The following section explains the proper fastening and operation of the Kia EV6 front passenger and rear seat belt systems.
The Kia EV6 combination locking retractor seat belt system is designed to improve occupant safety while also supporting proper child restraint system installation.
Combination locking retractor seat belts are installed in the Kia EV6 rear seating positions to assist with secure child restraint system installation.
Although the Kia EV6 front passenger seat is also equipped with a combination locking retractor, children should always ride in the rear seats whenever possible.
NEVER install a rear-facing infant restraint system in the Kia EV6 front passenger seat.
This Kia EV6 seat belt system combines both Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) and Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) functions.
Pull the Kia EV6 seat belt from the retractor and insert the metal latch tab into the buckle.
An audible “click sound confirms that the seat belt has locked securely into the buckle.
When not being used for child restraint installation, the Kia EV6 seat belt functions in the same manner as the driver’s emergency locking retractor system.
The Kia EV6 seat belt automatically adjusts to the proper length after the lap belt portion has been manually positioned snugly across the hips.
When the Kia EV6 seat belt is fully extended from the retractor to secure a child restraint system, the locking mechanism changes to Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) mode.
In this mode, the Kia EV6 seat belt retracts but cannot extend again until fully released and reset.
Refer to the Kia EV6 Child Restraint System (CRS) section for detailed child seat installation instructions.
CAUTION
Do NOT fold the left portion of the Kia EV6 rear seatback while the rear center seat belt remains buckled.
ALWAYS unbuckle the Kia EV6 rear center seat belt before folding the left rear seatback.
If the rear center seat belt remains fastened while the left seatback is folded, distortion or damage to the seatback trim, seat belt garnish, or locking mechanism may occur.
This may also cause the Kia EV6 rear seatback to remain stuck in the folded position.
NOTE
Although the Kia EV6 combination locking retractor provides the same level of protection in both emergency locking and automatic locking modes, seated passengers should normally use the emergency locking mode for greater comfort and convenience.
The automatic locking feature is primarily intended for secure child restraint installation.
To return the Kia EV6 seat belt system from automatic locking mode to emergency locking operation, allow the unbuckled seat belt to retract fully into the retractor.
The Kia EV6 seat belt latch must always be inserted into the correct buckle corresponding to the seating position.

WARNING
Before fastening the Kia EV6 rear seat belts, always verify that the latch plate matches the correct seat belt buckle.
Forcefully connecting the left or right rear seat belt into the center buckle may create an improper fastening condition that cannot provide proper occupant protection during an accident.
When using the Kia EV6 rear center seat belt, always use the buckle clearly marked with the "CENTER" label.

The Kia EV6 seat belt is released by pressing the release button (1) located on the seat belt buckle.
After release, the Kia EV6 seat belt should automatically retract smoothly back into the retractor housing.
If the seat belt does not retract normally, inspect the Kia EV6 seat belt webbing to ensure it is not twisted or obstructed, then try again.
The Kia EV6 seat belt retractor system is designed to maintain proper belt storage, improve occupant convenience, and help prevent belt twisting during everyday vehicle use.
