Kia EV6: Charging door operation / DC charge

Contents:

The Kia EV6 supports high-speed DC fast charging at compatible public charging stations. Refer to the operating instructions supplied by the manufacturer of the specific DC charging station being used.

Frequent DC fast charging may gradually reduce long-term high-voltage battery durability and overall battery performance.

To help maximize battery lifespan and preserve charging efficiency, minimize unnecessary use of DC fast charging whenever practical.

The appearance, charging speed, connector style, and operating method of Kia EV6 DC chargers may vary depending on charger manufacturer and charging station configuration.

How to connect DC charger

  1. Firmly press the brake pedal and engage the parking brake before beginning the Kia EV6 DC charging procedure.

  2. Turn all switches OFF, shift the Kia EV6 into P (Park), and switch the vehicle OFF completely.

  3. Open the Kia EV6 charging door.

For more information, refer to the Charging door section.

  4. Inspect the charging connector and charging inlet carefully to ensure that no dust, dirt, moisture, or foreign substances are present.

  5. Hold the DC charging connector by the handle and connect it securely to the Kia EV6 charging inlet. Push the connector completely into place. Improper connection between the charging terminal and connector may create overheating or fire risk.

Refer to the operating instructions provided with each DC charging station for proper charging and disconnection procedures.

If the charging connector is not seated correctly, it may vibrate or droop downward. If this occurs, firmly hold the connector handle and push the connector fully into the Kia EV6 charging inlet.

  6. Confirm that the high-voltage battery charging indicator light (Kia EV6 DC charging indicator light active) on the instrument cluster is illuminated. Charging is not active if the charging indicator light (Kia EV6 DC charging indicator light inactive) remains OFF.

If charging does not begin properly, disconnect and reconnect the Kia EV6 charging cable securely.

To protect the high-voltage battery system, DC charging performance may be temporarily reduced or unavailable during extremely cold weather conditions.

  7. After charging starts, the Kia EV6 instrument cluster displays the estimated remaining charging time for approximately one minute.

The estimated charging time also appears when the driver-side door is opened during charging.

Checking charging status

When charging the Kia EV6 high-voltage battery, you can monitor the current charge level from outside the vehicle using the external charging indicator system.

For additional details, refer to the Charge indicator light for electric vehicle section of the Kia EV6 manual.

How to disconnect DC charger

  1. After DC charging is complete, or when you have finished using the DC charger, remove the charging connector according to the instructions provided by the DC charging station manufacturer.

  2. Close the Kia EV6 charging door completely and confirm that it is securely latched.

CAUTION

  • When charging the Kia EV6 at older DC charging stations or chargers with communication delays, a high-frequency noise may occasionally be heard from outside the vehicle.

  • This sound is a normal operating characteristic. It occurs when the Kia EV6 automatically manages electromagnetic interference during charging and does not affect charging performance or vehicle operation.

NOTE

  • Do not attempt to charge the Kia EV6 when the high-voltage battery is already fully charged. Some DC chargers may display an error message in this condition.

  • If the charging door cannot be opened due to freezing weather, lightly tap the area around the charging door or carefully remove any ice. Do not force the charging door open, as this may damage the mechanism.

  • During DC charging, the Kia EV6 may use the air conditioning system to cool the high-voltage battery. As a result, operating noise from the compressor or cooling fan may be heard.

In hot weather, air conditioning performance inside the cabin may be temporarily reduced because the cooling system is also managing high-voltage battery temperature.

  • Although charging may be possible when the EV button is in the POWER ON or DRIVE READY position, it is safer to begin charging with the EV button in the OFF position and the vehicle shifted to P (Park). After charging begins, electrical features such as the radio may be used by switching the EV button to POWER ON or DRIVE READY.

While the Kia EV6 is charging, the gear cannot be shifted out of P (Park).

  • Charging time may vary depending on high-voltage battery condition, battery temperature, charger specifications, ambient temperature, and overall battery durability.

  • Radio reception quality may temporarily decrease in some areas while the Kia EV6 is charging.

Towing Service Wheel dollies If the Kia EV6 requires towing, the procedure should be performed by an authorized Kia dealer or a professional towing service equipped to handle electric vehicles. Following the correct lifting and transportation procedures is essential to prevent damage to the electric powertrain, suspension, battery system, and drivetrain components.

Kia EV6 2022-2026 Owner's Manual: EV button

Whenever a front door of the Kia EV6 is opened, the illuminated EV button becomes visible for easier access and driver convenience. The Kia EV6 EV button illumination automatically switches OFF approximately 30 seconds after the door is closed. If all Kia EV6 doors are closed and the vehicle is locked using the smart key or transmitter, the illumination turns OFF immediately.
