The AUTO HOLD feature in the Kia EV6 automatically maintains the vehicle at a complete stop without requiring the driver to continue pressing the brake pedal after the vehicle has fully stopped.
Depress the brake pedal, start the Kia EV6, and then press the AUTO HOLD button. The white AUTO HOLD indicator light will illuminate, confirming that the system is in standby mode.
|
Once the Kia EV6 reaches a complete stop while the brake pedal is depressed, the AUTO HOLD indicator changes from white to green, confirming that the function is actively holding the vehicle stationary.
The vehicle will remain stopped even after the brake pedal is released.
|
If the EPB is activated, the AUTO HOLD function will automatically disengage.
If the accelerator pedal is pressed while the shifter dial is in D (Drive) or R (Reverse), the AUTO HOLD feature will automatically release and the Kia EV6 will begin moving. The indicator changes from green back to white, indicating standby mode, and the EPB will release automatically.
WARNING
Before driving away while AUTO HOLD is active, always check the area surrounding the Kia EV6 carefully for pedestrians, vehicles, or obstacles.
For smooth and controlled acceleration, depress the accelerator pedal gradually.
|
To deactivate the AUTO HOLD function, press the AUTO HOLD switch. The indicator light will turn off.
To cancel the AUTO HOLD feature while the Kia EV6 remains stationary, press the AUTO HOLD switch while simultaneously depressing the brake pedal.
NOTE
The following conditions prevent the AUTO HOLD function from engaging properly. In these situations, the AUTO HOLD indicator remains white and the system stays in standby mode:
The shifter dial is positioned in P (Park).
The EPB is currently applied.
For enhanced safety, the Kia EV6 automatically switches from AUTO HOLD to EPB operation under the following conditions:
The vehicle remains stopped for more than 10 minutes.
The vehicle is parked on a steep incline.
The vehicle moves slightly for several seconds.
Under these conditions, the brake warning light illuminates, the AUTO HOLD indicator changes from green to white, an audible warning sounds, and a message appears indicating that the EPB has been automatically engaged. Before driving again, press the brake pedal, inspect the area around the Kia EV6, and manually release the parking brake using the EPB switch.
If the AUTO HOLD indicator illuminates yellow, the function is not operating properly. Have the Kia EV6 inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
The AUTO HOLD operating status is retained when restarting the Kia EV6 if the AUTO HOLD button remains pressed.
WARNING
To minimize the risk of accidents, never activate the AUTO HOLD system while reversing, parking, or driving downhill.
If a malfunction occurs with the driver’s door, hood, or liftgate detection system, the AUTO HOLD feature may not function correctly.
Have the Kia EV6 inspected by an authorized Kia dealer if these conditions occur.
NOTE
Clicking noises or electric brake motor sounds may be heard while operating or releasing the EPB. These sounds are normal operating characteristics and confirm proper Electronic Parking Brake operation in the Kia EV6.
The AUTO HOLD system in the Kia EV6 can display warning messages accompanied by audible alerts under specific operating conditions to help improve driver awareness and vehicle safety.
When the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) is automatically activated from the AUTO HOLD function, a warning sound will be emitted and a notification message will appear on the instrument cluster.
|
|
If the transition from AUTO HOLD to EPB does not function correctly in the Kia EV6, an audible warning will sound and a system message will appear.
|
|
NOTE
When this warning message appears, the AUTO HOLD and EPB systems in the Kia EV6 may not function properly. For safety reasons, immediately depress the brake pedal to maintain full vehicle control.
If the brake pedal is not pressed while canceling the AUTO HOLD function using the AUTO HOLD switch, a warning tone will sound and an additional message will appear on the instrument cluster.

WARNING
Parking Brake Use
Never allow passengers or individuals unfamiliar with the Kia EV6 to operate the Electronic Parking Brake switch. Accidental release of the parking brake could result in serious injury or fatal accidents.
Always fully engage the parking brake when the Kia EV6 is parked in order to prevent unintended vehicle movement that could injure pedestrians, occupants, or nearby drivers.
Check the brake warning light by switching the EV button ON without starting the vehicle. This warning light appears whenever the parking brake is applied while the Kia EV6 is in the DRIVE READY or POWER ON mode.
Before driving the Kia EV6, always confirm that the parking brake has been completely released and that the brake warning light is no longer illuminated.
If the brake warning light remains on after releasing the parking brake while the Kia EV6 is running, there may be a malfunction within the braking system that requires immediate attention.
If possible, stop driving the Kia EV6 immediately and arrange for inspection or repair. If stopping immediately is not possible, drive with extreme caution and proceed only to the nearest safe location or authorized repair facility.
