Air bag warning light

This indicator light serves as a diagnostic monitor for the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). It functions as follows:

  • Upon setting the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position, the light will illuminate for approximately 3 to 6 seconds as a bulb check before automatically turning off.

  • If the light remains illuminated, flashes, or turns on while driving, it indicates a detected malfunction within the SRS. In this event, please have your Kia K4 inspected immediately by an authorized Kia dealer to ensure the airbag system will perform correctly in an emergency.

Seat belt warning light

Parking brake and brake fluid warning light

This multi-function indicator light activates under the following conditions:

  • When you press the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position:

    • The light will illuminate for approximately 3 seconds as a self-test.

    • The light will remain continuously lit if the parking brake is currently engaged.

  • Any time the parking brake is applied while the ignition is ON.

  • When the brake fluid level in the reservoir falls below the minimum required amount:

    • If this light remains illuminated after you have fully released the parking brake, it is a primary indicator that your Kia K4 has low brake fluid levels.

If the brake fluid level warning illuminates while driving, please adhere to these safety steps:

  1. Remain calm, drive cautiously, and proceed to the nearest safe location to pull over and stop your Kia K4.

  2. With the engine turned off, check the brake fluid reservoir level immediately and add the manufacturer-approved fluid if necessary (refer to the "Brake fluid" section for specifications).     NOTE

    Regarding the MIL:

    • Continuing to drive your Kia K4 while the MIL is illuminated may cause permanent damage to your emission control systems, which can negatively impact overall drivability and fuel economy.

    • If the enhanced engine protection system activates due to low engine oil levels, the engine’s power output will be restricted, and your maximum available vehicle speed will be reduced. If these conditions persist, the MIL will illuminate to alert the driver.

    TIP

    If oil pressure drops due to critically low oil levels or other mechanical issues, the engine oil pressure warning light will activate. Simultaneously, the engine protection system will engage to limit power output. If you continue to drive the Kia K4 despite these warnings, the MIL will illuminate, signaling a need for immediate intervention.

    NOTE

    If the MIL appears, there is a significant risk of damaging the catalytic converter, which could lead to a sudden loss of engine power and a reduction in vehicle speed. In such instances, you must have your Kia K4 inspected by an authorized Kia dealer without delay.

    Engine oil pressure warning light

    This critical warning light monitors the lubrication system and appears under the following conditions:

    • It illuminates when the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ON position and remains lit until the engine is successfully started.

    • It illuminates whenever the engine oil pressure falls below the safe operating range.

    If the engine oil pressure warning light activates, follow these emergency steps:

    • Drive your Kia K4 carefully to the nearest safe area and stop the engine immediately.

    • Once the engine is turned off and has cooled, check the engine oil level (refer to "Engine oil and filter" in your manual). If the level is low, add the recommended grade of engine oil as required.

    TIP

    • The engine oil pressure warning light is the primary alert that your engine's internal components are not receiving adequate lubrication. Immediate action is required to prevent costly mechanical repairs to your Kia K4.

    • Regularly checking your oil level ensures that the oil pressure system remains stable and that your engine maintains peak performance throughout its service life.

  • In this event, the enhanced engine protection system of your Kia K4 will activate to limit engine power. Once the proper engine oil pressure is restored, the warning light will deactivate, and the protection system will reset automatically after you restart the Kia K4 engine.

    • NOTE

    Engine Overheating Prevention:

    Do not continue driving your Kia K4 if the engine is overheating, as this will lead to catastrophic engine failure and costly mechanical repairs.

    NOTE

    Preventing Severe Engine Damage:

    If the engine oil pressure warning light illuminates and remains on while the engine is running, you must stop the vehicle immediately. Failure to shut off the engine promptly may result in permanent, non-repairable engine damage.

    Exhaust system (GPF) warning light (Gasoline Engine)

    This indicator light provides status updates for the Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF) system:

    • The light activates when the system detects a potential issue or maintenance requirement for the GPF.

    • In many cases, the GPF system can self-regenerate while you drive. To assist this process, perform a "regeneration drive":

      • Drive the Kia K4 for a duration of at least 30 minutes at a consistent speed of 50 mph (80 km/h) or higher.

      • Ensure that driving conditions remain safe, the transmission is in 3rd gear or higher, and the engine speed is maintained between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm.

    NOTE

    Gasoline Engine with GPF:

    If you ignore a blinking GPF warning light for an extended period, the particulate filter may suffer permanent damage, and you will notice a significant decrease in fuel efficiency for your Kia K4.

    Low fuel level warning light

    This warning light illuminates when your Kia K4 fuel tank reaches a critically low level. Please refuel at the nearest gas station as soon as possible to avoid stranding.

    NOTE

    Low Fuel Level Warning:

    Driving your Kia K4 with the low fuel warning light illuminated or with the needle approaching the "E" mark is discouraged. Running out of fuel can cause the engine to misfire, which may lead to severe damage to the catalytic converter.

    Master warning light

    The Master Warning Light in your Kia K4 serves as a consolidated alert for various vehicle systems, activating in the following situations:

    • LED headlamp system malfunction

    • High Beam Assist (HBA) system malfunction

    Low tire pressure warning light

    This warning light is designed to alert you to system faults: it will remain illuminated after blinking for approximately 60 seconds, or it will repeat a blinking pattern (on and off) at intervals of approximately 3 seconds when the TPMS detects a technical malfunction. In this event, you should have your Kia K4 inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible.

    WARNING

    Low tire pressure

    • Driving with significantly low tire pressure makes your Kia K4 unstable, which can contribute to a loss of steering control and significantly increased braking distances. Such conditions may cause an accident resulting in severe injury, fatality, or significant property damage.

    • Continued operation of the Kia K4 on under-inflated tires will lead to excessive heat buildup and potential catastrophic tire failure.

    • The TPMS installed in the Kia K4 is a monitoring tool and cannot provide alerts for severe, sudden tire damage (such as a blowout) caused by external impact or road debris.

    LED headlamp warning light
