quickly on a curved road.

    • The vehicle speed is below approximately 35 mph (55 km/h) or above approximately 130 mph (210 km/h).

    • The Kia EV6 changes lanes suddenly or aggressively.

    • The driver applies sudden braking force.

  • Driving stability may deteriorate if cargo exceeds the maximum allowable weight or is concentrated heavily in one section of the vehicle.

This may reduce Kia EV6 Lane Keeping Assist performance and steering stability.

  • Environmental conditions such as heavy snow, dense rain, fog, strong crosswinds, or faded lane markings may temporarily reduce the effectiveness of the Kia EV6 Lane Keeping Assist system.
