Kia EV6: Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA): (if equipped) / Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist malfunction and limitations

Contents:

The Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist system in the Kia EV6 relies on camera and ultrasonic sensor data to detect hazards. Environmental conditions, sensor contamination, poor visibility, extreme weather, and physical damage to system components may reduce detection performance or temporarily limit operation. Drivers should always visually inspect the area around the vehicle and never rely solely on PCA when reversing.

Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist malfunction

Kia EV6 instrument cluster warning message for Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist malfunction

A: Check Driver Assistance system.

If a fault occurs in Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist, its related sensors, or any connected driver-assistance components, the Kia EV6 displays a warning message on the instrument cluster to alert the driver. This message indicates that the system may not be able to provide normal collision warning or braking support while reversing.

If the warning remains visible, or if Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist does not operate as expected after the vehicle has been restarted, the Kia EV6 should be inspected by an authorized Kia dealer. Continuing to rely on the system when a malfunction message is active may reduce parking safety, especially in tight spaces, driveways, garages, or areas where pedestrians and low obstacles may be present.

Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist disabled

Kia EV6 Driver Assistance system limited warning caused by obscured rear camera

A: Driver Assistance system limited. Camera obscured.

The wide rear view camera and rear ultrasonic sensors in the Kia EV6 are used to detect pedestrians, vehicles, walls, posts, and other objects behind the vehicle. Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist may become temporarily limited or unavailable if snow, rain, mud, ice, road grime, water droplets, or other foreign substances cover the camera lens or ultrasonic sensor surfaces.

The affected detection area, such as the wide rear view camera or rear ultrasonic sensor, can be checked through the service message in the utility information view of the instrument cluster display. In many cases, Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist returns to normal operation after the contaminated area has been carefully cleaned. Keep the rear camera and sensors clean at all times, especially during winter driving, heavy rain, after washing the vehicle, or after driving on dirty roads.

If the Kia EV6 still displays the warning after the camera and sensors have been cleaned, or if the system continues to behave abnormally, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer. The system depends on clear sensor visibility and proper calibration, so physical damage, incorrect repairs, or misaligned components may also affect its performance.

NOTE

You can review the current Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist status in the service message section of the utility information view on the Kia EV6 instrument cluster display. This information can help identify whether the system is limited because of contamination, blocked sensor visibility, or a possible malfunction.
