Kia EV6: Blind-spot Collision-avoidance Assist (BCA) : (if equipped) / Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist operation

Contents:

The Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) system operates through multiple detection, warning, and braking support functions designed to help improve driver awareness and reduce collision risk during lane changes and parking departure situations.

  • Collision Warning

  • Collision-Avoidance Assist (while departing)

Collision warning (while driving)

Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision Warning system operation display on instrument cluster

When the Kia EV6 detects a vehicle approaching from the rear in either adjacent lane, warning indicators will appear on the instrument cluster, outside rear view mirrors, and head-up display (if equipped).

The Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system continuously monitors rear-side traffic conditions to help improve lane-change safety and driver awareness.

A surrounding vehicle is considered detected under the following approximate conditions:

  • Your Kia EV6 speed is above approximately 12 mph (20 km/h).

  • The speed of the vehicle within the Kia EV6 blind spot area is above approximately 6 mph (10 km/h).

Once another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area, the Kia EV6 Collision Warning function will alert the driver if the turn signal is activated while attempting to change lanes.

  • The Kia EV6 Collision Warning system alerts the driver through warning lights on the instrument cluster, outside rear view mirrors, head-up display (if equipped), audible warning sounds, and additional visual notifications.

  • If the Kia EV6 turn signal is switched OFF or the vehicle moves away from the adjacent lane, the collision warning is canceled and the system returns to standard vehicle detection mode.

The Kia EV6 Collision Warning function generally operates under the following conditions:

  • Your Kia EV6 speed is above approximately 25 mph (40 km/h).

  • The speed of the vehicle in the blind spot area is above approximately 6 mph (10 km/h).

The Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system is especially helpful during highway driving, heavy traffic conditions, and lane-change maneuvers where visibility may be limited.

WARNING

  • The detection range of the Kia EV6 front and rear corner radar sensors is based on standard road widths.

On narrow roads, the Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system may detect vehicles located two lanes away and generate unnecessary warnings.

Conversely, on wide roads, the Kia EV6 system may not properly detect a vehicle traveling in the adjacent lane.

  • When the hazard warning flashers are activated, the Kia EV6 collision warning function associated with turn signal operation may not function.

  • Heavy rain, snow, fog, dirt buildup, or strong sunlight may temporarily reduce Kia EV6 radar detection performance.

NOTE

  • On left-hand drive Kia EV6 vehicles, collision warnings may occur while turning left.

On right-hand drive Kia EV6 vehicles, collision warnings may occur while turning right.

Always maintain a safe distance from surrounding vehicles during lane changes.

  • The displayed graphics, warning images, and colors may appear differently depending on the Kia EV6 instrument cluster specifications, software version, or selected display theme.

  • The Kia EV6 head-up display warning notifications are available only on equipped models.

Collision-Avoidance Assist (while departing)

  1. Emergency Braking

If the Kia EV6 determines that a collision risk exists while departing from a parking space, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist may provide emergency braking support.

The warning light on the outside rear view mirror and head-up display (if equipped), audible warning sounds, and steering wheel vibration alerts will notify the driver of a possible collision risk.

The Kia EV6 system can additionally assist with automatic braking control to help avoid a collision with an approaching vehicle detected within the blind spot area.

Collision-Avoidance Assist (while departing) may activate under the following approximate conditions:

  • Your Kia EV6 speed is below approximately 2 mph (3 km/h).

  • The speed of the approaching vehicle within the blind spot area is above approximately 3 mph (5 km/h).

The Kia EV6 parking departure assistance feature is particularly useful in crowded parking lots, tight urban parking spaces, and areas with limited rear-side visibility.

Kia EV6 Drive carefully emergency braking warning message on instrument cluster
  1. Drive carefully

If the Kia EV6 comes to a stop due to emergency braking intervention, a warning message will appear on the instrument cluster display.

For safety reasons, the driver should immediately depress the brake pedal and carefully check all surrounding traffic conditions.

  • Kia EV6 brake control assistance ends approximately 2 seconds after Emergency Braking stops the vehicle.

WARNING

  • For your safety, adjust Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist settings only after parking the vehicle in a safe location.

  • If another Kia EV6 driver assistance system warning message or audible alert is currently active, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist warning notifications may not be displayed or heard.

  • You may not hear Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist warning sounds clearly in noisy environments or while loud audio is playing.

Always maintain a moderate audio volume level and remain attentive while driving.

  • The Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system may not operate if the driver manually applies the brake pedal to avoid a collision.

  • While Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist is actively operating, braking control may automatically cancel if the accelerator pedal is pressed excessively or if the steering wheel is turned sharply.

  • During Kia EV6 emergency braking intervention, the vehicle may stop suddenly.

Sudden braking may injure passengers or cause unsecured cargo to shift unexpectedly.

Always fasten seat belts and properly secure loose objects inside the vehicle.

  • Even if a malfunction occurs with the Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system, the vehicle’s standard braking performance will continue to operate normally.

  • The Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist system may not operate in every driving situation and may not always prevent collisions.

  • Depending on road conditions, traffic flow, weather, and surrounding environments, the Kia EV6 system may provide warnings late or may not provide warnings at all.

  • The driver remains fully responsible for safe operation of the Kia EV6 at all times.

Do not rely solely on Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist. Always directly check surrounding traffic conditions and drive carefully.

  • Never rely exclusively on Kia EV6 Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist to avoid collisions involving pedestrians, animals, motorcycles, bicycles, or roadside objects.

Failure to operate the vehicle safely may result in serious injury or death.

WARNING

Kia EV6 braking control assistance may not operate properly depending on the status of the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system.

In certain situations, only warning notifications may be provided, including:

  • When the ESC warning light is illuminated.

  • When ESC is actively engaged through another vehicle stability function.

Always maintain safe vehicle control regardless of driver assistance system operation.
