Kia Seltos: Fuel filler door / Closing the fuel filler door
-
To install the fuel cap on the Kia Seltos, turn it clockwise until it clicks one time. This click indicates that the cap is securely tightened and properly sealed.
-
Close the fuel filler door and press it lightly to make sure it is fully closed and flush with the body of the vehicle.
WARNING
Refueling
Always remove the fuel cap carefully and slowly. If the cap is venting fuel or you hear a hissing sound, wait until the sound stops before removing the cap completely.
If pressurized fuel sprays out, it may contact your clothes or skin and create a serious risk of fire or burns.
NOTICE
When refueling the Kia Seltos on uneven ground, the fuel gauge may not immediately point to the F position. This is not a malfunction. After the vehicle is moved to level ground, the fuel gauge should move to the full position.
NOTICE
Tighten the fuel cap until it clicks one time. If the cap is not tightened correctly, the engine warning indicator light may appear on the Kia Seltos instrument cluster.
Always check that the fuel cap is installed securely to help prevent fuel spillage in the event of an accident.
WARNING
Fire/explosion risk
Read and follow all safety warnings posted at the gas station before refueling the Kia Seltos. Failure to follow these warnings may result in severe personal injury, serious burns, or death due to fire or explosion.
WARNING
Static electricity
-
Before touching the fuel nozzle, discharge potentially dangerous static electricity by touching a metal part of the Kia Seltos at a safe distance from the fuel filler neck, nozzle, or any other fuel source.
-
Do not reenter the vehicle once refueling has started. Touching, rubbing, or sliding against materials such as polyester, satin, nylon, or other fabrics may generate static electricity. A static electricity discharge can ignite fuel vapors and cause rapid burning. If you must reenter the Kia Seltos, discharge static electricity again by touching a metal part of the vehicle away from the fuel filler neck, nozzle, or gasoline source.
WARNING
Portable fuel container
When using an approved portable fuel container, always place the container on the ground before refueling. Static electricity from the container can ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. Once refueling begins, maintain contact with the container until filling is complete. Use only approved portable plastic fuel containers designed for carrying and storing gasoline.
WARNING
Mobile phone fires
Do not use mobile phones while refueling the Kia Seltos. Electrical current or electronic interference from a mobile phone may potentially ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire.
WARNING
Refueling & vehicle fires
Always shut the engine off before refueling. Sparks produced by electrical components in the engine compartment may ignite fuel vapors and cause a fire. After refueling is complete, make sure the fuel filler cap and fuel filler door are securely closed before starting the Kia Seltos engine.
WARNING
Smoking
DO NOT use matches or a lighter, and DO NOT smoke or leave a lit cigarette inside or near your Kia Seltos while at a gas station, especially during refueling. Automotive fuel is highly flammable, and fuel vapors can ignite quickly if exposed to flame, sparks, or hot materials.
Always refuel your Kia Seltos according to the recommended fuel requirements for the vehicle.
If the fuel filler cap needs to be replaced, use only a genuine Kia cap or an equivalent cap specified for your Kia Seltos. An incorrect fuel filler cap may cause a serious malfunction in the fuel system or emission control system.
CAUTION
Exterior paint
Do not spill fuel on the exterior surfaces of the Kia Seltos. Fuel spilled on painted surfaces can damage the finish, so wipe it away immediately with a soft cloth if contact occurs.
WARNING
-
Do not allow anyone who has not discharged static electricity from their body to come close to an open fuel tank.
-
Do not inhale vaporized fuel, as fuel vapors can be harmful to your health.
WARNING
Risk of injury from fuel
Fuel is poisonous and harmful to your health. Handle fuel carefully whenever refueling the Kia Seltos or working near the fuel filler area.
-
Fuel contains substances that may be harmful if inhaled.
-
Do not swallow fuel or allow it to contact your skin, eyes, or clothing.
-
Do not inhale fuel vapors.
-
Keep children away from fuel and from the refueling area.
If you or another person comes into contact with fuel, follow these precautions immediately:
-
Rinse fuel from the skin immediately using soap and water.
-
If fuel gets into the eyes, rinse them thoroughly with clean water and seek medical attention immediately.
-
If fuel is swallowed, seek medical attention immediately. Do not induce vomiting.
-
Change clothing immediately if it has come into contact with fuel.
NOTICE
Damage caused by the wrong fuel
Fuel that does not meet the required quality standards can increase wear and may damage the engine, fuel system, and exhaust system of the Kia Seltos. Always use only the recommended fuel for your vehicle.
NOTICE
Damage caused by the wrong fuel
Vehicles with a gasoline engine:
Even a small amount of incorrect fuel can damage the fuel system, engine, and emission control system of the Kia Seltos.
NOTICE
Do not use diesel fuel to refuel a Kia Seltos equipped with a gasoline engine.
NOTICE
If you accidentally refuel the Kia Seltos with the wrong fuel, do not switch on the ignition. Switching on the ignition may allow the incorrect fuel to enter the fuel system.
Even small amounts of the wrong fuel can damage the fuel system and engine. Have the system inspected and serviced by an authorized Kia dealer.
NOTICE
Do not overfill the fuel tank
Do not overfill the fuel tank of the Kia Seltos. Overfilling may cause fuel to spill, harm the environment, damage vehicle components, or affect normal fuel system operation.
