Intelligent Speed Limit Assist malfunction

Kia EV6 Intelligent Speed Limit Assist malfunction warning message on instrument cluster
  1. Check Driver Assistance system

If the Kia EV6 Intelligent Speed Limit Assist system is not operating correctly, a warning message will appear on the instrument cluster for several seconds.

The Master Warning light (Kia EV6 Master Warning light icon) and the Intelligent Speed Limit Assist indicator light (Kia EV6 Intelligent Speed Limit Assist warning indicator icon) may also appear on the cluster.

If this occurs, have the Kia EV6 inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

Because the Kia EV6 Intelligent Speed Limit Assist system depends on the front view camera, road sign recognition, navigation data, and electronic control modules, proper inspection is important when system warnings remain active.

Intelligent Speed Limit Assist disabled

Kia EV6 Driver Assistance system limited camera obscured warning display
  1. Driver Assistance system limited. Camera obscured.

If the front windshield area where the Kia EV6 front view camera is installed becomes covered with snow, rain, ice, mud, fog, dirt, or other foreign material, the detection performance of Intelligent Speed Limit Assist may be reduced.

Under these conditions, the Kia EV6 may temporarily limit or disable Intelligent Speed Limit Assist operation. A warning message, the Master Warning light (Kia EV6 Master Warning light for camera obstruction), and the Intelligent Speed Limit Assist indicator light (Kia EV6 Intelligent Speed Limit Assist limited operation icon) may appear on the cluster.

Intelligent Speed Limit Assist should resume normal operation after the foreign material is removed from the windshield or camera area. Always keep the Kia EV6 front camera area clean and unobstructed.

If Intelligent Speed Limit Assist still does not operate correctly after cleaning the camera area, have the function inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

WARNING

  • Even if no warning message or warning light appears on the Kia EV6 instrument cluster, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist may still not operate properly.

  • If the Kia EV6 is restarted while the sensors are blocked, damaged, or malfunctioning, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist may remain limited until the obstruction or fault condition is corrected.

  • Always follow actual road signs and traffic regulations, even when the Kia EV6 Intelligent Speed Limit Assist system is active.

NOTE

You can check the Kia EV6 Intelligent Speed Limit Assist status in the service message section of the utility information view on the instrument cluster display.

Limitations of Intelligent Speed Limit Assist

The Kia EV6 Intelligent Speed Limit Assist system may operate abnormally, provide incorrect information, or function unexpectedly under certain road, weather, visibility, navigation, or traffic-sign conditions.

  • The road sign is dirty, damaged, faded, bent, or difficult to read.

    • The road sign is difficult to see because of rain, snow, fog, dust, darkness, glare, or poor visibility.

    • The road sign is partially hidden by trees, buildings, shadows, other vehicles, road equipment, or surrounding objects.

  • The road signs do not match the standard format expected by the Kia EV6 Intelligent Speed Limit Assist system.

    • The text, number, shape, color, or graphic on the road sign differs from the system’s expected road sign standard.

    • The road sign is installed between the main road and an exit road, or between roads that divide in different directions.

    • A sign is attached to another vehicle, trailer, construction vehicle, or temporary roadside object.

  • The distance between the Kia EV6 and the road sign is too far for accurate recognition.

  • The road sign is brightly illuminated, reflective, or affected by glare.

  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist incorrectly recognizes numbers, symbols, advertisements, street signs, or other roadside markings as a speed limit.

  • The Kia EV6 detects a speed limit sign from a nearby road, side road, service road, exit lane, or parallel roadway.

  • Multiple road signs are installed close together, making it difficult for the system to determine the correct sign.

  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist incorrectly reads a minimum speed limit sign as a regular speed limit sign.

  • A minimum speed limit sign is located on the road.

  • The brightness changes suddenly, such as when the Kia EV6 enters or exits a tunnel, underpass, parking structure, or shaded area.

  • The headlights are not used, or the headlight brightness is insufficient at night or inside a tunnel.

  • Strong sunlight or glare obstructs the Kia EV6 front view camera’s field of view.

  • Road signs are difficult to recognize because of reflections from sunlight, streetlights, wet pavement, or oncoming vehicle headlights.

  • The navigation or GPS information contains errors, outdated road data, or temporary route inconsistencies.

  • The driver does not follow the route guidance provided by the navigation system.

  • The Kia EV6 is driven on a sharply curved or continuously winding road.

  • The vehicle is driven over speed bumps, uneven surfaces, steep inclines, downhill sections, or roads that tilt left or right.

  • The Kia EV6 shakes heavily because of rough pavement, potholes, gravel roads, or road construction surfaces.

  • The vehicle is driven on a new road that is not yet reflected in the navigation database.

  • The vehicle is driven on a road under construction, through a detour, or through an area with temporary traffic signs.

  • The navigation software updates while the Kia EV6 is being driven.

  • The navigation system restarts while driving.

  • Temporary speed restrictions, school zones, construction zones, or weather-related speed limits are not recognized correctly.

WARNING

  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist is a supplemental Kia EV6 driver assistance function designed to help the driver recognize and follow speed limits. It may not always display the correct speed limit or control the driving speed properly.

  • The driver is always responsible for observing actual road signs, following local traffic laws, and maintaining a safe driving speed.

  • Kia EV6 Intelligent Speed Limit Assist may not operate for approximately 15 seconds after the vehicle is started, or after the front view camera is initialized or restarted.

  • Never rely solely on Intelligent Speed Limit Assist when driving through unfamiliar areas, temporary construction zones, or roads with unclear speed signs.

NOTE

For more information about Kia EV6 front view camera limitations, refer to Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) (Sensor Fusion).
