Kia EV6: Seating and safety restraints / Infant or small child

Contents:

Every state in the U.S. enforces child restraint regulations, and Kia EV6 drivers should always familiarize themselves with the laws applicable in their region before traveling with children. Infant carriers and child safety seats must always be correctly installed in the rear seating area of the Kia EV6 to provide the highest level of passenger protection. For complete installation and usage instructions, refer to the Child Restraint System (CRS) section of your Kia EV6 owner’s manual.

NOTE

Young children and infants receive the best protection during a collision when they are securely fastened in an approved child restraint system positioned in the rear seat of the Kia EV6. Always verify that the child restraint carries a certification label confirming compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 213. The selected child restraint must be suitable for your child’s current height, age, and weight. Carefully review all manufacturer labels and recommendations before installation. Proper use of the CRS system significantly improves occupant safety and helps reduce the risk of serious injury in the Kia EV6 during sudden braking or accidents.

Larger children

Children who have outgrown traditional child restraint systems should continue riding in the rear seats of the Kia EV6 while using the available lap and shoulder seat belts correctly. The lap belt should always fit snugly across the hips and never ride up onto the stomach area. Parents and guardians should regularly check that the belt remains correctly positioned, especially during long trips, since children may unintentionally shift the belt out of alignment while moving in their seats.

The Kia EV6 is engineered with advanced passenger protection systems, but proper seat belt positioning remains essential for maximizing safety. Larger children are safest when seated in the rear seat using an appropriate restraint system. If a child over the age of 13 must occupy the front passenger seat, the seat should be moved as far back as possible and the child must wear the lap/shoulder belt properly at all times. Children aged 13 and younger should always remain securely restrained in the rear seating area. Under no circumstances should a rear-facing child seat be installed in the front passenger seat of the Kia EV6.

If the shoulder belt rests against the child’s neck or face, attempt to reposition the child closer to the center seating area. If the shoulder portion still contacts the face or neck, the child should continue using a properly sized child restraint or booster system for additional safety and comfort.

WARNING

Small Children

Never allow young children to ride inside the Kia EV6 without an appropriate child restraint system that matches their size and age. If the shoulder belt touches the child’s neck or face, the child is too small to safely use the vehicle’s standard seat belt system. In the event of a collision, improper belt positioning may cause severe injuries to the neck, throat, or facial area.

Restraint of pregnant women

Pregnant occupants traveling in the Kia EV6 should always wear lap and shoulder seat belts whenever possible and follow the recommendations provided by their physician. The lap portion of the belt must be positioned as low and secure as possible across the hips and below the abdomen to provide optimal protection during travel.

WARNING

Pregnant Women

Pregnant women should never position the lap belt above or directly over the abdominal area where the fetus is located. During a collision or sudden stop, excessive pressure from an improperly positioned seat belt could result in serious injury to both the mother and unborn child.

Injured person

Whenever an injured person is being transported in the Kia EV6, a seat belt should still be used whenever medically possible. In such situations, consult a physician for specific guidance regarding the safest restraint method for the injured passenger.

One person per belt

Only one person should use each individual seat belt in the Kia EV6 at any time. Sharing a seat belt between two passengers, including children, can dramatically increase the severity of injuries during an accident or emergency maneuver.

Do not lie down

To reduce the likelihood of injury and allow the restraint systems in the Kia EV6 to operate effectively, all occupants should remain seated upright whenever the vehicle is in motion. Both front and rear seatbacks should remain in a proper upright position. A seat belt cannot provide adequate protection if a passenger is lying down or excessively reclining while the vehicle is moving.

Care of seat belts

The seat belt system in the Kia EV6 should never be disassembled, altered, or modified in any way. Owners should also ensure that the seat belts and related hardware are not damaged by seat hinges, doors, heavy objects, or improper handling.

WARNING

Pinched Seat Belt

Always verify that the seat belt webbing and buckle are not trapped or pinched when returning the rear seatbacks of the Kia EV6 to the upright position. Damaged or pinched seat belt components may fail during a sudden stop or collision, reducing occupant protection.

WARNING

Seat belts inside a Kia EV6 that has been parked in direct sunlight for extended periods can become extremely hot. Hot seat belt surfaces may cause burns or discomfort to infants and young children.
