Kia Seltos: Features of your vehicle / Steering wheel

Contents:

The steering wheel of the Kia Seltos is equipped with an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system. This system assists steering by using an electric motor, helping the driver control the vehicle more comfortably in different driving conditions.

Electric Power Steering (EPS)

The Electric Power Steering system uses a motor to assist the driver when steering the Kia Seltos.

If the engine is off or if the power steering system becomes inoperative, the vehicle can still be steered, but much greater steering effort will be required.

The EPS system is controlled by the power steering control unit, which monitors steering wheel torque and vehicle speed to determine the proper level of steering assistance.

Steering effort becomes heavier as vehicle speed increases and lighter as vehicle speed decreases. This helps provide stable control at higher speeds and easier maneuvering when parking or driving slowly.

If you notice any unusual change in steering effort during normal Kia Seltos operation, have the power steering system checked by an authorized Kia dealer.

NOTICE

The following symptoms may occur during normal vehicle operation:

  • The EPS warning light may not illuminate if the system is operating normally.

  • Steering effort may feel higher immediately after turning the ignition switch or ENGINE START/STOP button on. This occurs while the EPS system performs diagnostics. After the diagnostic check is complete, steering effort will return to normal.

  • A clicking noise may be heard from the EPS relay after the ignition switch or ENGINE START/STOP button is turned to the ON or LOCK/OFF position.

  • A motor sound may be heard when the Kia Seltos is stopped or moving at low speed.

  • Steering effort may increase if the steering wheel is rotated continuously while the vehicle is not moving. After a few minutes, the steering effort should return to normal.

  • If the charging system warning light turns on due to low voltage, such as an alternator or battery malfunction, the steering wheel may require increased effort.

  • When operating the steering wheel in low temperatures, an unusual noise may occur. If the noise disappears as the temperature rises, this is considered normal.

  • After jump starting the Kia Seltos due to a discharged battery, the steering wheel may not function normally at first. This is usually temporary and related to low battery voltage. Once the battery charge becomes stable, steering operation should return to normal. Move the steering wheel carefully to confirm proper operation before driving.

  • Steering effort may suddenly increase if the EPS control unit detects a malfunction and stops EPS operation to help prevent a serious accident.

If the Electric Power Steering system does not operate normally, the warning light will illuminate on the instrument cluster. The power steering assistance may stop working, and steering effort can increase significantly. Have your Kia Seltos inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

Tilt & telescopic steering wheel

The Kia Seltos tilt and telescopic steering wheel allows the driver to adjust the steering wheel position before driving. This helps create a more comfortable driving posture and improves access to the controls around the instrument panel.

You can also raise the steering wheel to give your legs more room when entering or exiting the Kia Seltos.

The steering wheel should be positioned so that it feels comfortable to hold and allows you to clearly see the instrument panel warning lights, gauges, and driving information.

WARNING

Steering wheel adjustment

  • Never adjust the angle or height of the steering wheel while driving. Doing so may cause loss of steering control and increase the risk of an accident.

  • When adjusting the steering wheel angle and height, do not push or pull it with excessive force, as the locking fixture may be damaged.

Heated steering wheel

When the ignition switch is in the ON position or the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ON position, pressing the heated steering wheel button warms the steering wheel of the Kia Seltos. The indicator light on the button will appear while the system is operating.

NOTICE

The heated steering wheel will turn off automatically approximately 30 minutes after it is turned on. This helps prevent unnecessary power use and overheating.

Kia Seltos heated steering wheel care and usage caution

CAUTION

  • Do not install any type of steering wheel grip cover, as it may interfere with the heated steering wheel system and reduce heating performance.

  • When cleaning the heated steering wheel, do not use organic solvents such as paint thinner, benzene, alcohol, or gasoline. These chemicals may damage the steering wheel surface.

  • If the steering wheel surface is damaged by a sharp object, the internal heated steering wheel components may also be damaged.

Kia Seltos heated steering wheel burn warning

WARNING

If the steering wheel becomes too warm, turn the system off. The heated steering wheel in the Kia Seltos may cause burns even at relatively low temperatures, especially if used continuously for a long time.

Horn

To sound the horn, press the area marked with the horn symbol on the Kia Seltos steering wheel, as shown in the illustration.

Kia Seltos SP2 (2021-2026) Owner's Manual: All Wheel Drive (AWD) system

The All Wheel Drive (AWD) system in the Kia Seltos distributes engine power to the front and rear wheels to help provide improved traction when driving conditions require extra grip. AWD can be useful when additional traction is needed, such as on slippery, muddy, wet, or snow-covered roads. It helps the Kia Seltos maintain more stable driving performance when road surfaces become difficult.

Kia Seltos SP2 (2021-2026) Owner's Manual: Emergency towing

If a professional towing service is not available during an emergency, your Kia Seltos may be temporarily towed using a suitable cable, chain, or towing strap attached only to the emergency towing hook located under the front or rear of the vehicle. Front Rear If towing is necessary, it is always best to have the Kia Seltos handled by an authorized Kia dealer or a professional commercial tow-truck service.
